All of these years have passed, and Johnny Carson still sets the standard. Spontaniously funny, the best moments were the f ups, and Johnny would give the audience that look, and there was laughter in bedrooms from coast to coast. What better gift could a man give to us , than laughter after a hard days work .R.I.P. Johnny.
Many kudos to you for getting this out to more people. I got to see Johnny live in Chicago in 1976 after failing to see him on a 1975 Tonight Show I had a seat for (Joey Bishop hosted)-I consider myself lucky.
Peter forgot that in between marriages, when Johnny had an attactive single female guest on the show, he'd often would take them out for dinner after the show was taped. His dates included Angie Dickenson, Dyan Cannon and Sally Field.
I can't believe that Letterman compared Johnny Carson to a bum like Regis Philbin. Regis never was funny, and certainly not in the same league as Johnny by a mile. Regis is Soooo boring!
I think it's amazing that in 30 years Johnny never ate in front of anyone that worked on the show.
Although I do remember on one show that Johnny said that he was having dinner that night after the show with Dr. Lendon Smith, who was on the show that night and was a regular guest on the show, despite Peter Lassally saying that Johnny never had dinner with the guests.
I am so jealous of that man. Imagine being in the wings watching Johnny Carson every night for so much of his career. What a marvelous time he must have had.
is that the same damn tanya roberts that ended up in the flic A View to a Kill??? I remember seein that flic and shouting at the movie screen to james bond, as he hung onto her arm off the golden gate, DROP THE BITCH!! PLEASE DROP THE BITCH!!! SHE CAN'T ACT!! anytime tanya roberts was on screen in the truly bad flic of a view to a kill, great music and song by the way, the damn flic would come to a fucking halt.

Mann, this truly reminds of what Television should be about. The history, the classic, the Heavyweights!

A classic talkshow icon of today paying tribute to his mentor - only like Dave could- with elegance and humor.
