Not only should they have to buy two seats but in fact they should have to buy a whole row. If someone was in a window seat and this guy was in the next two seats - during an emergency the guy in the window seat would not be able to reach the exit fast enough. There is also the issue about whether someone that fat can exit the plan in an emergency.

I kinda think they should do like amusements parks. If you aren't sure you are going to fit, there is an example chair, maybe in a room so you don't have a lot of stares. Then you can check prior to the flight to see if you need one chair or two. And maybe they should do the test to any one over 13, to make it fair?
They should have a section in the plane with BIG seats for BIG people. And if they don't sell out they can list the bigger seats at a slightly more expensive price for people who are looking to sit in a seat that is less expensive than business class but significantly more comfortable than economy class.

Here is a viable solution that would solve this issue. I know airlines want to cram as many people on a flight as possible, but they also want to keep out the media when something like this come sup. How about Boeing, or McDonnell Douglas provide airplanes with a few 'larger' seats to accommodate these bigger than normal passengers? 3-4 seats that are bigger than the normal, and charge a few dollars more to make up for the 'lost' passenger seems to be the best way to go.

Okay, i am alomst 2 meters tall and therefor i weigh in at around 95 kg. I can't help that i weigh more then average but i think that i should pay more then a skinny short little kid who weighs 40kg.

Just came back from a live show with assigned seats, paid a few hundred for seats and waited for months for this event, but it was basically NOT enjoyable because a absolutely massive guy sits next to my wife with his fat hanging over both sides of the seat so my wife has to feel this guys fat up against her the whole show....it's bullshit. Who hasn't seen the "if your bag doesn't fit in this rectangle, you have to check it." display. People with disabilities already get benefits. Private companies shouldn't have to absorb the lost revenue. Why should other customers then end up paying for the extra seats for the fat? Extremely tall people can't count on free upgrades if their legs don't fit, but in an ordinary plane that's just as much a "disability" as being too wide for one seat is. What if someone can't travel unless they have a huge dialysis machine attached? Should everyone else have to pay for the space it takes?

Sorry for the pain they may feel, but fat people should pay for the amount of seats they use. If I use one seat I pay for one seat. If some fat guy is using half of my seat to fit his oversized leg fat in he should move because I paid for a full seat, not a half, and he paid for one seat not 1.5 seats. You get what you pay for, you can't get something for nothing. Anyone who says otherwise quite frankly is wrong and doesn't know life.

Okay, i am alomst 2 meters tall and therefor i weigh in at around 95 kg. I can't help that i weigh more then average but i think that i should pay more then a skinny short little kid who weighs 40kg.
This is because the plane uses more fuel if you ad on more weight so it's logical that you should pay for the amount of weight that you bring ( body and luggage )
This could be done descretely by just walking on a scale with luggage and then the price is added to the ticket without anyone seeing.

Just came back from a live show with assigned seats, paid a few hundred for seats and waited for months for this event, but it was basically NOT enjoyable because a absolutely massive guy sits next to my wife with his fat hanging over both sides of the seat so my wife has to feel this guys fat up against her the whole show....it's bullshit. Buy two fucking seats and allow people to enjoy themselves without having to worry about encroaching on other people's space with morbid obesity!

Charge him for 2 seats. He obviously isn't concerned about his weight, so why is there a problem with him paying for what he needs to use. Sitting in the aisle, if I recall correctly, is not allowed. The only condition he has is call gluttony. I hear this argument all the time in my family. There are 2 types, those that are 'big boned with slow metabolism' who are fat, and those that eat right and exercise that aren't. Big boned, slow metabolism seems to go hand in hand with McDonalds and Hagen Daas.

For example: I have 2 female friends. 1 eats junk food & fatty food NON STOP. The other has stomach issues & can only eat a primarily liquid diet, maybe 1500kal a day. Neither exercise, but the gluttonous one is thin & the other is fat. It's hardly fair & not because the fat one ate herself to that weight.

airlines can dictate and give dimensions for what is considered carry-on and what is considered stowed-luggage on their websites, ticket counters, boarding gates. Who hasn't seen the "if your bag doesn't fit in this rectangle, you have to check it." display. Why can't they just say, if your ass doesn't completely fit in 30" square-inches, you buy another seat or you can piss off. I'm not normally a corporatist, but obesity isn't a handicap and shouldn't be treated as such.

Totally charge them for two seats. It's not the airlines fault that some people have asses that are 4 feet wide and guts that scrape the ground and rub up against the seat in front of them. Or at the very least, they have to sit at the very back as to not interfere with a mass exodus of the jet if an emergency took place.

People with disabilities already get benefits. Private companies shouldn't have to absorb the lost revenue. Why should other customers then end up paying for the extra seats for the fat? Extremely tall people can't count on free upgrades if their legs don't fit, but in an ordinary plane that's just as much a "disability" as being too wide for one seat is. What if someone can't travel unless they have a huge dialysis machine attached? Should everyone else have to pay for the space it takes?

Maybe put in extra large seats or seats that can be enlarged or removed to make room, and charge accordingly. I'm very overweight myself and I'd pay the difference just to be comfortable. I get it that it's my fault I'm fat, but just like anyone else who isn't perfect, I'd like to fly sometimes.

A. Over eaters should be administered for their own safety until they are back to normal weight.
B. Health insurance picks up the extra charge (similar to providing wheelchairs).
C. Stop selling single seats in coach; only sell couches ("coups") with a minimum of 1 meter. This also helps overbooking.

My solution is: Dont eat more food than you'll burn off in a day. Even if you have some medical problem, that still no excuse. No medical condition CAUSES weight gain. It may do other things that may make weight gain easier, but nothing causes it (to my knowledge). I dont give a crap how wonderful and magical food tastes to you, stop shoveling it in your face. People act like this is such a difficult and complex thing, but its not.
