@YngtchieMusic He probably would. Jimi was clearly innovative for the time, but Jason has easilly surpassed him technically and compositionally. You can say Becker is ripping off of Bach, Vivaldi, Paganini... But then again, who isn't?

@NailsForDinner First of all, it's not a competition. Second, Hendrix and Becker played different kinds of music, so comparing them like that is silly.

Third, many Becker fans have a tendency to get very, very preachy about him, refusing to accept that he is any less than flawless as a musician. This does him no favors, and I doubt he would think much of people comparing him to various composers, saying he's a million times more advanced than Hendrix, etc.

Just dig the music for what it is.

there were more technical players than Hendrix while he was alive, Beckers clearly superior in that regard, that goes without saying...but Hendrix was the more gifted composer/artist; I thought everybody knew that? Jason wasn't a bad artist but its not like he's sitting on any masterpieces, I hesitate to even call him a composer.

Hendrix was a GuitArtist.

@daljin1991 This is a very absurd statement. Go listen to Serrana, Life & Death, Empire, Electric Prayer For Peace, End of the Beginning... The musical quality and thought put into those is so much greater than the pieces Hendrix wrote. Don't get me wrong, I like Hendrix, but Jason showed Japanese, French, Classical, Blues, Jazz (just to name a few) influences in his music. Jimi just played the blues (granted Jason grew up in a time with more exposure & technology).

Jimi may have brought music into pop culture, but musically speaking Becker's arrangements are a combination of many many techniques, sounds, styles. Let's compare the variety of arpeggios, scales, chord progressions, etc. of Perpetual Burn to the sloppy minor blues that Hendrix put out.

@NailsForDinner Complexity isn't a basis for better musicianship. Hendrix's "sloppy" Minor Blues has inspired a great majority of today's legendary guitarists. It wasn't that he was black either, I'm offended that you would point out his color in a debate about music, it's sad really. Ask Joe Satriani about who was his greatest influence, ask Vai, ask them all. If he isn't their greatest influence, he is an influence. But hey, I guess your opinion matters over successful musicians.

And I only brought the skin color into this because that was unheard of for the time. It's the same reason Heart was popular.

None of those bands even come close to how many Great <--*key* musicians that Jimi inspired. And I never said that my opinion mattered over yours, if anything you've been displaying those characteristics in recent discussion. Those bands popularized certain genres; Jimi invented certain Genres.
