  • how many of you who criticize geared powerlifting actually have ever trained for a meet in gear?

    i love raw lifting, many of my goals are raw numbers, but geared lifting is much harder.

    Train for a meet in gear, and when your eyes pop out of your head then you can comment on how these lifters cheat

  • These guys are all strong and this is impressive in its own way. I personally don't like powerlifting unless its raw. But, I guess I'm a little biased being an Olympic style weightlifter.

  • I have to say WESTSIDE is the greatest gym because it has the best lifters (too many to name) and the best teacher Mr. Louie Simmons. Hands down the best in the biz.

  • @brandonlilly3 Powerlifters lack all explosiveness IMO, its all about the gear, moving it for the lights, slow ascendance and descendant, and the form that gives you the shortest range of motion, plus powerlifters are mostly fat fucks, which is never justifiable imo. Oh and more gear and also that kind of gear.

  • @trfitness89 This simply isnt true. Scott Yard is a 1000lb squatter with this style and after converting to raw and full depth he is squatting in the 600s.

  • @secutorclaudius the SUPER wide stances are good for geared lifting which is what they are all doing because it utlizes the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back (posterior chain), and quadraceps where a close stance will utilize only the glutes and quadraceps which wont help you lift as much as doing a wide stance. plus, these guys are lifting in squat briefs/suits so a super wide stance is easier to do with them. fyi, you cant squat as wide RAW as you would in a geared lift.

  • @SmexyPC ah, ok, i know nothing about gear. tried wid(er) squats, but it seems i can't go very low in that position.

  • @secutorclaudius could be sinve yer not used to it and lack of flexibility.also, when squatting wide stance, you need to "sit back" in your squat. mabe thats why you cant go very low beause you didnt sit back. i squat with a wide stance RAW and i can hit deep squats (hips below knees)

  • @secutorclaudius im guessing you're talking about bar position and im assuming you're using the low bar position right? when i first used the low bar position from a high bar, yeah, it was really awkward like i felt as if it was gunna fall off. But it doesnt, unless you have oil on your back LOL... keeping your upper back tight will also help support it. remmeber, a low bar position is when the bar is BEHIND THE REAR DELTS. if yer getting bruises, yer not doin them right at all.

  • @secutorclaudius well man if only i could show u in real life hahahaha but like heres what u can do, watch ed coan, how he sets up before he does a squat. if u dont know who he is, he is a legendary powerlifter. he sorta like puts the barbell like on top of his traps and then he "slides it down" his rear delts. yer gunna have to watch any of ed coan's squat videos to see it. when he "slides it down" it stops when it touches the "shelf" and that shelf is behind the rear delts which is da low bar

  • i just tore my acl playing rugby and had surgery 3 weeks ago... ever since i saw "bigger, stronger, faster" it has been a literal dream of mine to train at westside... you guys are a huge part of my recovery.. plus wanting to play rugby again.. you guys are a great inspiration to me i wish i could get a lifting program from you untill the day im in there becoming the best i can be with yall.. good luck everybody there ill see you one day

  • @ArentWeSpecial The foam allows you to keep sinking into it rather than being a solid stopping point so you have to explode harder to get out of the hole.

  • @iandealer00 The method she is using is a chain squat method. She squatted to the chains which are set at 2 inches high intentionally to allow the body to squat all 3 reps near depth (2 inches), and you pause briefly on the chains which kills momentum. So as far as being ridiculous it may look that way, but this was done with absolute purpose.

  • @iandealer00 in westside you never do the competition way during training. she doesnt go far down, because it is one of several training methods in westside. that way she can put on more weight as usual and also train the lockout
