Combined with Rose's horrid idiocy, Guest is a notoriously tough interview. For example, critic Warren Etheredge described him as "rude, condescending and intolerable." I'd say CG restrained himself a great deal in this particular interview.

I thought the interview was great. The concept of the actors in his movies functioning as jazz musicians improvising is brilliant. It's exactly what I was feeling about these semi-improvised movie projects. Great stuff. I hope Chris is working on another... He's an incredible talent.

Charlie Rose is actually very good with more intellectual guests. It's like he doesn't know how to find a hook with with Guest here. He acts here like he's *heard* of humor; he's heard of this social phenomenon of people *laughing*; and he's interested in it. But that he doesn't actually participate in jocularity.

Yes, Charlie Rose is a douche. But I get irritated when people choose to go on the show then act condescending to him. There is no need for Guest to be so self-serious. He says he "doesn't do these things" and it is probably because Guest sucks as a guest. Love his movies, but heard he is an ass. He is.

Seriously though, listen to question Rose starts off with. It's so absurd and impossible to answer and possibly a little bit insulting that Guest doesn't know what to say for a second. The obvious answer would be "what the fuck are you talking about that doesn't make sense" but Guest handles it and sort of has to talk down to answer the questions reasonably.

If you see "For Your Consideration" there is an obvious bit sticking it to Charlie Rose. The joke is that the Charlie Rose character won't shut up and let the interviewee talk. I think guest really hated this interview.

I love this guy. Top notch among other masters of wit like Robert Smigel, Rowan Atkinson and Phil Hartman...why did they delete the song "The Mighty River" (long ten minute oddysey of the river flooding the town)...it's touching, and hilarious! Check that out in the DVD deleted scenes..
