  • anyone from townsville interested in model rockets???????????

  • but your dad didnt launch it D:

  • been a long time since i had any,but flight systems use to sell f40's that would probally have done the same work with one motor.they were still black powder, but then were only 5 bucks a piece.

  • Not bad.

Any idea as to why the one engine fired late?

  • not quite like the os one. wrong find design, no nozzle, letters not the wright writing and nose cone was the wrong shape, so its a look alike but nothing like the real miss riley

  • parachute damnit

  • We're broadcasting Rocket launches live for a new game from Intel and Dick Smith called Turboboost Touchdown. We're using 5 cameras + 2 onboard cameras and 9 different C,D and E engine fully decal'd rockets.

  • Wheres the nozzle?

  • It was unstable and went to only about 300m.

But it was a cool video thank you.

  • Parachute Damn-it!

  • Nice launch! I just watched this movie, it was great.

  • Not quite $100 Australian. The engines were $55 though and that included building the launcher and pad from scratch.

  • that was good. how much was spent on this project?

  • wasn't as good as the ones that the rocket boys used

  • rocket seemed to be slightly unstable or maybe it was the wind

  • One of the engines fired late so it flew off to the side a bit at first.

  • Awsome Launch!

  • Damn clever attaching the leads to your car battery man, thats ingenuity!

  • I live near where this movie was made... The old steam engine in the movie went right by my house three times... My Dads got an old friend down in Oliver Springs (Where the movie was shot) and they used his old hospital building for a few shots and they gave him all kinds of stuff.. He even has the "Miss Riley" rocket. I've seen it.

  • Incase your wondering I meant the real "October sky" movie.. Not this film. lol

  • He may have one of the rockets that was named "Miss Riley" but they were like 5 of them built.

The town of Coalwood is in possession of the actual rocket that was launched in the movie.

  • Right, I understand, all I know about it is, its a "Miss Riley" Rockt and was used in the film, I've seen it and all the other stuff. but haven't ever asked much about it. I'm gonna be down there Friday and Saturday, I'll take a video camera with me and show some of the biludings and stuff that was used in the film. Thanks for the reply too!

  • I wanna build a rocket like the REAL Miss Riley in the moive. I don't think they used an engine.Wasn't it chemicals?

  • did you guys really make that rocket? or did you just buy it and paint Miss Riley on it?

  • made it from the start. everything was made with stuff around the house. postage tubes, cardboard, foam and balsa wood

  • lol! "parchute, damn it!!" hilarious!

  • thats so cool. bye bye miss riley!

  • cool!

hope i can build a rocket too one day.

  • The Miss Riely in OS was way bigger. Even taller than O'dell.

  • cool

  • Too bad it didn't go straight like the Miss Riley in OS.

  • not bad..did u use much maths

  • haha not really, just Rocksim and SpaceCad 4

  • Aw I loved that movie! It was amazing too because the site looked like the one in the movie a bit...unless it was the same place but I think the one in the movie was Snake somethin-or-other...

  • nah its not from the movie, i just made it to look similar

  • Thanks. If you can get the engines to fire at the same time, the rocket will go about 1050 ft. One engine fired a little late on mine, which is why it curved. Mine flew to 850 ft. It weighed roughly 750 grams on takeoff.

  • Cool. How heavy was it and how high did it go?

  • That was great...how do you do it?

  • thanks, i built the rocket from 2 720mm x 60mm mailing tubes joined inside with a softdrink can. The fins were balsa glued with hot glue and the nose cone was carved foam. I used 3 estes e9-6 engines rolled in cardboard and glued together and glued inside the tube with a tight fit. I used a car battery to ignite the engines. I can send the rocksim file by email if you like.

  • can u send me the rocksim file? :)
