  • Not the best sound quality on this vid, but I love the Ventures.

I recorded my own version on my channel

Check it out if you get the time

  • the sound is very bad!! :-(

  • haven't heard PIPELINE in years... still gives me goose bumps!!

  • You may like my video of a waterpark with some EXTREME riders, all set to the music of the Ventures, at Dixie Landin v=qM7wIFU99r0

  • Good guy !!

  • the chantays did the real pipeline not ventures who did the remake most times the origanal is best.

  • @NicroticSouls

You don`t know good music when you hear it, why don`t you go down to a basement and maybe it will collapse.

  • YUP!!!!

  • Thanks to the Chantay's for writing this song great surf tune

  • still great after all these years! Fantastic!

  • what year was this??

  • Old guys still rock!

  • Chyaaaaa Brah!!! We just hit some Gnarly waves!!!!! I think once The surf's Up we're gonna Go bottom's Up on some 7 Up and Chili Dogs at the Boardwalk!!!! Peace Out dudes!!!!

  • ventures the gods of guitar and drums

  • This sounds pretty good, in spite of the simple recording situation (camera mic?). With the right miking and mixing it would be great.

  • NO LIE DON WILSON IS MY GREAT UNCLE! His wife is my mom's aunt. Really cool guy! Visited me here in Japan. Going to his concert in January I think in Yokohama or Tokyo.

  • I GOT A "58" LES PAUL JR TV YELLOW SINGLE CUTAWAY. ITS LIKE BUTTER.....

  • hey thanks for that man!!!,put me on a trip,,SRV,,JH,,AK,,BG,,allmost burned the chicken&rice,,hahaha

  • @ThomasDeLello Not using Mosrites for this performance. Nokie was playing a Hitchhiker; Don a Wilson Bros.; Skunk Baxter not sure (someone chime in with ID).

  • @TuneFan Skunk Baxter was playing a custom Strat with Skunk-O-Matic pickups. If you look at my YouTube site, you can see him playing this guitar at Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp. I was in his band!

  • @Farbocaster @taximan55 @HilshireDemina Thanks for IDing

what Jeff Baxter was using that night to play Pipeline with The Ventures. Lot of great (and smart) TuneFans out there!

  • @TuneFan You're quite welcome.

  • @Farbocaster Now that you made my memory jog, I can see that it is a Strat. I was almost sure he was playing a Mustang. My band played a lot of the instrumental songs because our voices were still changing.lol Those were the days!

  • @TuneFan A stratocaster for Skunk

  • @TuneFan Jeff's playing a Strat or Strat copy. Looks like a Fender, but too far away to tell.

  • @TuneFan G&L?

  • @ThomasDeLello not even, mosrites are pretty damn nice

  • @ThomasDeLello Depends who's playin it. Hendrix, Nokie and Curt Cobain did OK with 'em

  • @ThomasDeLello for some reason alot of people think there the greatest thing in the world, but i agree with you

  • but were neat

  • @ThomasDeLello I see your not a fan of live music. lol

  • @ThomasDeLello These are not Mosrite they are Wilson Brothers guitars

  • @ThomasDeLello It's not the guitar, but the one who yields them. I have an old Gibson. But I can't make it sing like the VENTURES. (That Gibson was my dad's. It' over 50 years old). My dad is gone. That ghuitar is all I wanted. I miss my dad. (Maybe I'll tell you about when he was in the Ukkrainian underground). If your interisted. =Stefan=

  • @ThomasDeLello you know, a mosrite can go for 4 grand

  • @ThomasDeLello They are actually very good guitars. Kurt Cobain, Johnny Ramone.

  • @ThomasDeLello ....I agree...Fender Rules !!....AND amps.

  • @ThomasDeLello if its good enough for hendrix n kobain u cant say shit

  • Too loud for mycrophon :(

  • One of the most famous numbers played by the Ventures, reminds me about my younger days, the sound of this particular number makes me so nostalgic.

Can someone please provide me the video or mp3 of the number "INDIAN SUN" played by The Ventures, I'm searching for the same, for last many a years.

  • just fucking outstanding,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there is NOTHING has has any value of the shit of today,,,,,,,,,,

  • dude this quality does no justice

  • all the music that has gone into thin air,,stuf never recorded that would blow your mind,, and you bet I agree with every posi comment on this great great American band...

  • @zenbooter The Ventures have influenced so many artists in all music genres, it is amazing. Skunk Baxter just rocked it out with the group that night and in particular on Pipeline!

  • I just love this old man music !!

  • pure surfer music..... surf's up ventures!

  • the best thanks for posting

  • Just brilliant....

  • Outstanding Video!!

    THUMB'S UP!!

  • Bob Bogle you will be and are missed thanks for the memories and rest in peace my friend. ROCK ON

  • gud n ok all the best

  • god you gotta love the ventures i do i love surf music

  • Ventures.......never Dies...!

  • Great!!

  • Yeah, maybe the quality of the sound was bad, but we still got it!Awesome job, guys....!!!

  • Classic

that made me almost spill my Guinness

  • The camera's bad quality makes the guitar sound even cooler. haha

  • great song...great band...great time....watch too The Jet Blacks and The Jordans ( brazilian bands) making this versions...very great too...

  • Awesome sound. Too bad the quality is low.

  • i met & cooked for these guys.. whats this sitting down chit .. where's nokie??

  • the ventures are a badass group man I dig that shit

  • Listen to the guitar player .. this is just as good??? Boogie - Jukka Kinnunen

  • the most badass sound ever.

  • Check this version -- same song.

The Chantays - Pipeline (Lawrence Welk Show 5/18/63)

  • I'm into hard rock and heavy metal (70's & 80's mostly), but I just love this shit. Surf rock is so cool. Love that vibrato.

  • Hey man, you're not the only one - me born in 12//69!

  • a lot of guys played the ventures while drag racing down the boulevard.

  • How dumb are people? Amazing! Obviously it's overloading the camera's mic....duh. As if The Ventures decided to go for a real shitty digital over driven tone....obviously a very good performance. The dumbness never stops.

  • The original Pipeline was written and played by "The Chantays" out of Santa Ana high school in southern California in 1963. Surf music forever!

  • Great!!

  • What is it with all the negative comments?? This was shot with someone's camera in the audience, not a professional studio, a live performance by a great band having fun. I would love to see them in concert still, and thanks for posting this, Tunefan.

  • Thanks KalahariKAri, and thanks to all the Ventures fans out there! They really knocked it out that night on this particular song, with Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter adding a lot to it.

  • Here are the lyrics:

    ""

  • Does anyone know the words to this song? Just kidding, grew up with this music and loved Pipeline.

  • almost as good as sleepwalk ;)

  • god save them

  • No hay comparación entre el sonido de las Mosrite y el de estas guitarras: este "ticky ticky" no tiene nada que ver con el sonido reverberante y nada metálico de aquellas. ¡Tiempos pasados, que le llaman!

  • great and so relaxing!

  • you all are the greatest, hands down! I grew up listening to the Ventures music and they get better and better. The 60's would not have been the same without them!

  • you just cant beat a bit of surf guitar.....

  • it is so great!! what a pity that this version is cut. anyone has full song from this gig? i`d love to listen to this.

  • Anthrax version rox !!

  • wow very good

  • Ventures has so much wonderful energy with this song. Love love love Pipeline by the Ventures, just makes you want to dance.

  • Ventures rock, they never got the real credit they deserved. I love love love the Ventures. All I can say is awesome.

  • Pipeline....only with The Chantay's,the original record.The best.....

  • Although it is hard to beat The Chantays listen to there cover of this song on surfing with the ventures is it is great. and I think you will like it.

  • Your right its better

  • RIP Bob, thanks for a wild ride and wonderful tones..

  • So this is what happened to the Ventures... they can still play like ever. Rock on boys!

  • Hey, thanks for this video! The Ventures have played the Birchmere for the past 3 years and I was there in '06 & '08 but missed '07 due to work (had the tickets too!). So, I didn't get to see Skunk Baxter sit in with the band. (@$%&*#!)

Have met these guys on 4 occasions, last time at EPCOT '09. They're the WORLD'S GREATEST INSTRUMENTAL BAND, still on fire after 50 yrs.

RIP, Bob Bogle & Mel Taylor.

    NCIRLFAN, aka Mosrite87

  • Well Mosrite87, you got to see them again in '10 and they are still on fire. But gotta say that night with Skunk Baxter sitting in was really special, and they really blew it out on Pipeline.

  • @ncirlfan You must be joking! They are awful

  • @Tubbyduff No, they're not awful. The video is somewhat raw and distorted, but there's nothing awful about the band. Maybe you will be able to play this well when you're past age 75, but I'll be surprised if I just make past 75.

  • @ncirlfan They are probably The US's greatest instrumental band, but The Shadows will give them a run for their money. Too many times you Yanks ignore the rest of the world and then proclaim anything US as the worlds greatest. Sorry for the rant, and I do like the Ventures.

  • @txpommie No intent to slight The Shads here. I have Shadows on CD too, but betwixt the two, I prefer the sound of the classic line-up of The Ventures from the mid-60's with Bogle, Wilson, Taylor, & Edwards. I think their albums have long proclaimed them as "No. 1 Instrumental Band in The World" and elsewhere as "The Most Popular Instrumental Band of All Time". I'll leave to you to interpret the "No. 1" in whatever context you like.

  • @ncirlfan Exactly what I mean about Yanks being insular. How many hits have the Ventures had outside the US vs the Shadows? You can prefer who you like but if you are going to proclaim someone as being #1 in the world, you have to look to the rest of the World. Life exists outside the USA.

  • @ncirlfan Disagrree.

The Shadows where first and the greatest ever.

Much better as The Ventures ever has been.

Even the final tour of The Shadows has a high professional and musical level.

Can not say the same from those old Ventures who has permission leave their old folks home for a short while.

  • @jasper4839 .... seems like you don't know much. you knock the ventures by saying "cannot say the same for those old ventures who has permission to leave their old folks home". we all age jerkoff.... is it their fault? btw, the shadows don't even come close. surf's up loser!

  • that darn Nokie man, he is 489 years old and is still rockin

  • Great preformance, who gives a fuck whos song this is. This goddam it are the Ventures. Blow me.

  • this is a great fuckin' version of a great motherfucking song.

  • This song will go down in history as one of the greatest surf and rock tunes ever. I love this song.

  • yeah i was there on the beach a few years ago... but sitting down to play this >>>????

  • danced to it played by the band whose tune it was, the chantays, from santa ana high. fun fun fun (it's on youtube when they played it on lawrence welk, whom i hated)

  • @hannah4peace Thanks for your reply I couldn't stand Lawrence Welk either but my mother liked the music and she bought the TV so we my brother and I had to listen to him if we wanted to watch TV later that night and I did See the Chantays on that program so That was one time I was glad i watched.

  • Lol at the drummer in an army of guitars.

  • its interesting to see the ventures influence on japanese music, especially in old Japanese Nintendo games

  • I'm curious where do you hear the influence in old Nintendo games? (I don't doubt it)

  • play super dodge ball for nes and u will see

  • this is before nintendo

  • retard

  • jeez this song has been around way befofe nintendo

  • yeah idiot he was saying that this influenced nintendo. he knew that, everybody knew that. and besides technically the company nintendo has been around since before 1900 making playing cards and stuff, so get it straight

  • Grew up in the sixties too bad it was saskatchewan canada. the best.compcamp76

  • compcamp76, I drove through Saskatchewan in November, 2003, and it was so peaceful and quiet! (Canada One)

I have lived in Vancouver for over 30 years and I am sick of the big city. Perpetual machine noise. I just might retire to small town Saskatchewan. (after a few years in Europe, of course)

  • This music has it all. 007 would have this in his CD player......I know i have !

    Teriffic.....

  • James Bond was not partial to ANY rock music. He made disparaging remarks about the Beatles.

  • I bet our man Flint would have dug this though!

  • Somebody wrote, "This music has it all. 007 would have this in his CD player"

Sorry, Igotbadjoints, but Ian Fleming's James Bond (007) hated rock music.

  • Just my Imagination...It`s real driving music though....!

  • God I remember when my brother saved up for weeks to buy this record. I've heard this song a million times & will never get tired of it.

  • This is a legendary band that I absolutely love.

  • plis . si alguien tiene la melodia de mc coy subanla es muy bonita saludos a todos

  • Great musicianship and te movement just ke.eps flowing. Linda Joy Adams aka alexisdaughter

  • One of my very favs. I like it better than the earier renditions. Tempo is great and it keeps movin' and flowin' Great thinkin' music if you're one who 'thinks in motion.'

  • Surfing would be nothing without these guys

  • Thank you for pointing out the obvious. The Ventures also wrote many good songs but yes, they do covers. The original Pipeline can't touch this cover.

  • I probably watched this 50 time and it never gets old. Such a wicked sound, probably their best ever. This is the way surf guitar should sound loud, powerful, with attacks from several guitars. It's a shame the end was cut short.

  • wow, sound like they have improved their live performances. Too bad the camera speaker doesn't do it justice.

  • Love it!!!!!!!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • bitchen

  • good

  • Original awesomeness.

  • it's godd every time

  • Classic Masterpiece!!!

  • Wicked: Nastiest version I ever heard! Nokie and Skunk were on big time and the timing and sound is way too cool to be true!

  • Old guys rule. Great music, anytime.

  • old kings

  • yup, old guys, still kicking butt !!

  • locking older playin`n better....

  • The Army of Guitars!! Wonderful and great! Not is better! Good old years!!

  • The Army of Guitars!! Wonderful and great! Not is better! Good old years!!

  • best head music ever.

  • Welcome to the Hall of Fame.....you've been ignored too long.

  • Look at that beautiful Morse guitar!

  • That's Jeff "Skunk" Baxter on the far right.

  • Jeff's been on the 'far right' for some years now! ;^)

  • same style also listen to the shadows hank marvin is great

  • the ventures, because of this band i learned to play electric guitar, and have been playing all my life they put the electric sound into rock and roll guitar music.

  • i had my first rock and roll band when i was 8 years old and when we would play, wipe out and pipline, the neighborhood would be rocking we always had alot of fun in the early sixties.the bands had alot of talent in those days

  • None Better.........Rock on Guys!!!

  • how many of the original members in this?

  • The rhythm and the lead are originals. The drummer is the son of the drummer from their classic line-up, and the bass player has played with them on and off for at least 20 years.

  • ci chłopacy grali bardzo ładnie przeróbki szlagierów, m.inn. "oczy czarne" i inne, ale nie mogę tego trafić.

  • SUPER !! !! !!

  • hi everyone, the music in the link below is so similar to this sound but I could not find it anywhere..please help..

    watch?v=9kaI5JdJlKo

  • YES! I had a Music Minus One thing of Ventures stuff. Vinyl LP. Taught you all three parts: lead, rhythm, and bass. Walk Don't Run was one, Tequilla maybe, some others. It was great. I loved it. I wanted Pipeline and Diamond Head so bad! I looked and looked, but never found them on a similar LP. So I had to learn them myself.

  • I remember the album that when opened there was this girl in a gold bikinie.'MAN!"..THAT WAS AN ALBUM..TAUGHT YOU HOW TO PLAY THERE TUNES TO..ANYONE HAVE IT?

  • yes i do it was there greatest hits album.

  • Brings back memories, fabulous!

  • My boyfriend and I watched this together. Here is the dialog that followed

BF: "I would go see them"

    GF: "..me too."

BF: "I would pay lots of money to see them."

    GF: "...Me too."

    *kiss*

    .. heh.

    Yay Ventures!

  • Is that Jeff Baxter on the far right? Great sync playing all around.
