this woman is speaking the truth. I'm native here and I'm very anti-Pittsburgh. As a black man myself it makes me nod my head that black ppl can't even get themselves out of the negative stereotypes. I see whites look me at me like a f***ing martian. I co-sign everything to what she's saying.
Pittsburgh IS a pretty crappy little city, she's not lying for the most part. I'm from Boston and Boston is so much better. If it were not for my love for U. Pitt and UPMC, I would have been out of this joke of a city a LONG time ago. Pittsburgh is sooo boringg, things only become slightly less boring after turning 21. About the racism, idk. i haven't experienced racism in my 3 years here (im black as well)
im from atlanta if a white person call me out my name i will beat the white off they ass period..im for real they will no longer be white they will be black and blue ive been to pittsburgh and i didnt experience that but if i did they would have got a taste of what a black person from atlanta will do too they ass if they ever disrespect me or any of my people...in atlanta caucasians are scared to walk up the street by themselves they a bunch of pussies alone but when its 50 of them they act tuff
@Fester3461, Pittsburgh Mills is a mall in a high class area the young lady was not speaking of the coal, coke, or steel mills @ Ray72982, it really does depend on where in Pittsburgh! for example Oakland vs North Hills Oakland is fine, North Hills has a lot of racism going on. @Everybody else that doesn't agree, pay more attention!!!!
of course ppl look at you funny in the mills. pa is made up of philly, pittsburgh and then mississippi in the middle. the mills sits right on the edge of "mississippi", so you get some dumb hicks, some thugs from the bad parts of the area, and then only a few normal ppl. trust me i used to work in the mills.
white guy here, i always thought pgh to be one of the least racist cities but i guess it depends on which neighborhood u r in. p.s. i like black people, no problems here
@NiggazInSpace666 Dialogue. The clip is from a video series about the effects of gentrification, race and class. This film is an educational piece for African American youth to have an honest dialogue about being black in American and tackle issues such as the above mentioned and other issues such as: Black on Black Discrimination, Economic Disparities and Teen/Gang Violence to name few. The series is use as tool to help your black youth to help each other rise up and never put each other down.
@hyperboymedia First off, the girl is bitching about the city being "boring". People in Detroit would give their left arm for a fucking TARGET let alone the PLETHORA of cultral and artistic activities that are made accessible in the city of Pittsburgh. If she's bored, it's her own damn fault.
@hyperboymedia Secondly, she is talking about people looking at her funny at Pitt Mills - that is a mall that is almost 40 minutes outside most Pittsburgh areas. It's a mall that is populated by hicks and biggots, so yes, I fully believe that she gets stared at there...so are most white people that aren't in hunting jackets. But that's not Pittsburgh, it's the country, so it doesn't make sense to put that clip in your documentary because it's not accurate.
@hyperboymedia And third, on the national level, this would get laughed at. Anyone who has spent time in areas like Detroit, like I have, understand what a priveledge it is to live in a city like Pittsburgh - white or black. I'm sure there are countless incidents of racism in this city...but there are still undertones of racism in the country in general. Definitely sad, but definitely not an area-specific thing. I commend you for your dialouge but I think it is 100% wrong.
@N####InSpace666 You're entitled to your opinion but I challenge you do something better than being a keyboard hero. It's so easy to sit here comment but what are you/we doing to make things better? If you want to be a part of the dialogue for the next film when we tackle the word NIGGER (log name), by all means send an email with your contact info and let's talk about doing shit that's real instead of sitting around back and forth on here while everything is changing around us.
@NiggazInSpace666 Please reread my first response, rent the film at library and watch it at least before your next posting. I saw your CACTUS clip. If you got skills, go make something, do something. Until then, I don't want to waste my time while there is a lot of work to do. If we don't make changes for ourselves, someone else will. Good luck.
@NiggazInSpace666 I'm from Pgh, and I know as a working class city with a large black population, living there is a different experience than a lot of the country. But if you don't think the bizarre segregated neighborhoods of Pgh have their own unique problem with racism, I think you've missed the character of the city. And I think a class problem makes her feel this way as well--white and black working class in Pgh are faced more and more these days w/ concentrated gentrification & hostility.
If you don't like it, then leave you faggot. You can have Baltimore, I love my city the way it is. As for the racism, you seem like the racist...hatin' on the white man like the white man brings you down...pshhh.
I'll also say something else. The issues that affect the black community are NATIONAL problems and are also that of working and poor people in general. Capitalism and the military/industrial complex are to blame, and the current African-American in The White House is only business-as-usual.
The people who hate Pittsburgh also seem to love cities that have much greater wealth inequality, meaning that only very rich and very poor people live in the city without any middle-income people. People also need to look at the racist histories of their own cities before they throw stones at Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh Mills is WAYYYY out in Tarentum,PA. That's not Pittsburgh.
It's hilarious how the Pittsburgh bashers of all races all love cities with much higher crime rates and cost of living. Baltimore has a crime rate that is much higher than the national average. I can also tell you right off the bat why this girl really hates Pittsburgh: Her home city, Baltimore, is predominantly BLACK (63%). Pittsburgh is 64% white. That's what this is all about. She feels uncomfortable because she's in the minority for once in her life. There is racism everywhere.
every race has its bad apples weve been on this planet for how many thousand years n for some reason we still dont get that. its time to stop lookin at race people!!!!!
@kushbluntsandrozay really, anywhere a person lives is what they make of it. But there really isnt much to work with in Pittsburgh. I appreciate those efforts.of those trying to make.this city better...but IMO its been getting worse since 2000. The population decline and the constant suburban sprawl has really made this city weird. I was born and raised here and im just using the resources available here to go somewhere that suits me better.
@kushbluntsandrozay and everyones reasoning for liking/hating the Burgh is gonna be different. Take that into consideration. Sure, i could live in the burbs, but as a 20 something man, that bores me. Also, i prefer to have a little.more diversity in my city living....which Pittsburgh really isn't. I see the ignorance in this city (and thats not geographically exclusive either) and i rather would not be around that.
@kushbluntsandrozay Also, perhaps I was a bit too angry in my last post. Im not feeling that way anymore. Im just dealing with the motions and not complaining. I could break down alot of stats and facts about Pittsburgh, but theres only so much room for me to type. So im just gonna leave at this...there are much bettet cities in this country than Pittsburgh.
I agree with everything homegirl said. Pittsburgh is trash and i hate it too. I agree with her that Baltimore is ten times better too. If Pittsburgh is supposed to be "the most livable city in America" why the hell has the population of this city been decreasing since 2000? This city is fucking garbage and i cant wait to finish up my degree at Generic jocko/fratboy/sorority girl state school #345 also known as Pitt so i can move to an actual progressive city.
@strictlyriddim hey buddy well guess hwat baltimore had 34 murders and pittsburgh had 17 last year, baltimore had an average of 41 rapes while pittsburgh had 21,if you go in the mountains and live in the outskirts ite beautiful, you dont live in the fuckin downtown of pittsburgh you idiot every downtown in every city is scum, but all of baltimore is scum and it just fuckin sucks so take those stats and jam it up your ass you ignorant dumbass
I'm a honkey from the east end... I moved to Cali 10 years ago because of everything that super-hottie said in the video. Fuck Pgh, they are really a bunch of racist redneck hicks... Run baby, run... don't walk, hop a greyhound. Move to the west coast and feel the sunshine. (p.s. learn a little spanish if you are thinking of getting a job here)
@charliemarz1-Oh let's see, CA, the state with more hate crimes committed yearly than any other. The home o the LA Riots, Rodney King, Reginald Denney, OJ Simpson Trial, let me count the ways. But there's no racism in CA. No way. It's all in the South and in Pennsylvania. Yup.
I grew up in shit burg am black and she telling the fuckin truth that's y i moved out of state at 18 and have never been back.I wish my mom and dad would move but there old and set in their ways.Philly is tight that's the only place I would live in pa.
@devomcdevo The media is here 2 get ratings that's why more than half of the new reports are about negative things going on in the black community never the positive that goes on there as well. I grew up in the 80's and all of my friends had a mom/dad married, good jobs, educated, and working hard. Nowadays I agree it's not like that, but all black people don't want to live that way they don't have the resources or the know how to live a better life. Now some yeah that's the way they want 2 live
"It aint no better there either". You want respect, learn to speak proper English!
And, is your check a pay check, or a welfare check?
Believe it or not, it DOES make a difference.
The Black community is all about being different, from the names you give your kids, to the way you speak, and the way you dress, and then, you want everyone else to accept you?
@devomcdevo wow no one deserve that treatment anywhere fuck all that earned shit you white motha fuckahs need to chill out i can understand if you dislike someone but because of there race come on now i could start saying hey white people fuck they own family members and got fucked up kids thats why there all fucked up but no i don't say shit cause it's not about race, so sorry u got a restarted few on things
@devomcdevo wow no one deserve that treatment anywhere fuck all that earned shit you white motha fuckahs need to chill out i can understand if you dislike someone but because of there race come on now i could start saying hey white people fuck they own family members and got fucked up kids thats why there all fucked up but no i don't say shit cause it's not about race, so sorry u got a restarted vew on things
@devomcdevo i agree with you on what you said but dont say the black community because not all black people are like her uneducated stupid ghetto and on welfare thats a terrible stereotype that i hoped died when we elected our first black president you saying "the black community"when referring to her is like me saying the whole "white" community is full of white trash rednecks living in mobile homes you catch my drift here? all im saying is never judge a book by its misleading cover
no honey. its not. i think its just you. im from Pittsburgh, and i had many friends outside my race. most of my friends were in interracial relationships. so i think its you and your attitude.
And another thing, if those people at the bank are looking at you like you don't belong there, then curse them out. !!!! You don't have to cry about it, and run away from the city. There is racism everywhere. But in my opinion, mostly the South. South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee. Nothing but republicans. I've been living down here in Atlanta for two years, and its mostly a god southern georgia city for everybody. But I think that Pittsburgh is like a small NYC.
All who cares what she things about Pgh !!! I'm black, and I'm from Pittsburgh, and I love Pittsburgh. Because its haves great sports teams, It has better school systems, and it haves great neighborhoods, great foods, and great malls. And trust me. The South has more racism than Pittsburgh. Pgh is more friendly. !!!!! Umm !! Think she had troubles.
Nothing wrong with expressing your feelings but don't sound ignorant doing so. To"Dick" that's what you sound like. It's Black History Month. Educate yourself!
Instead of focusing all of your energy on how unfairly you think you're being treated and how white people are the root to all of black's problems, focus your energy and frustrations towards making a difference for your people and yourself. I don't understand why blacks in general always look to white people to solve there fucking problems for them, and spoon-feed them through life. If you don't like the way we do things, take care of yourself. Stop crying about it!
@PittsDick77 You need to send me a message with contact info for an interview. I deleted your last comment because you did not respond. These kids are not looking for others to solve their problems... Just direction like any other kid in life. Send me your contact info in a message. Thanks.
@PittsDick77 I'm black and I agree with this post. I come from a good family a two parent household. I'm 30 and my parents to this day is still married (33years) my parents are hardworking own two houses and they NEVER asked anybody for anything. The only think that piss me off is white people thinks all black people are bad and that's NOT true. I know some white people that's on welfare and live in the projects as well. I do agree that black folks need to take focus on changing not blaming.
@RosefromPittsburgh - I'm glad to hear that! And I really hate to generalize people, but when things become blatantly obvious to the eye, you can't help but to start to realize. I'd much rather divide people between those who have a conscience, and those who are ignorant... rather than making it a race issue. Because you're right. There IS such thing as "the scum of the white race"... that's what we call white trash.
@PittsDick77-Just to show that I'm a equal-opportunity, your post is way off the mark as well. You're stereotyping just as much as anyone else. Polls show that a clear majority of blacks and whites (remember, whites make up the majority of poor in this country) know who and what's to blame for inequality in this country. The power elites deliberately pit workers and poor against each other to stifle an actual movement.
Anyone who seriously thinks that because Black men are convicted of more crimes means Black men commit more crimes clearly doesn't understand institutionalized racism. In fact they buy into it. Poor people commit more crimes that are punished (not legal stealing that make people rich or legal killing that get you medals) and Blacks are more likely to be poor - also a legacy of systematic exclusion characteristic of modern racism. A white man has it easier if he's in front of a cop or a judge.
you have to remember a large majority of the people from "pittsburgh" dont actually live in the city. most of them live in suburbs and travel to the city for work. also if you travel pretty much 30miles in any direction of pittsburgh your not far from the country (like me) where people are still racist. i hate to say it but i am a racist. every night i turn on the news something bad comes on and its a minority. theres a lot of mexicans my way now and crime has gone up dramatically.
@mscolorpurple77 no, its a fact. your more likely to have a crime commited on you by a minority than a white person. 1 out of every 3 black males will spend time in jail at some point in their life.
I'm white and not racist, and go to the mall there a lot......................
People are ignorant everywhere...but I havent noticed a lot of racist people in Pitt. I am from Alabama, where there is a higher percentage of minorities so maybe I have never noticed racism, but go to UPMC, which is highly respected and some of the best drs. there are minorities. Also Pitt has a high percentage of minorities..and I think people overall seem to treat each other good.
@rach080 there's different types or ways of expressing rasicm down in the south where it used to be a viable way of life, and not to give these people any credit but atleast they are not a coward about their feelings they come right out and express their ignorance to your face. northern rasicm is different. its largely people holding onto staunch sterotypes and having predisposition against someone from the color of thier skin and expressing it when they think the person is out of earshot.
@rach080 im black and i've been in pittsburgh all my life, so i have experienced this kind of rasicm first hand. the worst person i've actually caught was a chemistry teacher at a community college. ever since the first class with him i had noticed he talked differently to me than to other students who were white, with me when i needed to ask him a question he was very brief. and i noticed him looking at me alot as if i shouldnt be there or if he suspected i was cheating.
@rach080it should be needless to say i wasnt but finally after 2 semesters of him i had had enough and finally confronted him. and up to this points there were various other rude things he said to me that were sort of ambiguous , you coulndt call him on it but upon hearing his comment you had to stop and think about it and other classmates whoe were white also had uneasy looks on thier faces after hearing him. but so i confronted him about him thinking i was cheating and he cowered away.
@rach080it and recently talking to another faculty member from that school my suspecion was confrimed because i was not the first good minority student to complain of such behavior from this teacher, and what makes it worse is no one has talked to this man. so if you are expecting to see cross burning and rock throwing or other such things from the civil rights movement in the south no that kind of racism is not the dominant form here in pittsburgh.
@rach080 and if you are really that curious about it i suggest you look into the southern poverty law center, they are based in Atlanta and are a ig watchdog group for the country on racism, alot of people over look thier stuff because they dont want to know the truth about themselves and where they live. the SPL has comprehensive maps mapping all types of rascim group across the US. as you can see pittsburgh does have some black separatists groups
@rach080 but as i was saying pittsburgh does have some black separitists groups but they of course in scale because of the fundamental fact blacks are a minority anything really to compare to aryn nation or the ultra conservative catholic beliefs which dominate the pittsburgh area. my hypothesis is the rasicm is subverted because alarge portion of it comes from this strong catholic docterine and the wait till you leave the room tactic
@rach080 largely may come from guilt at one time catholics too were very prejudiced against due to the majority of them being immigrants. and if my hypothesis may have any truth to it that is a complete shame for people around here who do partake and embrace inthis kind of thought.
this woman is speaking the truth. I'm native here and I'm very anti-Pittsburgh. As a black man myself it makes me nod my head that black ppl can't even get themselves out of the negative stereotypes. I see whites look me at me like a f***ing martian. I co-sign everything to what she's saying.

How many murders last year in Pittsburgh were Black men, killing other Black men?
I'll bet it was the vast majority of them, based on the nightly news reports I watch.
Why is that? Why will your own community not report the murders? Why won't anyone address the REAL Issues that cause these problems?
Like the fact that there is NO FAMILY structure left in the Black Community? Baby Daddies, Baby mama's?

Thanks.

@hyperboymedia - you can contact me through here.
And despite of what anyone thinks about me talking about racially related subjects and pointing out the obvious, I'm not racist... I'm a realist.
PittsDick77 1 year ago
@PittsDick77 I'm black and I agree with this post. I come from a good family a two parent household. I'm 30 and my parents to this day is still married (33years) my parents are hardworking own two houses and they NEVER asked anybody for anything. The only think that piss me off is white people thinks all black people are bad and that's NOT true. I know some white people that's on welfare and live in the projects as well. I do agree that black folks need to take focus on changing not blaming.
RosefromPittsburgh 8 months ago
@RosefromPittsburgh - I'm glad to hear that! And I really hate to generalize people, but when things become blatantly obvious to the eye, you can't help but to start to realize. I'd much rather divide people between those who have a conscience, and those who are ignorant... rather than making it a race issue. Because you're right. There IS such thing as "the scum of the white race"... that's what we call white trash.
PittsDick77 8 months ago

@PittsDick77 Care to do an interview? Thanks for the input.

you have to remember a large majority of the people from "pittsburgh" dont actually live in the city. most of them live in suburbs and travel to the city for work. also if you travel pretty much 30miles in any direction of pittsburgh your not far from the country (like me) where people are still racist. i hate to say it but i am a racist. every night i turn on the news something bad comes on and its a minority. theres a lot of mexicans my way now and crime has gone up dramatically.
zeroflat24 1 year ago
@zeroflat24 maybe you have tunnel vision, and that's all you want to see -- minorities and crime...
mscolorpurple77 1 year ago
@mscolorpurple77 no, its a fact. your more likely to have a crime commited on you by a minority than a white person. 1 out of every 3 black males will spend time in jail at some point in their life.
zeroflat24 1 year ago
I'm white and not racist, and go to the mall there a lot......................
People are ignorant everywhere...but I havent noticed a lot of racist people in Pitt. I am from Alabama, where there is a higher percentage of minorities so maybe I have never noticed racism, but go to UPMC, which is highly respected and some of the best drs. there are minorities. Also Pitt has a high percentage of minorities..and I think people overall seem to treat each other good.
rach080 1 year ago
@rach080 there's different types or ways of expressing rasicm down in the south where it used to be a viable way of life, and not to give these people any credit but atleast they are not a coward about their feelings they come right out and express their ignorance to your face. northern rasicm is different. its largely people holding onto staunch sterotypes and having predisposition against someone from the color of thier skin and expressing it when they think the person is out of earshot.
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080 im black and i've been in pittsburgh all my life, so i have experienced this kind of rasicm first hand. the worst person i've actually caught was a chemistry teacher at a community college. ever since the first class with him i had noticed he talked differently to me than to other students who were white, with me when i needed to ask him a question he was very brief. and i noticed him looking at me alot as if i shouldnt be there or if he suspected i was cheating.
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080it should be needless to say i wasnt but finally after 2 semesters of him i had had enough and finally confronted him. and up to this points there were various other rude things he said to me that were sort of ambiguous , you coulndt call him on it but upon hearing his comment you had to stop and think about it and other classmates whoe were white also had uneasy looks on thier faces after hearing him. but so i confronted him about him thinking i was cheating and he cowered away.
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080it and recently talking to another faculty member from that school my suspecion was confrimed because i was not the first good minority student to complain of such behavior from this teacher, and what makes it worse is no one has talked to this man. so if you are expecting to see cross burning and rock throwing or other such things from the civil rights movement in the south no that kind of racism is not the dominant form here in pittsburgh.
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080 and if you are really that curious about it i suggest you look into the southern poverty law center, they are based in Atlanta and are a ig watchdog group for the country on racism, alot of people over look thier stuff because they dont want to know the truth about themselves and where they live. the SPL has comprehensive maps mapping all types of rascim group across the US. as you can see pittsburgh does have some black separatists groups
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080 but as i was saying pittsburgh does have some black separitists groups but they of course in scale because of the fundamental fact blacks are a minority anything really to compare to aryn nation or the ultra conservative catholic beliefs which dominate the pittsburgh area. my hypothesis is the rasicm is subverted because alarge portion of it comes from this strong catholic docterine and the wait till you leave the room tactic
Raphael2885 1 year ago
@rach080 largely may come from guilt at one time catholics too were very prejudiced against due to the majority of them being immigrants. and if my hypothesis may have any truth to it that is a complete shame for people around here who do partake and embrace inthis kind of thought.
