actually i think it died at civ4, it takes no skill whatsoever and the AI are always so easy even when i finished tutorial. this one is WICKED cause you actually need skill and you need to pay enemies money to not piss them off, sure it has less features, but i still find it way more fun... i also am playing in solo (no barbarians or enemies) polluting the world with IBCMS and factorys :O i want to turn all the world into mountains and deserts!!!
Automate workers in Civ III is absolutely fine as in Civ III it's simple enough..there's no waterwells, windmills, cottages, workshops all this bullshit Civ IV added so you don't have to worry about it. It's either irrigate or mine, simple as that. I always start automating after I get about 10 workers. In this one you can worker spam pretty effectively with little consequence.
I like Civ III the best...the music, still simple yet complex enough.
When you hit the industrial age you want coordinated workers plotting rail line to connect all your cites and borders in a hurry. In essence, this allows your military to safely mobilize into a single strike force as well as provide a common defense network as it takes no movement cost riding the train. The first civ to build this infastructure is like Germany making the blitzkrieg against the others still duking it out in trench warfare. Auto work at this stage is a serious disadvantage.
@dominastar1 Dude you just wanna spam workers and spam railroads EVERYWHERE..it's not Civ IV and V where railroads are gimped and useless, they boost food & production by 50%!
It's a pain, but manually directing the labor pays off in the long run. The automated workers are busy, but not very smart. Here are a few examples: 1. Sometimes a city will stall on population growth in the early ages when food is scarce. The autoworkers do not know when digging a mine instead of building irrigation is detrimental. 2. (and this is a biggie) Auto workers are horrible at planning roads and rail lines. I will expound further on this in a moment.
@musclemat A mine on gold will increase the sheild and gold income from that tile when its being worked by a citizen from the nearest city.
To gain the happiness benefit from a luxery, or the ability to build swords men from iron, then yes, you need a road.
Roads help muchly regardless, the ability to move your army quickly will save many cities from suprise attacks, or save your army from getting trapped in a wasted defence etc.
Oh god .... I can't belive what crap graphics this game has ... and it remembers me of playing it hundreds of hours 2 or 3 years ago. Im going to buy it again to have it on laptop. But It'll be strange to play this after i played Civ IV and Civ V .... I can't wait though :)
You mentioned in the video that the hut can be either a warrior, barbarian encampment or cash. But, that isn't all (unless this expansion doesn't have it): It can also give you a settler that would like to join you'r civilization, or even an advanced tribe that joins as a new city to your nation.
just an idea. maybe edit your video and take out all the waiting parts where your computer is loading?? then you can have more actual content that i thirst for rather than 50% waiting :(
I used to love this game. But I liked Civ 2 gold edition better. Civ 3 got boring midway through, and there werent as many techonologies because they focused on "3D graphics" instead.
sometimes the automated worker will not build conecting roads to other citys so when i build a new one i use my workers to build one.other than that i need automate,a lot!
Actually in the video editor, you can place those on your maps and they are called goodie huts. One time I placed so many of them on a map that I entered the next age in only like 5 turns. XD
@mdtm16 I like automating workers. I get anywhere from 20-50 workers over time, and they eventually will build the necessary irrigation/mines and build roads without you controlling them EVERY turn.
I just recently picked up civ 4, now this game is giving me a little trouble. Do you have civ 4, and would you be willing to make a walk through on that?
dude this is really cool, but if you could put it in a playlist that would be even better lol. I love this game, glad to see someone elses playthrough for a change

you put your cities too close.i put mine a few squares away then i make a lot of culture so it can grow together.

is this game more complex than civ 4 and 5
Mrmorgancross 5 months ago
You should manually connect the cities by building roads. That way the cities' population and culture grows. Then automate them

When I play Civ III I always make a mad dash for Literature, so I can get the Great Library Wonder.
And I automate my worker from the first turn as well. He usually knows what he's doing...Not ALL the time but he does.
UkyoKuonji2010 8 months ago
It's so weird, Civ.III is so much cooler that IV and V in my opinion, what do you think about that?

if you build a mine on a bit of gold or if theres an exotic resource near your city, do you have to build a road to your city to get the resource?
