And she was criticized not to be able to act!!! Look at her eyes and face! She does not only have beautiful face, but I admire how she moves and acts with girlish grace no matter how big her body looks like. I agree with emf1918. Forgot nowadays fashion models, who knows what a beauty ideal was at the time of Salome. It could be just the Montserrat body one /still popular in Pacific area till now/. So do not value her body, but her acting and singing which is peerless, I guess.

if you think of the size of a lot of teenagers these days I don't see anything strange in Caballe being big, in fact the costume makes her look larger than she was at this point in her life. it's about the voice and she portrays Salome's petulant nature to perfection the final scene is musical magic! forget size just look at her face, her expressive eyes and listen......

I didn't realize Caballe ever performed Salome live. She is quite effective vocally and dramatically despite her size.

Caballe sang Salome as early as '58 in Vienna. There is also a great live performance from Vienna from '72 that is outstanding....
