  • Julia, thanks for sharing this with me.

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful!! xx

  • i remember watching this with my dad when i was 8 years old and ive loved the band ever since ( im 30 now ) i even have the full concert of this on my ipod which i blast in my car all the time

  • no coment,super

  • Chris White playing the sax solo of his life. Never bettered and beautifully captured by the BBC Director with those sweeping left to right and overhead camera crane shots. Outstanding.

  • I miss you.....

  • Magnifique chanson!

  • fantastic tune,pity its not a little louder :(

  • Look at about 5:01 - 5:05 ...You can almost see tears in Knopfler's eyes. If the song is bringing tears to the MUSICIANS eyes, you know it is incredibly epic.

That saxophone solo is beyond words...

  • 4 people suck

  • Love this song!

  • how many of secretly wish you could relive the 80's and wear those ridiculous clothes? Come on....admit it.....you liked the spike and the mullet.....and you still have the sport coat with the shoulder pads......

  • @pcburgh01 I wish i had!

  • Nossa nao tem nem comparação com um Brasileiro ouvir novamente essas musicas é como se nesse tempo eu voltasse ao passado e ver que a musica esta de volta porque o que temos no Brasil hoje nao posso "reconheçe-las" como musicas

  • i remember one night i had this song playing in my room and my girlfriend in my arms. Best feeling ever

  • If you've never cried when you make love; you don't know what love is.

  • @Brendan3875 Never a truer word spoken...

  • I hope the youth of today discover this music as they get older....

  • @RACGump When I was younger I used to hate my parent's music...Now I realize that it is FAR better than anything coming out today...

  • @Quake120 :) Thats coz they were real musicians... today, the looks and image come first, musical talent last ;)

  • Awesome song.........worthy of the greatest of the genre, as time will show.

  • mel/chris ? amazing ,no doubtin tht

  • dire straits kick so much ass

  • part of the great 80's!! to you all,,,,these are TRUE CLASSICS!! thanks slaviad11....i was there. So many good memories!!! G!OODMAN

  • Musica con alma. Directo.

  • I'm so glad to be able to say I was there. What a great day, hearing this still sends shivers down my spine. He can certainly make a guitar cry or sing (check the lyric in Sultans Of Swing). And millions have sung and cried along with him. Best rock guitarist the world has known....

  • amazing sax solo

  • I had this on video that has just broken, has anyone got this on dvd and if so can i have a copy?

  • i was there!

  • ... How about it?

Love this song!! been looking for this version for about 2 years... thanks to slaviad11 for posting it on youtube! x

  • Yeah i thank you too . GREAT SONG !!!

  • So you and me babe?

  • Just beautiful and magical

  • clapton and knopfler are good friends, they do many concerts together....

  • MK- guitar god

Dire straits- best band ever and unfortunably not so noun as they should be they are great

i think you should check out the cover version of this music by the killers is pretty nice

    MK4EVER EC4EVER

  • MK must have some serious cash if he can afford to hire eric clapton as a backing guitarist. either that or clapton was a bit hard up then for some reason

  • MK can choose the backingguitarist he want ;) It's noone that don't want to play for him ! :)

  • It was a charity gig! Lots of big names played together.

  • As far as I know, this was a charity concert :) So Dire Straits didn't "hire" Clapton, they just played together :)

  • National Style O :)

  • wow, I wanted to check out the comments here before I played, I just came onto it from a link from Brothers in Arms, which I only just heard for the first time to recently. I'm looking forward to hearing this, Dire Straits are incredible

  • This song has so many references to Bob Dylan's lyrics, that I almost think he wrote it. Don't stone me for this...

  • 2:42

    is he crying?

  • no, he's not

  • sigh, i love dire straits. there's simply no other band like them :)

  • I've always loved this band and this song. I just met a girl the other day and I fell in love with her. We both spent an amazing time with each other, until some asshole came up and ruined it for us. But the next day, when i went to talk to her, i could only think of the lyrics in this song because thats the way it ended between me and her. I told her about this song, before it all happened, so maybe there's hope. i ain't giving up. i still got more living to do.

  • Go for it mate, there are not enough true romantics left in the world. If it is meant to be it will happen, or look at it this way...what have you got to lose.

  • you know man thanks a lot i appreciate that

  • thats the spirit mate \m/

  • I think the whole song was incredible. Marks guitar at the end is amazing!!

  • the intro was incredible.

  • THE greatest version of R&J there will ever be. Perfect intro, perfect saxaphone solo, Clapton on backing, great piano improvisation, and MK using the Brothers in Arms guitar. This is why we used to go to concerts. Shame about the feedback noise at times.

  • I couldn't agree more with you.

  • They soun each day better than the day before; live or in studio, simply the best!!!

  • what an insane intro - just gives me goosebumps. If this doesnt move you nothing will

  • A standing ovation for the saxophonist Mel Collins !!!

  • Yeah, he is great but he is Chris White, not Mel Collins.

  • @pacomassesio

Yeah, it's Chris White, the best saxophonist in de UK ;)

Mel Collins plays Two Young Lovers on the Alchemy Live CD ;)

  • @pacomassesio Saxophonist is Chris White, Mel did the Alchemy tour in 1983. Chris joined in 1985 for the Brothers in Arms tour, he stayed with Dire Straits until they disbanded.

  • All Dire Straits´ songs are masterpieces, just love em all, there´s no band like them, they just rule. To bad i weren´t around when they played concerts like this.

  • i know man they are truly amazing

  • knophler has to be one of the most underrated songwriters of a generation doesn't he? this, tunnel of love, telegraph road, once upon a time in the west brothers in arms, sultans of swing, private investigations and iron hand have to be some of the finest lyrics ever written. simply brilliant!!

  • mark knopfler and eric clapton are both so cute, and them performing together is amasing

  • i was born 6 years after this concert

its because of concerts like this that i was born in a free SA

I love this band wish they were still together making music

Mk and eric will be ledgends 4eva

  • i was born 4 years after.... wooo go SA!!

actually i fucking hate it here but meh..... Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton will always be the best.. doesnt matter how old they get, i mean have you seen them play there shows?! if its not as good as they were when they were young ... its better!

  • wow what a sax solo!

  • I agree! Shivers down your spine everytime 5:45 onwards!

  • And dont you just love that saxophone solo. Saw them live in England that guy really did it for me. Never any mention of him though. Dire Straits evoke so many wonderful memories and with Eric Clapton there as well, what more can you want. Fantastic.

  • don't you just love seeing this on youtube, an entire comment section without hate, only love for the same music.. thanks for the clip!

  • grande dire..muy buen grupo...me encanta...

  • top of the class==}}

  • .... and he was the brightest star to ever shine in my sky. Someday, the timing won't be wrong. Until that day ... there's this. Thank you for posting this.

  • I loveeee it!

So sad... so beautiful... so mine!!!!

and I never know what I gonna do about it...

  • Deeply, from my heart, to you, my sweet lady...

  • What a great concert! One of the best of all times!

  • super

  • greatest song ever. period.

  • that guitar brings me back 20 years.

    amazing band back then.

  • its a great solo - rival's bruce springsteen's jungleland and clarance clemons' solo!!! (which is worth listening to believe me)

  • i listen to this song all day. it's just amazing. That was real music. No sellout, no commerce, just real musicians that knew how to play their instruments and write songs.

  • Just fecking amazing, best version ever and takes me back 20 years like it was yesterday!

There is just no one out there like this anymore, such a shame!

  • and sad to know: there won't be

  • Mark Knopfler looks very emotionally into this performance, he loses himself in it when the sax is meant to kick, i love it.

  • So nice to see again, it takes me back to a beautiful time in my life. Wonderful memories :)

  • Sax solo awesome. Why was Clapton there? Am I missing something, or did he just pass on his solo opp///

  • Clapton was there because regular DS guitarist Hal Lindes became a father that day so he was occupied, so Knopfler called Eric to fill in and Clapton agreed.

  • Hal Lindes was sacked by Knopfler during the making of Brothers in Arms. You're thinking of Jack Sonni, who played with Dire Straits during the Brothers in Arms tour. Plus, Clapton played with Dire Straits during the warm-up concert (see YouTube), so I think it was "pretty well planned" ;-)

  • I was at the concert, i lived in london. What i like about these kind of conerts is that all musicians form groups and play together and it's simply wonderful and amazing. you could see also Phil collins play for the bee gees and so on. here is EC playing with Dire Straits. Just the best!

  • i heard every live version of the song and i can tell that this is the BEST...Chris White's solo...almost made me cry...if that doesn't happen to everybody who listens to this for the first time then he isn't human, that's what I say

  • 18 anys tenia quant vaig veure aquest concert, inovidable !!!

    Salut

  • I was there. Clapton and Knopler together. Takes me back

  • Pity about the weak sound.

  • musical genius.....

dont make em like this no more.......

  • My god, this is one of the most magic performances I have ever seen

  • Incredible saxophone solo!

It seems like a lot of musicians are on the verge of crying by the end of this... and probably the entire audience...That's how you know a song is good...when even the musicians are moved by it!

  • Indeed DS's best live performance ever! Love this song since i watched the concert on tv those days. Chris White's Sax solo is brilliant!

  • Best version EVER Thanks for posting this,I was actually at this concert 1988..Brings back memories.

  • Man, what a song. The last verse is unbelievable; you can almost see Mark realize that this is the best they ever performed the song.

"All I do is miss you..." There's just such a palpable sense of resigned defeat and surrender. What a songwriter.

  • @ErnieDanzigYEAH well said and I completely agree.

  • It's some sax solo, isn't it? Chris White is just class!

  • Thx for posting this wonderful song. DS's best live-performance ever, especially because of Chris White's wonderful sax-solo...
