the way TDL group/Tim Horton's bypasses the taxes is that instead of listing this as a contest, they list it as a quiz. Sneaky, but efficient.

For all prizes (especially the big ones), you have to fill in a basic math questionnaire. that way, you don't have to use much brain power, and still get the prize - whether you lose the questionnaire or win.

Apparently, no taxes are to be paid on quizzes.
