If Rommel had sided with like minded national heros like Oster and later Galland; then issuing challenges for the removal of nazism with support from an armed citizenry, the insane ruling minority could have been put down in short order. If you live in a disarmed population get out while you still can.

Also, the mobility was superb in the Russian mud, but yes, there were a few mechanical problems, but they were worked out by the end of the war. Also 75mm L/70>76.2mm

However, the casualty rate for the allies is very high due to the number of Soviets killed, but especially civilians. 2-3 million were killed at Stalingrad alone. That skews the figures.

but in africa most of indian soldiers report that nazis were far more lenient than they had been to any caught nazi; just goes to show germans were equally or more humane than poms or sams but then they lost the war.

@LdHighEverythingElse As one half of the "War Without Hate" I must say Australian troops admired him and the way he fought with honour and respect of his foe.He never allowed killing of POW's and made sure Allied troops were given the same medical treatment s his own troops just as the Allies did for Rommel's men. War is a terrible business but at least he kept it as clean as possible

At least Rommel was one of the better commanders on the Axis side. He treated POWs fairly, and had the decency to stand up to Hitler and pay for it after the July20th
1944 plot to assassinate Hitler. He was lucky to have been spared a trial by the dreaded People's Court.

great generals need luck and fuel also sufficient amunition and supply... comparing rommel with other generals through the centuries i would say that he was limiited.. his star was short with or without fuel support.. its simple to understand that the territory you fight must be always open and friendly and that can not last if you face other big armies stubborn to defeat you..

Waffen SS? Cowards? The Luftwaffe was something to rival the RAF and their Ground infantry was some of the highest-classed infantry during the war. @Jitterskull What the fuck are you talking about! The German Panzerkampfwagen V or Panther, was arguably the best all-round tank of the Second World War. The armor was superior to even the Tiger tanks, because 80mm of armor at a 45 degree slope is 110-115mm from the way most guns on vehicles fired, A FLAT TRAJECTORY. Also, the mobility was superb in the Russian mud, but yes, there were a few mechanical problems, but they were worked out by the end of the war. Also 75mm L/70>76.2mm

@ungotter No I don't think anyone would consider them pussies, they fought until the bitter end and made the Soviets pay for every meter they captured in Berlin. Many other peoples surrendered right from the get-go. However, the casualty rate for the allies is very high due to the number of Soviets killed, but especially civilians. 2-3 million were killed at Stalingrad alone. That skews the figures.
