That is true they were one of the better L A strip bands from that time when they played the pantagest there they were actually getting better fan fair than the likes of groups like helix quiet riot and a few others from the early 80's
@hashguy68 if you were in the strip scene in 80's you are grown man now... Correct? And you are telling that this song made chicks wild?? Have u also started smokin crack? Yeah i know that even the worst bands, like odin, had their groupies but you cant be serious... And you still dig this?? I'll bet there were 2000 other bands who didnt make it and sounded 200,000 times better than odin.
hashguy68 was smoking too much reefer "back in the day" ~ because ODIN was pretty much listened to by pimple faced boys in their bedrooms. Girls were listening to Duran Duran or Ratt circa 1985. Still a great song and I admit to having the white vinyl version but never saw any panties fall off to this tune...
Bman you are the joke. Odin rocks. You are probably a fan of Nirvana and any band who is fronted by a bald man in a bowling shirt. 2 chords and a cloud of dust. Thats when rock n roll was ruined forever. Or maybe you like todays music that consists of one keyboard programmed song and all the artist do is change the lyrics over it. Metal had balls that you obviously never had. The best music and musicians there ever were were from this genre. Keep posting great vids like this.
I'm all about the 80's... but seriously, this is horrible. Loved them in 'Decine'... they had the same attitude all of us had back in the day, but they were just plain horrible. Audio diarrhea.

They're even more ridiculous than I first thought when I saw the Decline of Western Civ Part II. This clearly shows why Odin never got signed. I'm embarrassed for them. It's hard to avoid laughing myself silly at how awful everything about this is. If anyone younger than 20 wants to know why the LA Metal scene died as we entered the 1990s, show them videos from Motley Crue, then Dokken, then Poison, and then Odin. That should perfectly illustrate how the metal scene became a joke.
...and, all of a sudden, 1989 comes back to me. You guys kicked ass ( country club reseda ) If you werent there back in the day, you really dont understand- and you Really missed out!
They have weird faces, can't put my finger on it, something about their mouths, maybe. Their guitars are too thick. Why do they have a problem with someone wanting to start a mosh pit? It's like they're going way out of their way to send the message that people who want to mosh are unwelcome at their shows. Uh...oh yeah, those muliple closeups of the weird looking shoe (boot?) was also weird.

@flemmasterj Let's see you do better, 20yrs ago. I knew these guys, they opened for Dokken and Keel? at the Hollywood Palladium way back then..... and put on a great show. Jeff Duncan is in DC4, Armored Saint, Odin, another band... wtf is your problem? I'ts a great song that represents the times perfectly. \m/
No punks allowed in the hair metal crowd! From today's point of view this video in its almost embarrassing cheesiness becomes entertaining again. Why was it that even the most average hair metal bands had great lead guitarists?
I don't mean to dis on this because tastes vary. However, this band is not heavy enough to be worthy of the name of Odin. They're very pretty. Perhaps they should have named their band Baldur.
These guys made excellent music and never got enough credit for their style shaping the wave of the LA music scene, I was there and they ripped it up with their music...
It is truly a puzzle how these guys never rose above being a local act- they had it all!! Jeff Duncan is one amazing guitarist, and now he's teamed up with Rowan Robertson to form the greatest guitar duo EVER in DC4.
Holy Shit!!! I have this EP on cassette. It took my 3 years looking in all the used music stores all over Southern California to find it. If I remeber correctly, the best song on the album is titled The Eye. The intro is demon voice psycho babble then the legendary scream kicks in that lasts for ever.
These guys should have made it big. The guitar player actually Amoured Saint. I went to High Schoool with Randy O's cousin Jerry Dixon from Warrant. This is a great song.
i remember me, and my friend tim seeing odin every time they played in hollywood, gazzaries, roxy, the wiskey. while driving to a show one time, we ran into a street near sunset bl. called odin. we were always up front, banging are heads like we always did, the singer randy o stopped and looked at tim and i, and said, "see these guys up here? i want you guys to rock like these guys are"! and gave us one of those cool hand slaps. if i only had a time machine. dose anyone have one?
man this song is a masterpiece. A timestamp of what was going on in in 84-85 oh metal and arena rock. I cant really understand why these guys didnt make it HUGE after this album, especially with this song on it. So well written - the mix of light and shade with the guitars and harmonies is poetic. Randy 0 has an AMAZING voice and can hit the highs with the best of them.

I used to go see this band @ The Country Club when I was in the 7th grade. I had a guitar pick from Jeff, and a b/w glossy of the band. I was down wit Odin in the early years. =P
why didn't a label ever pick this up? The Decline of Western Civil...was shot like in what?..'87? It seems these guys would have been way more popular atleast by '90 because they were sighning every band from the Sunset-striip..really horrible bands had videos all over Mtv ..it really got out-of-control. This genre could never happen again these guys grew-up on real 70's guitar-heros' and had big dreams..
@gmlasam I was going to post that i saw these guys at gazzaris on the strip back in the eighties. Those were some damn good times. I think i played every bar and club in hollywood, all a memory now, lol.
dawnrexgurl..haha...hey, I thought i was the only one who remembered u68...the show was called the "Power Hour"..I think it came on at midnight..loved it..
I was 18 when this song came out. I had just move to Morongo Valley in the High Desert in California. I heard it on a radio station out of Palm Springs one night and those of you who lived in Morongo remember the crappy reception because of the mountain range. well, even with the crappy reception I still loved the song.
Good song but the video is gay, no offense to gay people reading this comment, its a figure of speech, kinda like cheesy. If you listen and dont look its cool but once you look at the video....gay.
Motley Crue wrote better songs and there bad boy looks & attitude play a big role with them. Dont get me wrong I have the re-released CD from these guys and I play th shit out of this song. I think ODIN was a great band and definitely this song I love it 'but they sure were no MOTLEY CRUE!
If you have the song, "THE WRITER," please post it. Just put the white album cover (with Odin on it), and play the friggin song. The awesome screams in that song kicks ass.
Vinyl was white. Odin from Glendale CA. Aaron was the bass player. Jeff Duncan on Mike Accardi's green Kramer. Jeff's brother on drums. "The Writer" was a song off the album and so was "Judgement Day" which totally kicked ass... somebody post it please!
I have this album on white vinyl and if I am not mistaken, it is the bass player who wrote this song. Then I think after the decline movie they kicked him out of the band. Dumb mistake they made becouse this was the best song they had. Does any body remember u68 in New Jersey in 1985? This is where I saw this video.
Man I have been searching for this song for years. I only heard it on the radio back in the mid 80's. (Razzm Radio) Brings back great memories. Thanks for posting. Now I gotta have more Odin..
But actually, this song is better after a second listen. It's not a bad song really. I like the guitar riff too. Arranged well too. Their other songs I've listened to and wasn't as impressed though. But I change my mind about this song. So sory for the evil comments from before.
That is true they were one of the better L A strip bands from that time when they played the pantagest there they were actually getting better fan fair than the likes of groups like helix quiet riot and a few others from the early 80's

"A glowing woman, next to my maaaahind" ???
There's no excuse for lyrics that bad. Even his faux-earnest delivery can't save that abomination.
And without the music, these lyrics read like a hastily written Hallmark greeting card by Adam Sandler.
What about: "She softly whispers WE'LL NEVER PAAAART!!!!!!"
Maybe that sounds like a whisper when you've wasted your hearing on GOD AWFUL HAIRMETAL!!!!!!
Seriously, there's good metal out there, but this is what many people think it all sounds like.

This genre could never happen again these guys grew-up on real 70's guitar-heros' and had big dreams..

Man this brings back memories. I saw Odin in the mid 80s at the sunset strip in hollywood. They were playing at Gazzaris. Man I miss those times.

I think this was the commercial radio version. There was a much longer solo on the white vinyl. Odin was very underrated.

The video is absolutely shocking, but musically the band are great. Sure, they were no Motley Crue, but then neither were Skid Row.

This band isnt that bad I'v heard way fucking worse music that has been signed by major labels.

I was 18 when this song came out. I had just move to Morongo Valley in the High Desert in California. I heard it on a radio station out of Palm Springs one night and those of you who lived in Morongo remember the crappy reception because of the mountain range. well, even with the crappy reception I still loved the song.

Well I'll be. This was posted on my 12th bday. :P
Seriously, I love everything by Odin. The best lost band of the 80s for sure! I don't even mind the big hair... lol.

Good song but the video is gay, no offense to gay people reading this comment, its a figure of speech, kinda like cheesy. If you listen and dont look its cool but once you look at the video....gay.

I can not believe I found this on YouTube!
Odin was hands down the best band of the hair band era! It's a crying shame that Motley Crue made it as far as they did and these guys did not.
movblade 3 years ago
Motley Crue wrote better songs and there bad boy looks & attitude play a big role with them. Dont get me wrong I have the re-released CD from these guys and I play th shit out of this song. I think ODIN was a great band and definitely this song I love it 'but they sure were no MOTLEY CRUE!

If you have the song, "THE WRITER," please post it. Just put the white album cover (with Odin on it), and play the friggin song. The awesome screams in that song kicks ass.
Thanks for posting!!

Cool Song.I do know some of the others they've had,but they are not really that what I would call excellent.
But this song and video kick ass!
Thank's for posting.Otherwise I've never found it!

The lead singer says: "We're gonna make it! We're going to be as big as Zeppelin and the Beatles. If not then I'll kill myself!"
Well I guess he's dead now.
And I'm going to say the same thing about this performance that some other guy said on another Odin video:
Shit Sandwich.

But actually, this song is better after a second listen. It's not a bad song really. I like the guitar riff too. Arranged well too. Their other songs I've listened to and wasn't as impressed though. But I change my mind about this song. So sory for the evil comments from before.
acidtones1 3 years ago
well some glam bands didn't get credit for being good because there were so many. Was he drunk when he said that?
