hey, you shouldn't breathe right before your turn and you should stay on your back more right after-even if your dying for air. it really increases speed alot (sorry for the crappy user name its my sisters account)
Get outside help for your form and streamline (eyes watching as you swim I mean) and pay close attention to what you are doing with your hands after pushoff. I've done it myself ;)
you need to work on your catch, as you sould be pulling with the forearm and palm, you are just pulling with you hand. you are also over rotating to breathe, which is making your head move to much and your shoulder to drop on one side which causes major drag. plus when your pushing off the wall your not in a tight enough superstretch.
I suppose You might find interesting: "Total Immersion's "Perpetual Motion Freestyle"" - it is available on YouTube (6 episodes i think) - Terry Laughlin talks about some interesting issues - try that even when it takes almost an hour :). And keep swimming more SMART than STRONG - regards from Poland. Hows Roman Polanski :) ??
Absolutely don't look forward - keep looking at the bottom of the pool and keep Your head a bit under water - thats for the beginning - later try to not "waving" your body (its not a butterfly), try to keep more streamline position/extend Your stroke as long as You can without decreasing tempo (count strokes per lap - keep as low amount as You only can without loosing time/speed - regards
Hi boolekx, thanks for advice. There are several good suggestions which I'm going to try out. Now this video is already nearly a year old and I really need a new one to see if all your great input has helped improve my style ! Cheers, Matthias
tewordt, have a look at Shinji's freestyle videos on youtube. There's a lot you could learn from him. The only thing you do right is the tumble turn. Everything else is very bad indeed.
Based on this video I can give you a few advice. When you pull don't pull with a straight arm, there are diffrent ways you can achive a good pull look it up and see which one you prefer. Then when you put your arm in the water after a recovery, dont just smack the water, glide it down on the water, and reach as you pull with the other arm, reach reach reach extend your back muscle, and roll on your side, don't roll too much just enough to cut through the water. Good luck.
Hi ibcitezen, thanks a lot for great advice. It's interesting you're saying I should not pull with a straight arm which it looks I'm doing. However my own view when I'm swimming is that I stretch it and then flex the elbow strongly after the catch - obviously a deception. I will try to overdo it strongly, maybe it gets better. Thanks a lot anyway for great advice. Matthias
Wrong technique...!!!!

Suggest learning TI freestyle. There is very little in your demo that isn't wrong.

Hi Dolphin, are you a new TI disciple ? Don't worry, you'll enter new phases. I have started with TI but see what's come out of it ...

i totally agree! The hand drops very very low! This is not considered correct.

Elbows far too low!

elbows low though if you have a good look at it, always above the hands. And that's what counts I would have thought ...
