Well consider the fact that the year prior, Ralph Sampson went #1 and won rookie of the year. NBA teams were still high on big men. Hakeem wasn't a bad choice. Bowie was drafted on potential, but I think we all know how that turned out.

I don't care how many points he made or how many steals or how many MVP he have won. It was what he could do on the court that amazed me most and being able to make a comeback in order to result in Winning games. I'm sorry but Jordan could drive with the basket and the foul. He also been able to clutch so many shots to win games and because of Jordan abilities Karl Malone, john stockton and the Jazz never won a Championship.

@usnate1 Haha. I know :) I was aware of that when I was watching the replays, but he pulled it off so well that it look like that Bryan Russell just slipped. If I was Bryan Russell I would be upset too. I admire MJ abilities to do things that players today cannot do. Which surprises me because you figure since MJ perform it many times on the court, newer generation would try to mimic it and use it on the court.

@usnate1 Its ok. It's the thing of the past. They say "Everything is legal unless you get caught." I doubt the league will wave that championship from MJ now because it's been so long. I am not going to deny MJ skills because he played a little dirty on Bryan Russell. Everything else he have done is still amazing. MJ proven himself worthy of anything and everything. MJ worked hard to get to where his is today. No doubt.

Respond to this video...In spite of all these luxuries afforded to modern players Wilt Chamberlain (who retired 28 years ago) still holds 50 regular season records, many of which are in the untouchable realm. Contrast this with Michael Jordan who in spite of getting more preferential treatment from officials than any other player in history holds a whopping 4 regular season records.

@VinmanMJ23 Yes i agree and then again no. When wilt was even older later on in his career he outrebounded kareem by 21 rpg when they played against eachother. Wilt was Rodman on the boards.. meets Dwight Howard on Defense.. meets shaq on scoring...I agree early in his career it would be hard to judge but how many 7 footers you know that can run better in the 40yd. than most NFL running backs TODAY WITH a 40'' vertical? NO 7 footer in HISTORY in the nba has ever come close to that. Wilt=legit.

Not saying he wasn't great; just pointing out that greatness has alot to do with the era and competition you're in. Isn't it curious that MJ wasn't even considered the GOAT until after magic and larry hung it up? Selling tickets is very easy to do when you have THE ONLY GOAT playing. More Myth than truth.

I second, Chamberlain is the greatest. Scored 100 points in a game in 1962, then led the league in assists in 1968 just to show that he could do it. No further proof needed.

Worst free throw shooter ever and was always at the losing end of his rivalry against Bill Russell. Finally won a championship after he was intructed to stop hounding the offense, averaging a career low 24 ppg. Even w/ Elgin Baylor and Jerry West as his teammates, Wilt couldn't win against the oldest team in the NBA ('69 Celtics), a team w/ a severely injured center (Willis Reed's Knicks), and an aging Oscar Robertson w/ a rookie Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Bucks). BTW, Oscar had a higher apg in 1968.

I meant total, not by average. Still came rather close. Maybe the telling fact I should have mentioned is that he's the only center to place in the top 5 in scoring and assists in the same season, and he did that in back-to back seasons to boot. All because he knew he could show his critics that he wasn't one-dimensional. You can't tell Dwight Howard, hey along with your 20 points and 15 rebounds a night, get 8 dimes every game too.

LBJ would score less than today. Since MJ left, the NBA has altered the rules to benefit perimeter players more than ever to make them look better than they actually are.

Handchecking is now banned. Defensive players are not allowed to clog the lane for 3 seconds. Virtually any perimeter contact results in a foul for the defender. FTA of today's top scorers are equal or higher to MJ's, despite less possessions today.

All these changes occurred in this decade. MJ would destroy today's NBA.
