You are pretty good at making these video's! I am hoping to get my build into the 2012 autocross, hopefully.... Just look for the fb rx7 with a 350 if I manage to get it done in time :). And hopefully you keep making these video's because they are pretty awesome. I would bring my Chevelle to the 2012 but lap belts are not acceptable.
Nice work! Im looking at getting the 535 legs, though I have a cheap CF tripod that always lifts off the ground when I pan - this one seems to not have that problem when following the cars - can u let me know if the legs are stable?
@arthurwoo The tripod legs are absolutely fantastic! If I were to buy a new set of legs I would spend the extra $100 and get the 536 legs though.
The legs are fairly light so with that said I occasionally did lift one of the legs off the ground by accident when panning 360 degrees to follow the cars.
I've used $100 tripods in the past and this is way better in every way...except price.
I recently attended an SCCA autox event in SoCal with our CPM (FSAE) car and brought along my GH2. However, my footage looked no where as good as yours. I plan on making a future video though.
Here's a vid I made several months ago with my GH2 of my school building our car and competing at FSAE West: watch?v=NEkZIKGHY_0
It was AWESOME to drive. I drove the endurance event and had my friend film that section (the part where I pass the orange and black car up).
I saw your first vid, the 2009 autox. In fact, that was the one that was the one that made me subscribe to your channel. Once question, were you using manual or autofocus on the GH2? If auto, how did you get the focus to not search at least once? Even when I record with AFC the focus still searches sometimes.
I used sAF and cAF...you may notice that the video isn't always perfectly sharp...some of it is from the heat distortion and some is because I was focused on a different part of the track than where the car was. If I noticed the camera searching for focus I just didn't use that part of the clip, which is one reason why some people were left out.
I haven't used the newest version of Final Cut...do you like it?
Ahh I see. Ok I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong or didn't have the wrong settings. I guess that's just the nature of having a contrast detect AF system.
I actually like FCPX, but that's probably because I upgraded to it from iMovie, so I was mostly used to the layout. I've tried FCP7 and Premier on friends' computers but really found the layouts challenging to understand. Also, FCP7 kept crashing every time I tried to log and transfer AVCHD files.
@jshaw6600 Even Phase Detect will hunt for focus sometimes, when I compared a Canon 300mm f/4.0L on a 5D MKII against the Panasonic 100-300mm f/4.0 -f5.6 on a GH2 the Panasonic almost always won on focus speed, but didnt seem to instantly lock onto focus as much as the Canon.
I've heard photographers really seem to like Final Cut X vs Final Cut 7, where people who have been editing for a long time seem to like the older Final Cut better. At work I mostly edit (because editing almost always takes longer than shooting) and we use Final Cut 7. At home I use Premiere CS3 and both programs seem very similar....If you want something that really seems strange try Avid...I can probably still use it, but it is way different. FCP7 will sometimes crash with AVCHD.

@jshaw6600 That's pretty cool! I bet that's fun to drive!
Click on my user name and you can see how my first autocross video compared to this one.
How do you like shooting with the GH2?
Also send a link when you get your edit done =)
