  • She was, I am humbled and grateful to say, my piano teacher. I consider this one of the greatest recordings of all time.

  • Great, Dorfmann was an amazing pianist.

  • is there a way to get a copy of this?, on cd or mp3

  • actually some months before this recording session, they gave a live concert performance of it, which was recorded, and the tempo is much slower.

    cesare

  • It seems that Toscanini and Dorfmann are following Czerny's indication in his "Kunst des Vortrags" (Art of Interpreting) where he gives as metronome-mark 88 for each half note (or 176 for each quarter beat).

But this is not an Alla Breve, nor does the character of the movement benefit from this pace...I think it's simply too fast for an "Allegro con brio".

  • whow it is the best Beethoven i ever heard !!!!!!!!!!!!! I am an austrian born pianist. I never did hope such a good recording could exist. I can only recommend to the young students to go to learn at the juliard school in New York as all the good pianists from the 30ties went there to teach....

the austro/german tradition continues over there.

Hear this legato and the rythm.... and the sound !!!!!! and phrasing !!!!!

  • that's a wonderful christmas present. love ya lots, karen

  • Magnificent !!
