I love everything about Tolkki and Stratovarius but somehow the 2:46 keyboard solo is soooooo awful. My 8 years old daughter could do better.

thaman90, that's funny, where'd you hear that? I mean even though I'm sure you're aware that was probably thought up by either a huge Sab fan or a promoter, since it's obviously not the case. There's literally countless possibilities with riffs, but I know what you mean, of course. Few bands have influenced as many others' riffs as Iommi, just as few have influenced solos as much as Blackmore

of Purp and Rainbow fame.

thaman090, I agree, both these bands did pioneer in this sub-genre, but ultimately it is Iron Maiden who invented it.

If you look at music mags from the 80's through to today you'll see Maiden's been alternately named Power and/or Heavy Metal many times, sometimes refered to as proto-Power Metal, the way Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly were called proto-Heavy Metal before Deep Purple and Black Sabbath developed it into full Heavy Metal.
