@costastudios can you focus it at all ? the tip of mine spins and i can focus it. it pretty much needs to be focusable to burn cause then you can dial the beam down to its smallest diameter. it wont burn no matter how far or close the object is?

You are using a lens to focus the laser beam...red laser doesn't have that much energy...but nice try! it would be nice if you were honest, but this isn't the first physics demonstration that omitted all the facts! Thanx for the fun!

@brianburleigh Are you high? First of all, ALL laser pointers have lenses. All of them. Second of all, the power of a laser has nothing to do with its color. You can find powerful red lasers and you can get weak blue ones. I really hope you're trolling here.

@awdiwdwf Thanks for the reply! At 200mW a laser beam would have to be *tightly* focused to produce substantial heat, which is why I said he was using a lens - an *additional* lens. And yes, you are right, the power of a laser has nothing to do with its colour...I don't know why I said that, how silly.  And why would I have to be *high* to make these comments? Seeing some of the others I can see why you'd say that to *them*.

@brianburleigh Yes, it would have to be at the focal point, but also note that everything he uses is black. The matches wouldn't have worked if they weren't colored over. He wouldn't necessarily have to use an additional lens; some lasers have an adjustable focus, which he could use in lieu of that. As for my word choice, I was feeling melodramatic at the time. I also don't even try to reply to the people who ARE high. Nothing good comes from that.

i think so. i thought these lasers produced i.r. but i guess red lasers dont i was told that only the bright light hurts your eyes so i dont see why sunglasses wouldnt help they reduce the light so you should be fine

As for your blue comment true 473nm lasers are very costly. Reds are awesome because they are cheap and efficient. I mean you friend might think it's just another red pointer at first until you burn through his shirt, well you probably wouldn't but you can see where I am coming from.
