  • Hi,Buddy, love that Ric sound, would aJanglebox used on a Ric 360-6 have the same effect?

  • Hi Buddy,Please help me,would aJanglebox compressor help myRicenbacker 360-6 ,sound anything like a 12 string.Please advise.

  • @MrBen58862 "MrBen" I have heard that the Janglebox is a good compressor...however, I have never personally played through one or listened to one live so I cannot say for sure. I have vintage toaster pickups in all of my Rickenbacker guitars and I set up a bit of compression on my Yamaha DG Stomp...and that is what I use. I may acquire a Jangle box compressor in the future myself.

  • perfect

  • great song and great guitar player but the rickenbacker also makes the difference.

  • Hello Buddy i like that sound of the ricenkbacker, you are a great guitar player i "m

a drummer playing in the hudson sixties band rotterdam holland wish my friends play that guitars.keep up the good work Buddy!!!! greetings from holland!

  • @5boelie Thanks! I am using the Rickenbacker through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4-10 amp and also some compression from a Yamaha DG Stomp Pedal. I do not own a Jangle Box...but I may give one a try sometime. I hear they are great compressors.

  • Hello buddy , you are a great guitar player i like that rickenbacker sound so much

what are you ushing ,a jangle box or something or is it just the sound of the guitar

please let me know.gretings from Rotterdam holland.

  • yeaaaa you live in a 60's years house!!

  • @micirest Not really...Just my gallery and music room. The rest of my home is very traditional bordering on formal.

  • Who could "dislike" Buddy Clontz! You're a great player and have all of the nuances down on these old classics

  • @zevon1964 Thanks...but I'm sure plenty of people do...LOL I am way too honest sometimes.

  • Very nice. What were you running the Ric into? Mine always sounded 'thuddy', even through an AC-30. Did you have a compressor on? i did not have the toaster pu's though....

  • Hi Buddy, I agree with the other posters - you are a great player! My wife just got me a rick 360/12 MG for my 40th b'day (a 20-year dream of mine) and I have been very inspired by your videos. Keep up the great work and posts.

  • @psymonts Thank you! I hope you will enjoy your Rickenbacker guitar as much as I have mine.

  • Very Nice Performance, Beautiful Roger McGuinn sound.....

  • Great playing! Do you find the Rickenbacker 12 strings hard to play? Many people seem to be uncomfortable with the narrow neck, but you're doing just fine.

  • @ccrholland Thanks! The necks on the Ric 360's are narrow and with the 12-string it does take some getting used to. I hope to get the time to become a decent player on it eventually.

  • are you out of tune or something? this doesn't sound anything like roger mcguinn

  • GREAT JOB!

  • You captured McGuinn's sound w/o finger picks! I didn't think it was possible. He does that 3 finger banjo-roll thing that makes me nuts.

  • @Bilco1949 Thanks! I think Roger is the only person who can really bring the Ric-12 to its full potential. He has a superior playing technique. I did use more of that terchnique in the "Eight Miles High" video so check it out.

  • I really enjoy your videos, I also like that your music is in my time period of music. Although I do not play an instrument I think of that time period as a Golden Age of Music. I also want to say Thank You

  • @MrLt69812 Thanks!

  • I love to hear someone that can play a Ric well, and you're one of those people. I'm sure you're familiar with Roger McGuinn. I read somewhere that with the Byrds he kept his 12 turned down to Eb.

  • @johnnynocaster not true, the byrds were tuned to E

  • Hey Buddy- are you playing that Ric with the tuning of the strings they have from the factory (bass on top of the octave string) or did you switch the strings (octave on top of bass)? I felt it was harder to play a 12 string with the bass on top of the octave strings.

  • @TurgeonFan77132 My Ric 360-12 and 370-12 both are strung as they came from the Rickenbacker factory. Both are also tuned to standard tuning. Thanks for watching!

  • Beautiful guitar, beautiful song, beautifully played... jealous on all scores, but thanks.

  • Ahhh, music to my ears Buddy! Love listening to your videos. Hey, Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  • @edro3111 Thank you...and merry Christmas to you as well.

  • What is producing that drum beat?

  • mr clontz could you please tell me that model of rickenbacker? because all of the 360's i see today have modern, high gain pickups which do not give the vintage sound for what i play thank you

  • @ubacam This is a 360-12. I had to take the high gain pickups out and replace them with factory direct vintage toaster pickups. I do have a few models that came with the toasters installed from the factory however.

  • @BuddyClontz okay thank you very much, maybe one day ill do that but until then i think a 325 c will do haha

  • Buddy Clontz - I salute you sir! You have a great tone and touch on those 12 string beasts :)

  • Nice try buddy, but your playing the entire thing wrong, you need to learn how to pick and roll.

  • got George Harrison's color of axe but Jim McGuinn's sound!!!

  • IM 15, MY FREINDS TELLME THIS MUSIC SUCKS. I TELL THEM THAT THEIR HEAVY METAL AND RAP SUCKS LOL. I NOTICED PETER MAX POSTERS. HES MY FAVORITE ARTIST. MY PARENTS JUST BOUGHT 16 PAINTINGS DONE BY HIM LOL. AWESOME GUITAR PLAYING. THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS. ITS THE BEST ON YOUTUBE.

    BENNY G

  • @BENNYGPRODUCTIONS Thanks! If you liked those posters, you should have a look at some of the others in my collection on my website.

  • Sharp as usual Mr. Clontz. Greetings from Mexico.

  • this is great!

  • Sounds great. Thanks for putting it out there for us!

  • @tubeamp Thanks!

  • @BuddyClontz I had an electric 12 for awhile, but it didn't sound like that!!

  • Bravo Buddy!! Just beautiful!!

  • @MrDanzo711 Thanks!

  • Excellent rendition + WoW great collection of guitars

  • @DieHardBeatlesFan Thanks!

  • Just curious Buddy. Were you playing through a Vox amp at the time you played the Ric 12?

  • @garlin80 No...I don't own a Vox amp...although I'll probably get an AC-30 eventually. I was playing through one of my Fender Hot Rod Deville 4-10 amps and they sound pretty good with the Rickenbacker to my ears.

  • could you make another video playing aqualung?

  • at least as good as rodger mcguinn's version solo performance. (with respect)

  • @jer19541 Thanks! But I have to say, Roger McGuinns ability to play the 12-string is far superior to mine, and so is his performance of this music.

  • very nice cover, the sound you are getting to me sounds very electric haha but great

  • Buddy, you sound just incredible! Thanks for posting your talent and dedication!

    Mike

  • @MGD326 Thank you!

  • Buddy!!!

    You are miraculous!!!

  • just love that sound.........

  • @warlaw1 Thanks!

  • It's on my bucket list to buy a Roger McGuinn-style 360 12-string. Someday, when I have an extra $2000 bucks to kill. Sigh...

  • Hey Buddy, I'm sure you know the song 'From a Distance' which was covered by the Byrds in the early to mid 90's...you should try and do the rickenbacker part in there..seeing as how it's pretty prevalent. That would be a-mazing!

  • I'll get one of these, I know I'll do... someday.

    Beautiful cover btw!

  • @Youtubax Thanks!

  • ultra!!!

  • That sounds AWESOME! What an amazing sound!

  • @dasvassen Thanks! You should check out Roger McGuinn on the Rickenbacker or any 12-string because he is a true master of the instrument. I wish I were half as good as he is.

  • That sounds AWESOME!

  • Buddy... did you change your 6 saddle bridge to a 12 saddle? If so, did it help very much with intonation? I'm finding my 360/12 is a real bear to play - the Ric necks are so blasted thin. :)

  • @Painkill3r4 This guitar has the original 6 saddle bridge...although my 370-12 has a 12-saddle bridge. Both of mine are intonated pretty well without problems...but I agree the necks being thin make it a bit more of a challenge to play.

  • how mutch it kost?

  • @18426384 Not cheap...LOL

  • Where does the percussion come from? Sounds great, Buddy! Awesome sound!

  • @huskyjerk The percussion and keyboards were performed and recorded by Kenny Carter...my old high school band director...and collaborating musician on many projects over the years. He is an ace musician on many instruments.

  • Nice job Buddy. I think a 360/12 would probably be just the thing to keep my 620/12 and 330 company. ( do Fender and Gibson enthusiasts have this problem?)

    Nice poster collection too!

  • Nice job Buddy. I think a 360/12 would probably be just the thing to keep my 620/12 and 330 company. ( do Fender and Gibson enthusiasts have this problem?)

    Nice poster collection too!

  • You have the perfect tone and pitch for this. Are you using a Janglebox by any chance Buddy?

  • @Painkill3r4 Thanks! No...I don't own a Janglebox compressor...but I am considering one. I've heard good comments about them.

  • @BuddyClontz

I bought one about a month ago and I gotta tell you, it's well worth the investment. Mind you, my Ric 330 through the Janglebox sounds like a 12 string Ric with it switched on (which you aleady have) so it may be a moot point in your case. :)

Incidentally, which strings have you found work best with your Rics? I'm considering going to a .09 guage as I find there's not a whole lot of room with 10 guage. Reason I ask is, whatever strings you're using sound fantastic!

  • @Painkill3r4 Thanks! I'm using the Rickenbacker Brand Compressed Med Round Wound Sting set. I too am thinking about going to .09 guage so that I might use less hand pressure to play chords with.

  • @BuddyClontz

Thanks for the info about your strings, Buddy. It'll be interesting to see/hear how the .09 guage perfom. Another fellow I've spoken with who also has a 330 said it was like night and day switching from the .10s to the .09s. Unfortunately, Ric doesn't make .09 guage that I can see.

  • awesome, bang out some jeff buckley..

  • Buddy, do you have to make adjustments on your Rickenbacker 12 stings much. The truss rods. I know NC can get pretty humid, as I spent 6 months at Fort Bragg in 1971?

  • It is usually very humid where I live during the summer months but I don't have any problems with my 12-strings. They seem to stay in tune and adjusted.

  • Is it a G tuning? Same as Tambourine Man? If You like 12s you have to try a DeArmond S73-12 , they are a poor man's Rick - I have '67 360-12 to compare it to, and a 366-12 convertible.

  • @outerrealm I am tuned in standard tuning. Two of my Rickenbackers are 12-strings(360-12 and 370-12)

  • Wow! What a nice guitar! - my dream for the next thousand years! Boaaa! Why must that thing so much expensiv? It is the greatest guitar of all times! Rickenbacker !!!!!

  • To capture the timing, sound and style is really cool. It doesn't hurt having the right equipment either. I might add you have a little gold dust on your playing...well done!

  • @PocoPortillo Thank you very much!

  • Buddy, great work as always. What amp?

  • Thanks! I used a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4-10 amp.

  • Awesome guitar man!!

..and awesome song played very well!!

  • Thanks!

  • gotta love that rickenbacker sound! this is great!

  • Thanks !

  • This would make Roger turn his head......

  • Probably the other way...LOL

  • WOW! You are humble! Never change that! Humble artists are a dying breed. As a guitarist that enjoys good tone, you have mastered this, my friend.

  • @plurr4all Thanks for your kind words!

  • Wow man!!!!!

  • Great sound, thanks.

  • perfect!

  • Hi Buddy, es ist schon eine Augen - und Ohrenweide, Dich spielen zu sehen. Auch in all Deinen anderen Videos ! Danke !!!

  • What amp is this going through? Will the 'rickenbacker sound' always come through, regardless of the amp you use, or is it better to have a valve amp like an old AC30 or a Fender twin?

  • The Rickenbacker sound is very distinct and will always come through...especially with a good tube(valve) amp. I also use a little compression when I'm playing my Rickenbacker guitars.

  • I love the sound of the electric 12 string Rickenbacker guitar!

  • Thanks, I liked this better than the original.

  • Hi Buddy came across your videos today "wow" and I gotta tell you it makes me want to pick up my ole 4005-8 string Rickenbacker bass and start playing again.

Your doing a fab job mate keep up the excellent work and lets start a band together real soon! ! !

  • Thank you!

  • excellent cover, my friend. i think i like it better than mcguinn's job on his instructional video.

  • Thanks!

  • Beautiful playing and guitar. I just picked up a 330-6. Hope to add a 12 to the stable some day. No sound like it anywhere.

  • This is lovely! Summer 60s sound. You nailed it there mate! Good on you.... Peace!

  • Thanks! -BC

  • YOU can still BUY them no way whear can i get one pls tell me

  • Order a new model from a Rickenbacker Dealer...or purchase a used model from an individual. -BC

  • How much is a 12 string Rickenbacker

  • They vary depending on what model, finish, and pickups you order. They are not cheap...but they are well worth the cost. -BC

  • Yea I checked their retailer prices- something in the range of $1500-$3000

But you know you are getting a damn fine guitar

  • True! -BC

  • About $2200 discounted with case.

  • Fantastic Buddy!

  • Thanks! -BC

  • Nice sound! However...I believe Roger McGuinn finger picked this.

  • Thanks! Roger McGuinn definitely fingerpicked this tune although he sometimes used/uses a flat pick and finger picks. I play it both ways...and this is a really simplified version with a flat pick. With that said, I don't know of anyone who is any better on a Rickenbacker 12-string than Roger McGuinn. He is the master of this guitar as far as I can tell. -BC

  • Hat's off to you. I am a huge fan of any jangly rickenbacker riffs and you do this classic song proud. How much did you get the Rick for? I could never afford one. Maybe when i'm older!

  • Thanks! I purchased this one about 10 years ago so it was about half(maybe less) than the current price. -BC

  • That's a good price. At the moment a 12 string like yours is going for 2 grand. Maybe when I'm more professional i could afford one. Have you heard of The Smiths? Their guitarist is a genius when it comes to Rick riffs.

  • Yes...I am aware of Johnny Marr. -BC

  • Just Beautiful!!..Thanks..

  • Thank you! -BC

  • That is one of the most beautiful sounding guitars I've heard in a while, thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, what do you use for backing tracks?

  • A friend and I recoded the backing tracks for this one. - BC

  • mh i think there is too less jingle jangle in the guitar. Nice cover but no jingle jangle

    greetz

  • absolute pleasure listning to that ,wonderfull sound. thanks buddy:)

  • Thank you! -BC

  • Absolutely Beautiful!! Thanks!!

  • Thank you! -BC

  • Play some more bass covers! I see a J/P bass hiding back there! : )

  • I may do a few Bass Covers...

  • GREAT JOB!! Played beautifully!

  • Thanks! -BC

  • Absolutely fantastic mate! Really well done. :-) Cheers

  • Thanks! -BC

  • did you use a jangle box compressor? if i use a janglebox compressor can i get that sound ??

  • No...I di not use a Jangle Box. All I used was a compressor setting on my Yamaha Stomp Box. -BC

  • ok thank you bnut can i find thate fefect in a vox ad50vt?and can you calify my videos please i need teh opinion of an expert like you please well thanks

  • Very Nice Buddy... and good to see a Ricky again ;o)

    Take care, Jenx.

  • Thanks! -BC

  • is he doing that with "all flat-picking"???

  • Yes...I played this version by flatpicking the whole song. I did another version where I used a flat pick and finger picks which is closer to the technique that Roger McGuinn used/uses...although I am nowhere near as good a player as he is. -BC

  • Was wondering what amp you are using

those Ricks 360 12s are really in a class of ther own Im a Lefty so its gonna be a while before I can own one Good Job!

  • Thanks! -I'm using a Fender Hot Rod DeVille Tube amp. The 4-10 model. -BC

  • really if you search anough you can find one. I own two rick leftys a 4003 and a 360. and a righty 330 12 i switched

  • No argument there, BC!

  • Very nicely done! I couldn't afford the price the famed Rick myself (limited budget) so I bought the next best thing for a fraction of the cost. It looks better and it sounds extremely close to the Rick. It's a Dean Boca 12 string and it runs for around $350.00 vs thousands. There is a demo on Youtube

  • Thanks...but I have one point of contention with your comment and I have to say up front that no one pays me to do any of this but there really are almost no guitars on the market that compete with Rickenbacker in quality fit and finish. They are truly in a class all to themselves. -BC

  • I likes these types of guitars

  • honestly, how long did it take you to save up to all those guitars ?

  • I don't know. I buy them when I see one I think I can't live without...LOL -BC

  • Where did you get the original song to play along to without vocals? thanks.

  • A friend of mine (Kenny Carter) and myself played the backing track and recorded it.

  • ok, thanks! Sounds good!

  • Very well done!

  • Thanks! -BC

  • your a ledg bro

  • Damn that just sounds so fine!

  • My good sir, well done. Now I want a Rickenbacker, but I can't decide wether to get the 360 or the 330. Which would you suggest? Which one is better in which fields of playing? Thanks.

  • Thanks! I personally like the 360 models...especially the 360-12. -BC

  • Thank you very much sir. Keep it up! I'm very surprised I have not heard of you actually, cause I know many Ric players who are Youtube greats. Do you have any recordings that you personally write and or sell?

  • Thanks! I have played on some material that was written by members of a Praise and Worship Group called "Sentforth". The CD is available on the web over at Cafe' Press. My original material has never been recorded properly so I haven't put it out there but one day I hope to find the time to do it right . Look on You Tube and Garage Band and places like that and you'll find a few of my originals in which I played every instrument and sang. -BC

  • Perfect. WIll do. And if you want some quick fixes on cd's, just convert your youtube videos to mp3's. But otherwise, keep it up cause you rock. And you have secured my purchase for a 360 once I have all the money.

  • Hey Buddy, when you have some time do you think you could post a "guitar Lesson" video on this song. I cannot find a "how to" anywhere...

  • I'll see what I can do. Right now I am bogged down in an addition onto my home...but I have to have a place to put my guitars...LOL -BC

  • fantastic my friend!! I have new covers! if you want watching!! =)

  • Nicely done Buddy, as always. Are you running it through any compressors/JangleBox/etc?

  • I normally compress the Rickenbackers with my Yamaha DG Stomp which has a compressor setting. I may get a Jangle Box eventually. I've heard they are very good. -BC

  • it just goes to show you....rickenbacker 12 strings are just the sweetest sounding guitars in the world....=]...awesome cover

  • Thanks! The Rics are special guitars for sure. -BC

  • yer welcome....and I love this tune because of that Ric.....=)

  • Man, my wife would shoot me if I had that many guitars laying around! I'm still trying to figure out how to sneak in a Marshall stack though...

  • i wish i could play as well as u i play quite well for stariting only 2 years...ur so amazing man
