The 3500 left so late... if he gets up to 120MPH in the 1/4 mile, he should be in the low-mid 11's easily. He just bogged and left in 2nd gear. Or even w/ all his brake-boosting, his turbo(s) weren't spooled yet. Either way, you can see a good 1/2 second or more after the light goes green before he launches.

The soot in diesel exhaust is a leading cause of lung cancer. Most modern gas engines are so clean that they will actually clean the air of a polluted urban environment. Even the new "clean" diesels aren't as clean as gas engines.

True,If you're close enough, but the real polluting element in diesel fuel was the sulfur, which has all but been take out ULSD has a sulfur content of 15PPM, compared to low sulfur diesel @ 500 PPM. Old diesel fuel was off the charts. Most of the black smoke is carbon (coal) which is harmless (unless inhaled in large amounts, for long periods of time, coal miners & black lung). If you watch, it dissapates quickly.

HAHA wow this is bringin back some memories, the truck in the left lane is me and this was in baytown like 4 years ago. The dually is Jeff Prince and he was the fastest truck in Texas at the time I had NO clue when we lined up. This was bracket racing and the first heat. I actually started out in 2nd gear, not first. I did about a 2200 rpm clutch launch.

2nd gear start is fine if you're not towing. The truck in the left lane started in 1st gear. Ooops! That's why you start off in 2nd in these trucks, unless you're pulling a sled on the dirt track, or heavy towing.
