  • It doesn't take imagination or intelligence to have a sense of wonder. So it really is a wonder how come some people don't seem to have one?!

  • Great comment & i totally agree with you :)

  • Going to Key West wit my mother and sister was a lot like that. I just wanted to lie on the beach sleeping and enjoy just that when all they wanted to do was get back to the resort and get ready for dinner...

When I first drove West I stopped in the Black Hills of South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. I hobbled on crutches all the way from the parking lot to where you can see it, and spent some time there. I saw a German tourist arrive, say, "Ja, so?" turn around, and walk away...

  • For some people going on holiday seems to be all about eating & drinking. I've never really understood that myself.

I'm afraid to say that your 2nd paragraph does not surprise me at all, unfortunately :)

  • Andy, I know what you mean. I live in the North of Glasgow and we are priveliged enough to be able to see the beginnings of the western highlands from here. It's also possible to see some of the islands of Scotland on a clear day. I never take it for granted, to me I am blessed to be able to wake up every day and be allowed to see these scenes. Great subject Andy.

  • And i in turn know exactly what you mean. I'm glad you have that great view to look out on :)

  • I can't even imagine how disappointed the people were not to get to take some time to look at something as beautiful as the Grand Canyon!

  • i think i would have taken my chances & asked to be let out of the car. Fancy going all that way & not seeing & experiencing a sight like that properly :)

  • I wish i lived near the sea! I'm in awe of it every time i see it, even if its just a passing glimpse. For someone not to appreciate something with such natural beauty is beyond me.

They should think about the countless number of blind people in the world who would probably kill to see such things even for a split second...and they take them for granted!! pfff

I think we have the same sunglasses...although yours look better on you.lol

  • Those sunglasses are over 8 years old & still going strong. I bought them in Florida & i'm very attached to them.

I realise that i'm lucky to live by the sea. I moved here over 20 years ago & would hate to leave. Unless that was to somewhere else near to the sea :)

  • Gimmieabreakman said something in one of his last videos that "they has a dull look in their eye like stupidity"

There are many people who think the Grand Canyon or the Eiffel Tower or The Great Wall... They look at the the same way a dog does. "Hmm. interesting. I have to poop."

  • What is it with you & poop? :)

  • Agreed... Lovely beach indeed!

  • I realise i am lucky to live so close to such a nice spot & it's perfect for vlogging too :)

  • Much like myself, I don't take such things for granted.

    Cheers to you!

  • I cant imagine taking all the time to get to an attraction and then not enjoying it!

  • My thoughts exactly Daryl :)

  • I couldn't agree more! Thanks, Ang

  • Thanks :)

  • As you know I spend sometimes 2 to 4 hours in a single place doing time lapse pieces... Several of those in the Cinematography Invitation I uploaded yesterday... When I was younger I think I leaned more toward the behavior you reffer to except while archery hunting... The older I get the longer I take places in... I suspect many folks are just too preoccupied for their own good...

  • Maybe age does change the way you appreciate things & not just scenery either?

As Danny (dl737) said below. Maybe we take more time because we don't know if we'll ever be back again? :)

  • Went camping with females from church group, all had tents but me...I like to sleep out under the stars...they thought I was weird..

I warned my travel partners that I would disappear into the woods & not to worry...early first morn I took walk & found beautiful spot by stream, sat for a few hours before they woke/searched & "found" me. (I like to sit & soak in nature without the chatter of peeps.) They did not get it - so sad, found myself wondering why they even bothered coming to the woods..

  • I like that story.

As you know i like the woods as well & totally relate with what you were saying :)

  • Where i live is bad for that ppl drive up from atleast six hours away to see the sights but most never even get out of the car untill they want to eat or get gas.

If i'm not to interested in a place and just want to see what it looks like i might do that but usuallly i want to get out and experience it and see if i might want to return sometime.

  • I can't believe that people would drive for 6 hours & then not get out of their car & take a look. Well, actually i can believe that!

We have that here as well. People drive down to look at the sea & then just sit in their cars. They might as well just watch a video :)

  • The beach at Bulverhythe is a great place. I often have a wander along to Ravenside. But Grand Canyon what's that? ;-)

It is good you appreciate your own back yard you can see it everyday. It is also good to see beyond that and comment on the splendors of our planet. Grand Canyon one place I would love to see. When is the next coach.....

  • I'm often amazed at how many local people have never gone down to that beach. They don't know what they're missing do they?

Having said that. it's nice to have that beach more or less all to yourself. So, let's keep it a secret :)

  • Didn't the area win some sort of competion to have the cycle path extended from (ex) Stamco groyne to Galley Hill? It wil not be a secret for long. Not that I am against cycle paths at all.

  • I've heard about extending the cycle path. Personally i hope they don't do it. You can cycle along the beach anyway, i've done it before.

As you say, if that happens, the secret will be out .

  • Yeah, no doubt. It's more about where we can have our photo ops than really paying attention to where we are or what we're doing. We humans are too taken with our own reflections perhaps.

  • Good point about photo ops. That is certainly part of the problem.

I also have a bit of a problem with people who only want to have their pic taken in front of the historic building, or scenic landscape.

Personally, i'd rather there was no one in the photo at all. Unless it's to show the scale.

Take one of you in front, by all means. But, also take them of what you actually came to see in the first place :)

  • I've seen people do as you describe. Show up take a couple of pictures. Leave. Me - I try to stretch it out. One more look, one more pic - never knowing when and if I will be back. The difference - I am sad knowing what I am leaving behind - they are blissful in their ignorance. So who has it better?? :)

  • I'm in that "one more look" camp too. As you say, you never know if you'll be back again. Make the most of the one opportunity you have to see something :)

  • what's next? That's the whole mad rush we're in all the time innit? People often don't stop to smell the proverbial roses.

  • Part of it is rushing & some of it is possibly pure ignorance of the beauty of what is around them :)

  • just shows ya, lack of attention span, isnt only internet based.

  • Very good point & you're right too :)

  • Are you familiar with the Vacation movies (with Chevy Chase)? The scenes you describe of not stopping to appreciate the view are typical of the Griswald family in the movies - in fact, I'm pretty sure the Grand Canyon was one of their quick stops. When I go someplace, I don't leave till the camera battery dies.

  • I think i've seen at least some of them Ken & i can imagine that being a part of the story.

I'll bear that last part in mind, just in case i'm ever visiting anywhere interesting with you :)

  • I have the opposite type of story: I was driving to a southern state with a couple of friends. My car broke down and ended up having to spend the night 2 hours away from my destination. Meanwhile, one of my friends who happened to be from a different country, loved the whole experience, including riding in the tow truck that was pulling my defunct car! Some ppl...the glass is always half full!

    :)

  • LOL I started to read your comment & was wondering when that might have happened.

Then a big lightbulb lit up in my brain. Doh!

Sometimes you just have to make the most of what life throws you Gary. That was certainly one of those occasions :)

  • Yes it was! Without you guys there, it would have been stressful! In the end, it was something that memories are made of! :)

  • Excellent point here. Sometime we are so quick to get onto the next big thing that we forget to enjoy the now.

  • Thanks Russ. Agreed. But, i also think that some people just do not appreciate whats around them :)

  • wen I lived in Blackpool I used to spend hours on the beach - great way to pick up chicks so I appreciated it a lot!

  • The only chicks i'm likely to get on my beach, are very small seagulls! :)

  • It goes back to the old saying "you've got to stop and smell the roses" I think Andy. Some people are in such a hurry ... for what?! I would hate to get to the "pearly gates" and have a voice say "Okay you've seen enough..off you go!" Ooops!! hugs, Chris

  • The pearly gates are one place i have no intention of seeing any time soon. They might not let me in anyway!

Just think how many people miss out on that scent of the roses :)
