  • grand pah. we. will. see. horrible narration -_-

  • someone foward this to the prez

  • oooh mirosoft anna i love her!

  • For a dc. suess book, that was deep!

  • The Butter Battle Book has conflicted truth values. Its truth: the platitude that nuclear war, like all war, is horrifying. Its falsehood: the naive assertion that conflicts such as the Cold War are based on arbitrary, specious or meaningless differences. Unfortunately this falsehood is so massive that is compromises the overall truth of the book. If Dr. Seuss were alive today to account for his book, he would have to admit he did not compose it in an intellectually responsible manner.

  • @7777TubeSurfer although its true that the differences during the cold war were not trivial they were treated as such. communism and democracy are both viable systems of government and although the US was right to stop the tyranny of Russia, they handled it childishly hating anyone for merely associating themselves with communism or attempting to implement it. the communist witch and McCarthyism were ridiculous the important thing is that no one should die to settle these disputes

  • Pro-Skub!

  • this story is about the cold war

  • Those evil Zooks will ruin the town. Why would you ever have the butterside down?

  • Thumbs up if u like your butter side down!

  • If you think about it, spreading butter on top of bread is the proper way to do it. If you spread it underneath it will drip all over. But that's certainly no reason to go to war, of course.

  • @zvermilyer3 So you spread the butter on top of the bread and then turn the bread upside down to take a bite as your taste buds are on the top of your tongue anyway, and this way it won't stick to the roof of your mouth either. That way you get the best of both worlds...oh wait, light bulb moment

  • @MrsBelfastBeauty But that's just too buttery! The subtlety of the butter on the top of the bread is definitely the way to go!

  • What an enthusiastic storyteller!

  • Comment removed

  • this is a cold war propaganda book.

  • @hinataFa101 no, it reflects on the cold war.

  • @hinataFa101 it reflects the concern about the cold war were both fought on the arms race

  • Day9 made me drop the bomb.

  • Butter side up, DOWN WITH THE ZOOKS !

  • @omlas6 Butter side down, you dirty yook!

  • haunting ...

  • Nuclear wars...

  • promoted? they only got one soldier lol

this is a very good story though went from sticks and stones, bows (the slingshots), guns (gun with dog), to tanks (the big walking machine thingie), and finally the nuke and everyone just hold onto their nukes and are at a standstill

  • Butter on BOTH sides ftw!!!!!!!

    Everyone gets more!

  • Moral of this story was that the whole cold war conflict was ultimately a waste of time over a pointless difference. Can't say he's not right

  • @TheVoiceOfReason93 While the difference in methods of buttering one's toast may be a pointless one, if you think the difference between capitalism and communism is equally as "pointless" then all I can say is I'm glad you weren't making any of the decisions during the Cold War.

  • @cotchery

Well i didn't exactly say - "He's right!", what i am implying, and i am clarifying it now, is although the whole thing is complicated, there is no actual pt in conflict between the two system. Krushev himself stated his willingness of creating a state of "Peaceful Co-existance" between the two countries, and vice versa. If i am the one making decisions, i would work for a Kissinger style Detente with the other power and settle out differences peacefully.

  • My teacher should have just read this instead of explaining the Cold War.

  • damn this guy is the greatest rapper of all time

  • my social teacher read this to our class and she said it was a bout WW2 cuase at the end i gues that thing was supposed to be a nuke.

  • @aBLiNDbAt69 Except WW2 ended with one side having the bomb. Then the Berlin Wall was built and Cold War arms race had many live in fear of global thermonuclear war.

  • @aBLiNDbAt69 it is about the cold war. actualy in ww2 there was an atomic bomb and in the cold war it was a nuke

  • zooks suck!

  • Eminem can make this much more interesting if he narrated.

  • This was Dr. Seuss's answer to the Cold War

  • wow.....it's a weird voice and it has NO comments like my class did!!!! :) LOL

  • there are so many cold war references in that book ...

  • @DragonRaised that book IS a cold war refrence

  • @DragonRaised its based on the cold war

  • Fallout 4 - in the world of Dr. Seuss.

  • DOWN WITH THOSE BUTTER SIDE DOWN COMMIES!!!...ok all seriousness i like who this whole 'war' in this book is about something as small as how you eat your bread...just as the cold war was about something as small as communism or capitalism

  • srry....how not who in ...how this whole 'war'...

  • Down with the yooks!

  • @eveltree UP WITH ZOOKS

  • wow every one this book is about the cold war!!!! jesus

  • Man I love this, so disturbing for a childrens story, so much of a warning. I'm gonna make my kids read this one.

  • you know, this story would be amazing, if the narrator would have emotions!

  • The narrator is a computer, there's no way to give it emotions.

  • hehe its not a narrator its a computor program... kurswile 3000 or something like that.

  • I just told someone about this story. Its so freaking true, even though I saw it when I was a kid I almost forgot its lessons until later in my life, and when I relearned them I thought of this. My children (should I have any) will have this book.

  • Every single person on Earth needs to read or be read this book. If everyone understood the message that Dr. Seuss managed to distill in this story, we could save all of the lives, the money, and the misery that frivolous wars over religion and ideology cause the world. Just think how much better the world would be if Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim extremists would just realize that they're all essentially eating the same bread and butter.

  • That would be great if you were reading The Sneetches because that is about discrimination. You can apply what you said to that book too. I don't want to correct you and seem like a jerk but the book is mainly about the Cold War. That is why the book was pulled from the shelves when it came out. It was all about the ideals of the US and Russia at the time. At the end it is apparent because both sides have a bomb that can wipe each other out. Nuclear bombs. I do like your message though.

  • @seangllghr that some deep shit

  • @seangllghr That's a beautiful rendition of a perfect world. Unfortunately, this world has humans.

  • @seangllghr Just think if you actually read a book or two and read more and understood that that Catholic Protestant and Jewish people are worship the same entity(Yahweh or God) that is different than the Allah of Islam. But you dont and millions of other people dont because they are misguided and know nothing about critical thinking. This leads to arrogant bigotism like you have just displayed.

  • @fibbomarch isnt it the case that islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet though? wouldn't that implicitly legitimize the christian god?

  • @Africa4444 I didn't really read the beginning of your and @Africa4444 's conversation, but the Chritian and the Islamic god are the same god. The MAIN difference between the two religions is that Christians believe that Jesus is the sun of God and Muslims believe that Jesus is not a god, but a prophet.

  • @laxtitude26 .....What does this have to do with Dr. Seuss...

  • @Mwstmrlnd lol nothing. just adding my oppinion to their conversation

  • wtf using pc to read sucks!

  • Dr. Seuss was a genius. This is great.

  • oooh. Armageddon in a kids book. creepy.

    I love Dr. Seuss though.

  • she talks wierd

  • 'She' is a voice synthesizer, a computer.

  • beautifully writen book i love the satire of it definitly one of my faves.

  • most of dr. seuss had some deep hidden moral or meaning that was ment for adults. he was a really deep person and is my favorite author

  • In a way, this children's book can be pretty mature enough for adult readers if you know how dark the story was.

  • This had a lot to do with the Cold War. The separation of West Berlin and East Berlin and how they fighting almost led to Nuclear war.

  • thank you for posting this. There is a lot of truth in it.
