I love flying. without the actual movement and being in the aircraft there's a lot missing in a video clip though. I can get amazingly realistic visuals in my flight simulator, with the added bonus of seeing everything from the front seat and being able to look in every direction. I wish I could hear more of the engine.
How do they safely end a race like this? ....at these speeds. I mean, if the lead crosses the finish line and slows down, there's the chance that someone could rapidly overtake him at one or two hundred miles per hour difference. At some point does the Tower start giving them vectors for landing and some sort of approach priorities? Or maybe after crossing finish line, climb on heading to pattern altitude and squawk ident for landing instructions....? Do these aircraft have TCAS?
@JetMechMA When the race is finished they pull up and off the course and circle the pattern at altitude or higher allowing the engines to cool until all aircraft have finished then the tower will start allowing them to call for the pattern for landing.
The bronze class is primarily planes that are completely stock. Silver have some modifications, but not much. Gold planes are highly modified engines and airframes. All the planes are WWII era.
@hawker445 Yeah he is slow, a few years ago Tom Camp qualified only a few mph above the minimum speed but Tom is not out there to win he just races for fun. Plus it is great to see that tubby little thing out there.
looks like so much fun
i want to do this

Great to see those old war birds still have some life left in them.
