@ShaggyDudeMan He said the average temperature is 65 degrees year-round. 100+ degree temperatures are expected in S. New Mexico. Also, did you notice how small the wood burner was? For the few months it freezes, I imagine those walls must keep that heat indoors quite well. Much better than in those 2x4 homes selling like flapjacks on the E. side. If one of those "car vs. home" scenarios went down on this one, my money would be on the home.

How expensive are rammed earth homes? I was wondering if an Earth Sjip could be made in such a method and for go the use of tires.

The great wall of China is basically a rammed earth structure and is very very old. Plain ole adobe brick buildings are sticl around after hundreds of years. The climate is a key factor. Soil with a high clay content is better especially for humide climates and it must be low radiation. Most all clays are somewhat ratioactive. However currrently used building materials expend many harmfull vapors and ratiations!

how are the exterior sheeting attached to the walls . also the interior walls are they stucco? if not how is the wall covering attached. and like someone else asked, is there a mortar mixed in to keep it from crumbling? or is the soil mostly clay?

I am currently living in this home and hope that it will be up for a hundred years. Average temp in the home is 65 degrees, winter and summer, with an average total monthly utility bill of less than $100.  Winter less than summer, since we have A/C.

hi there Pancho. I have been looking at 'Earthships' (the earth-filled used tyres) but this rammed earth construction looks much better.

Is it an expensive technique?
