@Dorni2405 There are, but no where near enough to warrent a dept buying a rig of such size, many rescue trucks have very very large whinches and cranes mounted on them, or calling in a Tractor-Trailer tow truck.
@68Engine68 Basically cranes are used for lifting heavy things, like trucks, train cars or anything like that. It can also be used for lifting obese person out of their apartment to the ground so they can be brought to a hospital. Cranes are also used for rescueing injured construction workers out of a construction pit. Therefore a special "cage", which is transported in that container, can be used. There are many more calls for a crane. German fire depts have way more technical calls than fires
@karsten7455 they are used for heavy rescue operations like at a truck rollover, train derailments, collapsed roofs/buildings and clear the streets from storm damages (for example trees) and stuff like that
can i ask why we dont have one of these in the USA !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? that could come in handy some times i would love to have one at oure station
@mastersnip02 the reason is would you want your city or dept to spend 1/2 a million dollars or more on a unit they may use once or twice a year? when you can get one from a crane rental with a skilled operator almost as fast? i know this because i used to work for a towing and crane service in ohio that is regularly called by several fire depts to assist them. and yes we would roll 24/7.
@truckerjay1 that might work most of the time, but since they aren't allowed to go code 3 it would take more time to get on scene (especially through traffic jams). And another point is that the FD might not reach a crane rental at e.g. 3 AM, or that they got no crane left.
So some FD in the big cities buy a crane to be on the safe side
@MultiMonster69 they are used for heavy rescue operations like at a truck rollover, train derailments, collapsed roofs/buildings and clear the streets from storm damages (for example trees) and stuff like that.
@elw1112 you see the second vehicle, the roll-off dumpster truck? Yes they converted it into a utility rig, but like the crane it was not made as an emergency vehicle to begin with. Btw my eyes are fine Ty for the concern
I am sure there is a very good reason for a German fire department to have equipment such as this but I do not believe I have ever seen this before. The second vehicle looks like a garbage truck but I am sure it's not that
@WBDE they are used for heavy rescue operations for example at truck rollovers to clear the freeway in a shorter time. Also used at train derailments, collapsed roofes/buildings and stuff like that.
@WBDE on the second truck the writing "AB Kran" means it is an equipment truck for the crane. AB means Abrollbehälter, this is a container loaded on the truck which can be put down for easier access. Those trucks a very common on german fire departments. the big advantage is you have one truck with many containers. this is cheaper compared to lots of trucks. depending on the situation you take the container you need and begin your work. common containers are for scba, radiation or oil.
wtf? is this a fire dept? looks like a construction company... id like to see a piece of this kind of apparatus respond to a fire in america. pierce or spartan or any of our brands would straight up shit on these guys.
@607jordan Right, because heavy trucks do a shitload in helping fight a fire. Like what, exactly? Oh right, you need a minute to do a 180° turn therefore arrive at the scene when people have died and the building collapses.
@607jordan No wonder america gets laughed at with this sort of competitive we are better than everybody else and by the way we can whip youre ass attitude. It's just a vid of some rescue truck and you turn it into a pissing contest.
@607jordan they are not used for fighting fires but for heavy rescue operations for example when there's a truck rollover, derailed trains (or single cars), collapsed roofs or buildings, and support to rescue people from places that are very high up or places you wouldn't reach with a normal 100 ft. aerial ladder.
and it's not like that they can't go fast with these cranes.
@607jordan Just because something's big, doesn't mean it's not usefull. These are very important vehicles. You only saw these two vehicles and not the other ones. These are specialist vehicles. You use two fire engines and an ambulance for one medical call whereas here and all over Europe, all we need is an ambulance and (in some cases) a paramedic vehicle or a motorcycle. I've been meaning to watch this video for a while because I thought it was strange seeing a mobile crane in a fire station.
