  • 9 people have no appreciation of incredible acting

  • This is exactly how I feel. I love how almost every other Fresh Prince moment, Will is ridiculing Uncle Phil and they're at each other's necks. It demonstrates how love always prevails over hatred.

  • my dad left me when I was young Im like 18 yrs old now and damn I havent seen him since....

  • this breaks my heart...

  • i feel like if my son's father keeps going on the way he is, in 14 years this is gonna be my son

  • @tkochica so ur a bad father?

  • @Pineapple0Production You obviously didn't read my comment correctly

  • fuck the hat!

  • :(

  • This scene always brings tears to my eyes and send shivers down my spine, thats how powerful this is!

  • Like this if you cry everytime.

  • Makes me cry like a bitch, every time.

  • The father figure will always talked about was his step father, his real father left him. Either way, brilliant scene!!! So powerful, always get me at the "why he don't want me" line

  • this wasn't even in the script to begin with, Will just expressed himself to his actual father & how he tried to come around when he became famous, he was just suppose to get mad and leave but instead it turned to this.. the hug was NOT in the script either.

  • the part that starts to make me cry is when he says "how come he dont want me man?"

  • Such a STRONG message, yet so sad!

  • Damn, almost 150.000 views. Thanks all =)

  • that makes me cry!!!!!!!!!

  • i loooooooooooooooooove that show!

  • Oh, so this is the REAL story, all about how, his life got flip turned upside down...

  • Just to say, in real life his dad did leave him,and after he got famouse, the dad came back in his life; like if nothing happened. In this scene he obviously had lines memorised but at some point he actually didnt even follow the script, he was saying it from the heart. The the hug from his 'uncle' was a real sincere hug! and he was really crying, so this wasnt even acting,it was real.

  • Wikipedia isn't always right. Anyone can write and change that

  • so damn good

  • Will Smith’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was a child. Will co-wrote this episode, and James Avery said “this scene was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to shoot in my life. Every emotion, every word.. that was Will." Will was actually supposed to play it off and walk away, but he cut-out what was supposed to be said, and did all of his own dialogue. The hug at the end of this scene is completely genuine.

  • @kenziecaffrey Thats not true please go and read wikipedia and listen to will smith interviews. His parents did separate when he was 13 years old but his father was very much involved with his growing up. Please do your research next time before you post incorrect information.

  • @kenziecaffrey trueee, i heard of that too, i posted the same comment and then after i saw yours..

  • Thats just acting at its best!

  • O.m.g. the acting was superior in here. Uncle phil was a wonderful father figure

  • Such a powerful scene...Will Smith was acting his ass off.Makes me cry everytime!!!

  • omg im crying right now

  • he may have been an evil genius, but Shredder was a great father-figure!!!

  • he calls him lou because he doesnt want to call him dad because of what he is doing. A way that makes sure the dad knows will upset and angry not because he's not he's real dad

  • man this gets me every time. This is talent!

  • this is an insanely powerful scene.....having a father figure in your life can be one of the most important variables to setting you up for life....also..at 1:36 when Phil takes off will's hat...you can hear someone in the audience cry...this is truly a painfully sad and true clip that can relate to an alarming amount of kids in the world...

  • Saddest acting ive ever seen, no film has ever made me cry before, but I came pretty damn close watching this...

  • This is such a great scen. Will is such an amazing actor. The best actors can put themselves into the situation and cry, and make their audience cry with them. I give Will a lot of credits for this scen, it's so amazing!

  • I cry every single time when he says how come he dont want me D': Aches my heart to hear it..

  • Cry every time I watch this!

  • Tearing up damnit... but this is so relatable. Wish people would think how they're affecting others before they make decisions like Lou did.

  • I'ma marry me a beautiful honey and I'm gonna have me a whole bunch of kids and then I'm gonna produce me a remake of da Karate Kid so MY kid can star in it and then my daughter gon' be on TV whippin' her hayuh back 'n' fo'... I'ma be a better father than he EVER was!

  • Gets me every time..

  • saddest momentever on tv, im blubbering like a baby :'(

  • Best scene :(

  • THE VIDEO IS NOT ABOUT THE STATUE! -_-

  • Actually Will's dad did leave him in real life...So all you idiots saying his dad was there throughout his childhood are wrong, my mom actually went to high school with him.

  • @TheFuckingWheaties That's a lie that needs to die.

"Smith was raised by his parents in West Philadelphia. Smith credits his father's dedication when discussing his own involvement in the lives of his three children: "I look at my father and how he was able to keep four kids fed and clothed and still managed to find time to spend with us."

From wikipedia, People magazine, and a trillion other places.

  • @ashamartin No, that was his step-dad, get your facts straight. Find his Dad and ask him then tell me that his life is a lie that needs to die.

  • @TheFuckingWheaties "Smith says his father, WILLARD, who with wife Caroline raised the actor and his three siblings in West Philadelphia, inspires him to be an involved dad. "

From the same People article that wikipedia links.

Highly doubt his stepfathers name is "Willard." Let it go. Will's real father was always in his life.

  • Did anyone notice the illuminati pyramid at the end those are everywhere.

  • @RickAstley56 Thats the purpose

  • @RickAstley56 DURHERP ILLuMNATI HERP DERp no there is no Illuminati.

  • @iBladeV4L Yeah and Americans have rights.

  • @RickAstley56 We've got bacon, that's all I'm concerned about

  • @RickAstley56 i did damn faggots

  • @RickAstley56 did you notice that rickastley in the comments, hes everywhere, you can find him hidden in half the videos on youtube.

  • @debs222 Shut up narcolyptic fartknocker.

  • @RickAstley56 pussy stop conspiracizing on videos, normal people dont give a shit if you think your tv controls you.

  • 1:35 GTFO CAP

  • great acting by will smith

  • i gotta admit (coming from a 23 year old man) this scene was brilliant, everything that will smith put into this was some of the best acting iv seen from him and its so believable (i mean his side not the father thing cos i know it is very real to people) the first time i saw this i nearly cried even though fresh prince was primarily a comedy and it still nearly gets me, fantastic acting on both parts one of my favourite scenes even though its sad

  • I loved this show. The drama was as good as the comedy

  • lyk dis if u cry evertim

  • 1:36 Woman in audience crying.

  • brings me to tears. Every. Single. Time.

  • and Will Smith the serious actor was born...

  • This. Crying. Will put so much power and emotion into this.. knowing where all of this comes from, Will... a whole new respect!

  • even back then you could tell how talented an actor he was and still is :) it doesnt matter how many times i watch it i still bawl every time :(

  • sadest part ever

  • Will Smith :'( ....

  • deep shit...as expected from will smith (the best)

  • Not even funny how much I relate.

  • @MissKappp same

  • just a little backstory:

wills dad abandoned him and his mother when he was young in reality. later he got into showbiz and hid the scar.

this episode was co written by will.

by the time they got to this part, will used his own dialouge, and the guy who plays uncle phil, james avery, states that this episode was probably the most difficult to act out.

will was supposed to walk off script wise., but james avery quicklu grabbed him and they cried together.

  • @livluvdance1 That is bullshit Will Smith said this about his dad: "I look at my father and how he was able to keep four kids fed and clothed and still managed to find time to spend with us."

    Don't bullshit.

  • @livluvdance1 that is completely false wills dad worked as an engineer and his mother and father were together until they separtaed when will was 13.. will actually had a very happy childhood with two parents

  • WIll Smith is an amazing actor in fact he's the best actor EVER!!! I LOVE YOU WILL!!!

  • I love how you see the present but at first you can't really make out what it is. Then at the very end you see what it really represents. That's just really briliant editing. It helpes you understand more of how hopefull the charcater of will was and you understand even more what pain he is going through right in that moment when his father left.

  • @winnetouch Tnx man

  • @matthewgroen not brilliant editing by you haha

  • This is my life my father abandoned me, I always wish it could have been different. I always ask myself what was his reason for not wanting to look after me & protect me when I really needed him in my life & I looked up to him to be there. I've not seen my father since I was 2. I'm 24 now it still, it breaks my heart </3 I relate to this scene so much & I'm crying right now. :'(

  • Comment removed

  • i can sorta relate..

  • Will Smith is an awesome actor.

  • Watch this and go listen to Getting Jiggy with It.

    You'll feel way better.

  • This just proves how great Will Smith is.

I actually have tears dropping down my face right now.

  • It's uncle phil's reaction to Will before he asks "How come he don't want me man?" that sets me off every time...the actor looks like he's trying hard not to cry, even his lip quivers a bit.. you just can't script that

  • :iaintevenmad:

  • :,(

  • Next: Two Guys and a Girl

  • *sniff, sniff - Naw, I ain't cryin`. I'm just sweatin` outta my eyes.

  • This shit STILL makes me tear up even though iv seen it like a million times.

  • what a great acting scene wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will made me cry. I know how that feels With my whole family! No 1 wanted till i met my wife and made my own family now i have 4 beautiful people. Who make me whole. And. Need and depend on me. And actually. Want me !!! I remember the first time i saw this episode. Still gets to me. Everytime!!! ;,(

  • God, that must be the worst feeling in the world...when somebody doesn't want you...when you don't exist to someone... :(

  • wow this was def an emotional scene i fel the same bout my dad now i'm crying while typing.!!

  • I heard that Will's acting was improv for most of this scene.

  • @TomthePineapple I wouldn't be too surprised. this is the kind of stuff you just can't script, you know?

  • went through the same shit..i cant stop crying

  • Shut up, Will.

  • @TwinUzis hey dont say that you dont know how he feels

  • @jflemingification

    Yes, I do, actually.

And it was more of a reference to a different video that used this audio.

  • @TwinUzis oh sorry

  • I thought I was the only one we teared up a bit when watching this scene.. :(

  • lol k

  • wow, deeep stuff. actuallly made me cry...

  • i think this was the scene that showd will can play anyroll

as he has proven he is great as a comedian

    awesome as a hero

and one of the best dramatic actors i have seen

will smith will always be in my top 5

  • Will Smith’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was a child,

Will was actually supposed to play it off and then walk away, and there was originally an alternate scene that was supposed to happen, but he actually completely cut out what was supposed to be said, and did all of his own dialogue. The hug at the end of this scene is completely genuine.

  • @panchitatheturtle Actually, Will said about his father in an interview, "I look at my father and how he was able to keep four kids fed and clothed and still managed to find time to spend with us." His parents separated when he was 13 but it was never implied that his father "left them", as in, he stopped visiting with him.

  • @panchitatheturtle I'm sorry to inform you but Will Smith's father was always in his life. His parents got divorced while he was in high school but his father very much remained in his life. Also, most of if not all of Will's dialogue was mainly improve because the writers were unable to write in the way that Will spoke in the show. But other than that, this is great clip and shows the great acting ability of Will Smith and how he can really pull in peoples emotions.

  • @panchitatheturtle it's funny, because that is completely inaccurate, and you're literally just fishing for attention and comment likes.

  • dont worry son, he'll show up again when your in the NBA

  • This should be given an honour oscar! This is the standard tht should be used in Drama schools. Uncle phil's acting is so emotional as well. I'm just a white British guy that has met Nigerians to Thai to South Africans. I'm quicker to defend african descendents than my own nation. When will we learn we are all flesh and blood?

  • ahh well sad :( poor will

  • Romeo & Juliet? Nah. Titanic? Nah. The Notebook? Nah.

This scene? Yes. Yes, it did make me cry.

  • Im a manly man and I still tear everytime i see this!

  • yeah, @phenlism exact summary.

  • This whole video summarizes everything I feel about my own father. I really miss this show, and not only for the laughs.

  • First time I seen this I cried...seen it again right now and tried not to....dam this is one of my favorite scenes!!!

  • Damn, they don't make shows like this anymore...Fuck Terra Nova

  • This shit is to real. I still cry off this

  • ''why he dont want me man'' made me crazy!

  • damn i never tear up...

  • this was one of my favorite scenes

  • Will was actually supposed to play it off and then walk away, and there was originally an alternate scene that was supposed to happen, but he actually completely cut out what was supposed to be said, and did all of his own dialogue. The hug at the end of this scene is completely genuine, and this was a stepping stone in Will’s career where he started to take on the “do what feels, sounds, and looks right” approach to his acting. This was all Will Smith, the real Will not just the Character

  • I'm tearing up like crazy

  • dam this is hella sad :(

  • cant help but cry everytime i watch this :(

  • This is a True Tear Jerker shit is sad

  • @Saintluci92 Haha, well said

  • its not "to hell with him" at the end, its "how come he don' want me man"

  • I don't care what anybody says even though it not real that would be one of the saddest things I'm sorry for who ever had this happen to them

  • @EliteFalloutPlay It's one of the worst feelings ever. Trust me. It's really like "damn, why DON'T you care."

  • @88lannguyen *sniffle sniffle* can I have an oscar too?

  • At 1:25 if that didnt make u feel something u have no heart... What he said just hurts..

  • @GreatRoscoe that part seriously kills me the most. :(((((

  • IM CRYING~~~~~~~~ OMG WHY ~~~~ WHY .. Oh God T_T

  • If only every kid abandoned by their father or mother at a young age turned out like the Fresh Prince.

  • to anyone who grew/growing up without there father or mother due to there lack of giving a shit. consider it a blessing in disguise, because you were/are better off without someone like that in your life.

  • Damn Speechless

  • Aaaahhhhh so sweet I didn't even laugh for once in a prince of belair moment :)

  • many manly tears were shed

  • UNCLE PHIL

  • Shit my dad never did any of that with me either and I've lived with him my whole life. The only thing I can appreciate is him giving me money every now and then, food, & shelter....

  • @REM44MAG so can i

  • my coworker looking at my funny cause i started crying at my desk

  • 5 people actually had their mom do this to them.

  • @Ecco59 huh that makes no sense

  • Manly tears all up in this...

  • this is for my dad too!!!!

  • Don't forget guys: Two guys & One girl next

  • WHO THE FUCK IS CUTTING ONIONS?!

  • @neocon70 HAHAHAHAH WHEN I READ THIS LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • "how come he don't want me man."

    DAMN.

  • this acting is unbelievable

too bad his acting talent burned out when he got older

  • @rednecktash - his acting in the Pursuit of Happyness was fucking Oscar worthy man

  • @88lannguyen agreed, Seven Pounds was pretty exceptional also.

  • @rednecktash I dunno... Pursuit of Happiness was pretty good.

  • I cried like a bitch.

  • i feel like watching some fresh prince now.

  • story of my life

  • @setkid

Same man. Mine skipped town before I was born. I met my father when I was 16 for the first time. He bailed out within 2 weeks after reassuring from then on out he'd be a part of my life. It took me so long to realize it wasn't me.

  • what a fantastic actor.

  • 4 people have no emotions

  • Apparently this part wasn't even scripted, this was actually Will Smith letting it all out, and the camera kept rolling.

  • @iNinjaTevin

    thats just a rumor

  • Best will smith acting hands down!

  • saw a gif of this on tumblr, had to come and see it (seems like i missed this episode) and i jus got me some goosebumps, wow... it actually hurt me

  • @Telereez Can you send me or us the link of that .gif? I'm curious actually.

  • @Telereez I saw that gif too, and had to come and see what happened X
