@gravitywheel Hey could you please help me getting this to work on NitroGrafx? I'm about to pull my hair out because I've been trying for days to get it running. I've tried very combination of bin/cue, .iso + wav, and nothing is working, I just get a blank screen. Using NitroGrafx v0.5 and the Super CD v3 USA bios.
My JPN Mega CD gets action. The only Sega CD games I have that I can't really play on my JPN system are Lunar, Sewer Shark and NHL '94 (I have a hard time playing Lunar in Japanese and I don't have the JPN versions of the other two). So, it's just sitting in storage now
.As for comparisons, the Turbo CD has a higher potential resolution than the Sega CD and 8X more colours on screen. The Sega CD has a faster processor and better scaling and rotation effects. The Sega CD has 4MB of RAM white the Turbo CD has 64KB but is expandable to 2MB (Super CD) and 16MB (Arcade CD).
Nope The SEGA CD version is better since the system is more powerful so more sprites on screen and more and better graphics and sound. Turbo's version is still pretty good!
Hahaha. Nope. I have on my plans buying PC Engine DUO-R but I just say what I see. It is pretty remarkable the power of PC Engine I admit but the SEGA CD version is more polished, with "darker" graphics and heavier sound. The PCE version is more "raw" with colorful graphics. Both versions are excellent and I will buy the PCE version for a more thorough review. WTF is FEKA?? :P
Feka is the silly name TTI gave to Sega during their (failed) ad campaign in about 1992/93. "Who wants the CD system that Feka is offering when you get 5 free games with the Turboduo!!!". Something like that, anyway.
To be honest, I had a Sega CD in 1993 and had barely touched a Turbographx at the time. I prefer the sound on the Turbo version better because it's more raw. Reminds me of Iron Maiden or Rainbow more than the Sega-CD version does. The Turbo version used more colours. I like.
I own a PC Engine Duo and have a legit copy of this game. Unfortunately, I just have a burnt copy for my Mega-CD (JPN version). My poor American Sega CD is kind of neglected...
Too bad about your SEGA CD... :( I can't wait to get my hands on Duo, Lords of Thunder and many more great games I saw the PC Engine has to offer! Even though I was raised since 1989 with NES my first console I am a core SEGA fan, not a fanboy, but I must admit that it took me very long to see the glory of PC Engine, definetaly going to take the 2nd place in my heart!! Poor Nintendo :P
It's debatable which is better graphically, although when games are on both systems the Turbo CD games generally feature more colours and better quality video. What's not debatable is that the Turbo CD library is leaps and bounds better than the Sega CD library.
I originally got my Genesis/Sega CD in 1992/1993 (got my second set, Japanese models, this year). I got my first PC Engine last year (I have two). So, I've definitely been into the Sega CD for a while.
So thats what FEKA is.. LOOOL! Ok I see your point about the music.. I listen to heavy metal and especially the 70s rock and I agree with you. It is about personal like. But I was reffering for the quality of the sound and the prossecing capabilities, number of sprites, flickering between the two systems. I always go for the original games I hate emulators, I only have them if I can't find enough info or video for a game to see how it is so I can buy it ;)
I agree with your taste in music. As for the sound on the two systems, the background music is of the same quality. They're both CD and totally depend on your stereo system. For sound effects, generally the Sega CD is better than system 2.0 Turbo CD games... BUT Lords/Winds of Thunder is a SUPER CD game. The sound effects (not the music) isn't so limited by the RAM and really isn't much of an issue.
I'll check the flickering on PCE LoT maybe in a week or two when I have time.
I just ended up getting both the Turbo Duo and Sega CD versions. They are both awesome, the Turbo Duo version is MUCH harder, and the music is much heavier mixed. I also noticed a lot more detail and colors in the Duo version. The Sega CD has the talking shop keeper, but the sound effects are typical Sega bleeps and such. The voices are also louder and more menacing in the Duo, and bosses have more voices. Duo is the best version. Either is worth getting though. VERY difficult game.
Something else, I noticed on the Sega CD version using Kega Fusion that the sprites seem to flicker a bit with the larger enemies. Or if there is a whole bunch of crystals at the same time they flicker too. The Sega CD is quicker when you scroll through the armor sets, and there is a moment where you get stunned when you get hit in the Sega CD version. In the Turbo version you get hit but can move through it. This makes it harder because you can get hit over and over in the Turbo.
Wii customers: GET THIS GAME. I bought it in 1993 and IMO still has the best soundtrack I ever heard, better than the sega version (it's harder/more heavy metal-ish). It's hard difficulty, fun to play, but not so hard you can't finish it. Great boss design too (as opposed to the earlier comment.. see I actually PLAYED this game for years, so I know). I'd buy it if I already didn't have the original disc. Since I have the disc I can rip the music if any of you want, it's outstanding metal music.
Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that the Sega CD arrangement was watered down. It's just too bad that the recording for the Turbo version is kinda flat and screechy. Can't have everything, I suppose.
That's the perfect words for it, watered down. Everyone and their brother swears that the Sega version music is better. Technically that's right, the recording quality is way better. But the music itself was too 'watered down', too 'fantasized' for my taste. Give me head banging heavy guitar any day. Give me turbo or give me death. Turbo version RULES.
Let's...get...predictable!! Over half of those enemies look like dragons. Wow, it must have taken some kind of creative genius to imagine all of that clever enemy design variety!
If you have a problem with the 8$ then by all means go spend three times that to FIND a TG16 and three times that again to find a working copy of the game. While your doing that, ill be enjoying this gem. Cya.
god i dont get how people still bitch about the price of the games on the vc,these games before were 30-40 dollars,.at 8 dollars its a steal. now all we need are all 5 of the y`s games from the duo, cosmic fantasy.,castlevania, loom, majoras mask, yoshi island, final fantasy 6,chrono trigger. but serious the pricess are good, they need to still make money people
This is gonna be the Virtual Console release for Monday. But I'm really disappointed.I wanted Contra: Hard Corps or The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
I love being right all the time. Okay so it's not all the time. Okay it's not even very often, I get it. But you had to know that Hudson would slap this one on the VC. It's probably the most popular Turbo CD title of them all.
Well I think we might see it here, but it's a longshot, at best. It has the Japanese text in the middle scenes which might keep it from seeing a US release. Amazing game though.
I think this game will show up on the wii. At the very least I hope so hehe. The music is so awesome. I don't think they make stuff like this anymore T_T
Man i've been bugging Hudson so much on their official forums...I swear if this is one of the first Turbo DUO games to hit the VC since the CD games have been confirmed, its a day 1 purchase!
Oh its possible. Hudson actually listens to its fans (for the most part) and has a sort of official vote for next VC title on their forums. Besides Lords of Thunder already released in North America back in the day...both on Turbo DUO and later on, a slightly watered down Sega CD version(music wise anyway).
