  • This would have worked great on the Binaural album. It literally sounds like a missing track from that album to me, even though I know it was released years before. Has that dark, low-key but sonically enveloping aesthetic. Lost Dogs is full of wonderful gems.

  • Is this song about the "Alabama 3"... The guys that were freed from jail a few weeks ago?? Good for them!!! Eddie fought REALLY hard for those guys !!!

  • hey check out my version of Dead Man, really looking for some feedback hopfully positive but i cant take hate mail too :)

  • UFO? It's about a man on death row.

  • This song is so dark and eerie. A true masterpiece from pearl jam that could of easily been an A-side its a shame its so under rated.

  • Love it

  • You sure that's Ed? OMFG!!!! Woah........

  • I love this band!

  • Also appears on live No Fu*kin Messiah Volume 2 CD, a collection of 2005 tour cuts, all are awesome, it's a must own PJ disc, if still available, it's "Oxygen CDs"

  • Pearl Jam is the the voice of god!!!!!!!

  • @HappyBirthdaySANTA god of voice better.

  • This is a beautiful retrospective on life, and what happens within a UFO phenomena contact....Simply Beautiful

  • @Dman700p I just searched for this after listening to UFO, Eddie Vedder, no doubt, a big Who fan, he should help promote British band UFO as well

  • This is absolutely chilling. Real beauty in darkness.

  • i'm attached to this song. it makes me think about life for a long time. very dark, chilling, but very powerful at the same time. just my kind of song!

  • This is amazing!

  • Thanks for postin' gargantuan, this song calls for some deep introspection. Also it motivated me to watch the movie, which was amazing.

  • btw, it's not called dead man walking. that's bruce springsteen's song, 'dead man walkin'. the song is called 'dead man'. just sayin'

  • What difference does it make? Really?

  • Just saying. Sorry if I sound like an ass. Pearl Jam rule!

  • No worries, and yeah, Pearl Jam rule! That's why I stick these tunes up: to get them heard, to spread the gospel that is Pearl Jam!

  • @TheGargantuanSock

"to call each thing by its right name"

  • @TheGargantuanSock not trying to pick a "fight" but actually it does matter. It would suck if you, for instance, wrote a book or a song and someone slightly fucked up your work by calling it by wrong name; because, you chose THAT particular name and not another. So, yeah, it matters. It's not a crime but - and since you've given info about the song, where it appears and whatnot, which is cool - it would be nice to correct a fairly significant detail.

  • @aiodiacho

I'll go by Pearl Jam's official website, where the song is listed exactly as I have described it.

Check it yourself if you must: Pearl Jam.com > Music > All Songs > Dead Man Walking.

I trust this ends the matter.

  • @TheGargantuanSock case closed. You win.

  • @TheGargantuanSock case closed. You win. Cheers, dude.

  • @TheGargantuanSock Not really, seeing as the PJ website is notorious for mistakes, and 'Dead Man' and 'Dead Man Walking' are two completely different songs. It's called 'Dead Man' on Lost Dogs.

    Pedantic, yes...but still important!

  • @newyorkcityserenade1

I thought if there was any safe haven for accuracy where most things Pearl Jam are concerned it would be their own website! That said I very much doubt they are two different PJ songs, and that PJ have covered anything of the soundtrack to the film. I'll leave the title as it is for now, as there's a better chance of it coming up in the search results and thus a better chance people will be introduced to it.

  • @Blazio95

No. It's "Dead Man Walking" according to the Lost Dogs album. Just saying.

  • @Blazio95 There's a great clip of Eddie explaining this exact situation at the end of covering Cat Steven's Trouble . Ed says he called Tim and told him he had this song called "Dead man walking" and Tim told him he just received a song from Bruce called " Dead man walking" and that he's got to give it to Bruce because it's kind of a seniority thing. Not sure if you guys are getting Dead man from label print . But there is audio of Eddie calling the song dead man walking...Just sayin..Peace!

  • why only 5k views...very much underrated song

  • awesome

  • first time i heard this version... dark... vintage Eddie...

  • great lost dogs is a gem

  • the best version of this music ever

  • fantasic
