I am a young guitarist whom aspires to be as good as this god. here is my tribute song, i made it not for money or for prophit, but beacuse i love music and jason becker helped me undestand and ust that love :) "Andres Rodriguez Angel on earth"
i recently saw a cnn broadcast on youtube from a few years back with jason in it and even the news said he would of been the next jimi hendrix if he hadnt been struck down with als so recognition at last for jason first time ive seen a news broadcast about him he should of been noticed years ago before he was ill
@321asker123 Sorry, maybe he should apologize to you of all people for actually practicing and learning music theory and spending 10 hours a day practicing. As opposed to Jimi who found it perfectly fine to play whatever the fuck he wanted with no basis of theory. Jason's ten thousand times the guitarist Jimi would ever have been.
@YngtchieMusic He probably would. Jimi was clearly innovative for the time, but Jason has easilly surpassed him technically and compositionally. You can say Becker is ripping off of Bach, Vivaldi, Paganini... But then again, who isn't?
@NailsForDinner First of all, it's not a competition. Second, Hendrix and Becker played different kinds of music, so comparing them like that is silly.
Third, many Becker fans have a tendency to get very, very preachy about him, refusing to accept that he is any less than flawless as a musician. This does him no favors, and I doubt he would think much of people comparing him to various composers, saying he's a million times more advanced than Hendrix, etc.
there were more technical players than Hendrix while he was alive, Beckers clearly superior in that regard, that goes without saying...but Hendrix was the more gifted composer/artist; I thought everybody knew that? Jason wasn't a bad artist but its not like he's sitting on any masterpieces, I hesitate to even call him a composer.
@daljin1991 This is a very absurd statement. Go listen to Serrana, Life & Death, Empire, Electric Prayer For Peace, End of the Beginning... The musical quality and thought put into those is so much greater than the pieces Hendrix wrote. Don't get me wrong, I like Hendrix, but Jason showed Japanese, French, Classical, Blues, Jazz (just to name a few) influences in his music. Jimi just played the blues (granted Jason grew up in a time with more exposure & technology).
@Blaine465 That's because there weren't as many black mainstream musicians out there. Hell, there weren't even that many musicians at all out there. Jimi may have brought music into pop culture, but musically speaking Becker's arrangements are a combination of many many techniques, sounds, styles. Let's compare the variety of arpeggios, scales, chord progressions, etc. of Perpetual Burn to the sloppy minor blues that Hendrix put out.
@NailsForDinner Complexity isn't a basis for better musicianship. Hendrix's "sloppy" Minor Blues has inspired a great majority of today's legendary guitarists. It wasn't that he was black either, I'm offended that you would point out his color in a debate about music, it's sad really. Ask Joe Satriani about who was his greatest influence, ask Vai, ask them all. If he isn't their greatest influence, he is an influence. But hey, I guess your opinion matters over successful musicians.
@Blaine465 Korn has inspired tons of bands. System of a Down, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, and the list goes on... so that makes Korn good? Well it sure makes them original, but I'd never want to listen to that shit. And unless you are a successful musician, why do you think your opinion matters over mine?
And I only brought the skin color into this because that was unheard of for the time. It's the same reason Heart was popular.
@NailsForDinner I only brought his cleanliness up because you mentioned technique, in which case, he was sloppy. None of those bands even come close to how many Great <--*key* musicians that Jimi inspired. And I never said that my opinion mattered over yours, if anything you've been displaying those characteristics in recent discussion. Those bands popularized certain genres; Jimi invented certain Genres.
@Blaine465 its not that he is sloppy. its his playing style. he can play very clean if he wants to. its just his spin on things to make it feel grungy. its part of his era for things to be outlandish and off.
@NailsForDinner Not to mention, Jimi basically created sooo many music genres it's rediculous. To say that he was just a blues player is an understatement.
@jakethegimp2 man do you watch a wrong vid and comment here. JASON BECKER IS THE BEST OF GUITARIST OF ALL TIME NOBODY CAN T PLAY SO FAST and the arpeggios were perfect you dream to play that
It's the same chord progressions as little wing, with heavy metal strum and a lot of noodling. Quite genius actually, if you can't hear it then :/ I feel sorry for your ears.
if you know much about music, you can hear it in the modes that he plays. it is over the same progression of little wing. you just have to know what your listening for.
poor jason these days. I think his disease came from musical- burn-out- syndrome or someething. there is scientific evidencs that you can overtrain your brain causing your brain to stagnate in different things. i think there is some link between jason's disease and his superhuman skills on guitar because of over motivation and practising the brain to overload......
@Kamus1952 soul, heart, and feeling is always thought of as some great player like SRV playing slow, long sutained note melodies. ive always thought that soul, heart and feeling should be thought of as just the way someone is expressing themselve on guitar.
Haha that's what I thought. I'm thinking he's about 5'10 or more because he was around the same height as Jimmy Page when he stood next to Marty. I don't know. Ask Jason on his message board.
The first time I watched this video, I didn't hear it. It's because Jason does a lot of improvising. But if you listen to Little Wing and come back to this video, you'll hear it.
@ricktoney1 I bet many came here to hear little wing played by jason and then firstly got disapointed. Then in the first thirty seconds theese same got overwhelmed by his awesomeness..
