  • Wow. This happened to me twice this week and you're absolutely right I messed it up and learned from the "mistake" and got back on the bike on in this case, the canvas. Thanks!

  • and if you sort of expect there to be a high- risk factor involved, when you have something amazing happen it's thrilling. this is precisely why you're so much fun to watch :)

  • bonjour, beau travail!!!...viens voir sur jakepo17 des artistes français au travail.

    à bientôt,

    Jacques

  • Gary, hope I don't embarrass you however, you are truly a BRILLIANT young man! Your creativeness & the ease in which you teach us new techniques are so much more refreshing than what we (some of us) are normally get in other classes/workshops. I always look forward to your videos they are always so much fun. Thank you for sharing your "brilliance" w/us youtubers. Ciao for now.

  • Woot woot to messing it up!!

  • MESS IT, Brilliant, love your work!

  • Great video!! Keeping it handy in my favs for darker days ;)

Do you ever take an "old messed up project" and use it for something else? When I come across some of my messed up pieces (months or years later), I often see them in a different way and they might even inspire me for something else... That's how I cope! Well, after the yelling, the swearing, the crying, and the shredding... Yes, sometimes I nearly destroy the thing but I save the bits and pieces in containers... Ha! Ha! :)

  • Perfect timing Gary, thanks. I love your perspective that although we can't help messing up now and then, we CAN change the way we feel about it. You remind us all that messing up is part of the great creative experience. Cheers!

  • Messed up paintings are the real bliss!

(I love the word 'bliss', don't know why, always did..)

  • You are too young to be so wise! Love your work, love your techniques. Keep posting!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU -YOU said just what i needed to hear a virtual kick in the pants -your "wisdom" and simplicity is a gift keep sharing -much love& light

  • Such words of wisdom - from such a kook! I know mistakes can be good things, I just needed to hear it again. You're absolutely right. You keep a lot of people going, Gary, whether you know it or not. Thank you. G.

  • You are so right, as an art teacher it's hard to get my students to try new things, they are sooooo scared of making a mistake. I tell them "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. Scott Adams. There are no mistakes in art:-) Woohooo!

  • Love your videos. Can you please tell me what the product "bitumen" is called in the US. I've looked for it everywhere.

  • Hi,

Look for a product called Asphalt crack filler.

    Hope that helps

  • Great video and topic! Loved it!!

  • heeeeeeeeeeeelp meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  • Thanks for your encouragement and support. It's really working. I started three things already, without much of my usual anxiety. I love the video effects..and the music!

  • Well glad i could be of some small help! ;)

  • trippy....

  • I love what you said about your messed up paintings being your greatest teachers. Great attitude and philosophy!

  • well, arent you the cheshire cat.

  • I love how you made the video itself, look like mixed media! Coolsome!

  • your bloody mad your are Pmsl, great vid, whats the saying we learn by our mistakes well were suposed to, im always messing up so i just wipe it out and start over and dont stress or worry about it any more just go with the flow.

  • interesting subject...... I've always thought it odd to be afraid of messing up when it comes to art... I mean you can always keep adjusting things and painting over things. I guess I can understand if one is afraid of wasting money on materials, but other than that, I've always thought it odd when anyone relates bravery to art. I guess I've never felt that emotion when creating art. btw, good point about "mess ups" being your best teachers, I totally agree :)

  • i like that about not having 100% control of our creation. SO true. No painting or drawing ever comes out quite like i pictured it in my head. Ever. Sometimes for the better, sometimes, not so much..... but it's part of growing. Also, the cool thing about paint is you can always paint over it...;-]

    great vid, as always.

ps. your head is very floaty.

  • Thanks so much for sharing such "AWESOME" advice Gary. I truly appreciate you.

  • Love it:) So true.......So I guess I need to start then, to be able to mess it up?

  • yes and so is life! ...thank you. so...let's embrace it!

  • LOL That was a totally awesome video. It made me laugh. :0) It came at the perfect time actually. I will be brave and I will take more risks. Thanks for the boost! :0)

  • The ending... ahahaha! You're so silly!

  • Great video Gary! And an excellent inspiration for those of us who mess up a lot! (:

  • I've said this before among other members...If you can create ONE great piece of work you can create 900 of them..they are out there waiting for you to create. Just paint over the crap and go again...that's what bravery is all about!!

  • lol i always mess up haha nice vid

  • so true, Gary. Fortunately, I am more interested in the process than the outcome anyway. your video came out very cool, fun to watch!
