If Obama had intelligence, he wouldn't listen to a psuedo-intellectual jock. His politics are a poorly thought-out, incompatible mismash of populist slogans, quasi-democracy, anti-Americanism, and religious conservatism. In Britain he was a playboy who drank, dressed in Western clothes, partied, threw money around, and treated women like disposable pleasures. In Pakistan he tells everyone to wear the shalwar kameez and wants to punish drinkers after his "religious awakening." What a hypocrite!

I knew he'd say this. He's a known Taliban sympathizer, and vows to implement sharia if elected. He calls it a "freedom struggle." The only freedom those locals need is from the fanatics, especially as they didn't originate in Swaat. He says he cares about the lives of innocent people killed by drones, but ignores innocent people dilberately killed by terrorists and the Taliban (apparently they're not "insane," but drones are).

@gyniest Many more innocent Pakistanis are killed by terrorists than by drones. And the Taliban were never the problem? I guess he forgot how they hosted Al Qaeda in first place and refused to hand them over. And no mention of the fact that terrorist attacks in Pakistan INCREASED after the peace deal, and that they gained control over more areas and compromised LESS. If he cares about aid, stability, courts, then the military needs fully secure the area first, and only then can it be rebuilt.

The problem mostly lies with the poorly educated/ tribal mentalities of the people on the border.Large swathes of the population are already fundemental, (if not violent) hence they have quite a high tolerance for taliban/extreme ideologies and a very low tolerance for anyone who is not them i.e pak/american army in their areas (esp when innocent people die). They are already largley autonomas in their own affairs from pak government but just dont have much will to fight extreme islam.
