@MrVac14 its a REALLY GOOD CAR. YOU CAN GET EITHER THE FULLY EQUPTED ODY (LEATHER SEATS AND MOR FEATURES) or the non complet which i have. its more worth the non complet but if you have kids tht cant stand long trips get the fully loaded one :)
What is it that makes these people disparage minivans on just about every road test? And why do they put minivans on the track to test cornering Gs but not mention either's mpg, visibility or turning circle?
@AshtonPhoto your right to some extent. i dont care which one i drive although if i were to pick i get the odyssey. when it comes to van, you dont really care much about the handling and power you rather get the average out of it. which i mean something that isnt a big draw back like too loud, problem with the engine etc. something you can be ok to cruise in a long road trip while you can relax.
I pick the Caravan, and please stop criticizing it! Dodge was a pioneer in minivans, much time later Honda came. In my case, I own a 2007 Kia Sedona that runs grat (I had a 2001 Caravan that I loved), but searching for something new (we don't have Sienna's or Odyssey's in Argentina, we have the Sedona, the Peugeot 807 (search it) and the Town & Country, here minivans aren't so common as in the US).
@pancho1101 you are a piece of work dude!!! how can you even say that dodge caravan is a pioneer for minivans??? ever heard of Volkswagen? The first true minivan was created by them. Now C'mon you think US is capable of inventing things that really work without copying first?
My mom just bought a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT exactly like the one shown in this video (same color, engine, options) and she loves it! It was Dodge certified and has only 21,000 miles on it. She traded in a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE and does not regret getting another Sienna. USA DODGE!!
We had a Caravan. It blew a head gasket. Not from where you would expect, combustion chamber to water jacket. But from the water jacket to the outside. There is only a few pounds of pressure there. But that's were it blew. There is only one reason for that to happen. Poor machining of the matting surfaces!! The caravan is crap! We then got an Odyssey. It now has over 200K miles and still going strong. Dodge Caravans are trash.
I have driven both new 2010 Dodge and 2010 Odyssey. Dodge feels like you in a plane cus of the inside lighting feature and the TouchScreen DVD and backup can is a Plus. but ride quality and handling sucks big time. On the other hand Odyssey feels more well built and great handling. After all it's a Honda. A name you can trust always.
Plus in the long run it will last longer and worth something. Thats why I Bought a Odyssey.... ;)
The gran caravan has a great DVD and more but.... The Honda is better I had a grand caravan and change the spark plug is very difficult now I have a odyssey and it is easy and quick.
I've owned both models. Bottom line is the Chrysler feels great until it's about 2 years old. The Odyssey still feels new after 7 years and 175k kms. Fully loaded the Chrysler has questionable stopping power - I'd leave extra room in front on the highway. The Odyssey never worried me for stopping power. And when you trade it in - the Honda is actually still worth something. You decide - do you want good brakes or an extra DVD screen?
The 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan is one of the best family vans on the road today. I recommend one to those who are looking for a family vehicle for the children.
There is no such thing as a Mom's car. Cars are not gender specific. my friend picked up a 99 dodge caravan at an auction for 600 bucks!...i was pretty jealous...until on the way home....a head gasket blew....then 3 months later the tranny took a shit....so his 600 dollar deal..turned into a 3700 nightmare :/...fuck you dodge!!!....155k on the clock and the engine and tranny shit its diaper :(....i had a dodge neon for a while..it was zippy and great on gas..but God strike me down if i am lying...the build quality was a step below laughable.
I have had the honda Odessy(1999) for a few years, bought it used with over 100,000 miles on it,have never had any problems other than a bad spark plug cylinder wire and have put over 60,000 miles on it.Honda is definately reliable and built to last.I will be getting a newer Odessy in the near future,it is simply the best minivan on the market.
I have a '99 Odessy and a 2006 Chrysler town & Country, and I like both, but the odessy has more room and a more powerful engine, the chrysler rides like a Cadilac...In my opinion Honda Odessy is truely the greater of the 2,Honda has more engine power, more cargo room and more features. My next van,if I decide to get one, will definately be a later model Honda Odessy 2005-2011.
The 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan is one of the best family vans on the road today. I recommend one to those who are looking for a family vehicle for the children.
well we own a 2008 dodge grand caravan and sofar its been a piece of crap.
all of the other cars that we have had lets say a ford taraus and a f150,ford mustang ford windstar and chevy caprice.i cant have a minivan its not my style it shifts awful it has no power and uncomfortable.
i would rather have a ford escape or a ford anyways i have always liked ford and honda but i have always hated dodge.
I'm definitely looking forward to what 2011 will bring in the minivan segment. Just about all of the low-quality bullshit from the Daimler years has been taken out of the Chrysler and Dodge minivans this year, and when I sat in a Chrysler and Honda minivan at an autoshow last weekend, the Chrysler was the clear winner through its sheer art deco personality. Also, Ralph Gilles (CEO of Dodge brand) has declared that all Dodge-branded vehicles must feel sporty, so they're making a Caravan R/T!
I really couldn't imagine anyone IN THEIR RIGHT MIND choosing a Chrysler product over the Honda AND paying more for it!!! Remember, Chrysler is the company Fiat wouldn't buy...
@Mrphatbastard1 You get more for your money by buying Chrysler. The new 2011 T&C comes standard with touchscreen nav. Dont see that in your little base Odyssey.
these are great as with the new stow n go seating you can use it as a work van or family car. How many other cars have stow n go seating? i can think of very few. Did you know you get get stow n go seating for youre home now also. that is so cool to have stow n go seating in ur home. one minute
hahah dodge transmission went to Limp-in-Mode after the quarter mile run 85mph into 2nd gear. Had a Honda in the family since '76 and gonna keep it that way .
Honda oddysey van is horrible and dangerous! It's is not REALLY a safe family car. Just a couple of days ago, the car brakes wouldn't stop so one of my family members crashed and got injured!
Solution - don't push it hard then. Don't drive too fast around corners. The Chrysler van's interior is very plasticky and cheap though. I guess that's why it is priced low.
@cream10451 honda has been plagued by reliability problems as well, old hondas were made to last not new ones.I have a 2008 dodge grand caravan with 35k and never had a single problem except some cosmetic weather stripping problem which was quickly fixed, edmunds has always been biased against favors american cars and always favors asian cars while other magazines praise cars edmunds is the only one who is biased against american cars. And btw the transmission is very reliable, check my vids.
@cream10451 honda odyssey had one of the worst transmission search for urself i have one and had to change the transmission twice and it only has 65 k miles but engine well it has a very nice engine and last forever
@cream10451 i see there's plenty of honda fanboys here ready to bash the dodge minivan what did ALSO forgot to mention is this minivan belongs to the test fleet that companies give out to reviewers, and they torture the minivans to death, honda is not far behind for faliure.Honda today is a POS back then different story but today POS,and the transmission is strong and built to last my minivan has 34000miles and not a single problem like that cropped up, maybe they did on purpose///
@cream10451 also one last thing if it wasn't for the dodge grand caravan there would be no precious honda odessey! or toyota sienna chrysler invented the minivan here in the USA(not talking about europe where they really invented the minivan), later on nissan toyota and honda copied so stop b.s.ing and dissing
@Captainbob25202000 I like How You Mentioned the top 2 selling minivans in American, Honda And Toyota. Too bad you wont see any Japanese or Chinese buying this American made crap caravan.
@cream10451 well if obama keeps going he wants to stop making those crap hondas here, and toyotas and hyundai's and start exporting our cars to the other nations that want to shove their cars to us, i admit hondas from today are POS compared to an old honda and toyota, im talking late 80's early 90's to about 1996 toyotas and hondas were reliable and indestructible!,today...they are just on par with american brands recalls everywhere, nice to see ford is has moved up the list in quality
@Captainbob25202000 LOL! Ford Fusions have wheels that fall off...check out the recall. LOL! Your funny. Since most of Honda's are made here in America, you are still supporting American workers by buying a Honda. Plus resell value is way higher on a Honda than any domestic. It doesn't even make fiscal sense to buy an Domestic vehicle anyways. The parts are made cheaper and fall apart faster than Toyota or Honda. Mitsubishi quality is apples to apples with domestic's.
@cream10451 Your fucking retarded dodge had a lifetime power train Warranty in 2008 so if that tranny ever blew dodge would replace it for free. I dont think honda has that!
@gardmans1 Well here: I can give you basically how that would go.. Here we have yet another tired attempt by Chrysler to glue more shit onto the 1984 model, versus this remarkable GM product. Remarkable because of how long it took for someone to realize that the production line was still running. Underpowered, uglier than shit and a third row that is more annoying folded than it is upright! LOLWUT
"best for breeders" Best for us queers as well! Sexiest goddamn minivan ever built, always there for me to do just about whatever I need it for and that includes a mobile bedroom.
hmm the announcer feels like one of those honda fanboys that likes to bash on anything that's not honda... i have a 2008 it only has 30k miles its great..the braking problem occurs because of a problem with the brakes which were voluntarily recalled and braking power has improved alot..and hondas are not safe either toyota and hondas have declined () in quality up to worse than ford which has taken the crown of domestic automaker.
WELL,HONDA IS BETTER BECUZ ITS MADE IN JAPAN AND HAS A BETTER ENGINED HONDA WOULD LAST ABOUT 300-400000 MILES AND A AMERICAN CAR IS 200-270000 MILES.......LIKE A 89 HONDA CRX MY UNCLE HAS 1 IT HAS 311000 MILES STILL WORKSS LIKE IT WAS NEW...
Im sorry i like the caravan u can stow the seats.. i like the town and country limited... screw honda and toyota... i want a minivan but it will be chryslers so i dont care how yall haters feel...all cars have up and downs. love the caravan too....
@Gapandgold Well you enjoy your cheaper plastics, engine troubles and laughable second row seats. I'm quite happy removing mine in favor of, I dunno- comfort and quality? lulz
what you must understand is that the round caravans are disgustingly un attractive. the 94 vans where better than those rouns ones. im glad they are back to an angular van.....
but everyone has the opinion and might say its better but i have droven both as some people havent so dodge won my opinion love there swivel n go idea
@josh96rosco Come on, don't lie to us!!! You just hated your Odyssey because you either missed the hell out of your mechanic or missed always working on it to keep it running!!!!!!!
the odyssey is the most overhyped car(second only to the prius) its pointless to do any comparison because the "odyssey is best at everything" the only comparison ive seen that the odyssey didnt win was in a comp. with a 2011 Sienna
@iSlomobrandon Just wait until you see the 2011 Odyssey, absolutely sick man. Makes you wonder how far QUALITY auto makers are willing to go with minivans.....The innovations in the new Honda are absolutely mind boggling.
@nicknack575 I definitely disagree dude, but you're entitled to your own opinion just as I've seen people driving around in lime green cars chromed out to the T. I may think they're classless and an eye sore, but they may feel that's hot stuff. The Honda just looks better that the Toyota in MY opinion
Yeah, the Dodge may be faster, but, fast isnt what you buy a Minivan for, you buy a minivan for family friendliness, and thats where the Honda is the best!
why the fuck did they do 0-60... and why would anyone who seriously want to buy a minivan.... care... you buy them because u just wanna buy somethin that will carry your family around, not because of the 0-60 time somethin to throw around on a track. its not a viper or an nsx... its not even near the civic or the neon.... :P
I happily own a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. It's a really nice car. Old, yet classy and luxurious. I have a good mechanic and the previous owner took good care of it. I am handicapped too, so it is adapted well for me. Grand Caravans are the best for converting for a disabled person. And it feels fast and drives nice.
@kaotik1981 V6 is needed for the loads they carry, as you've mentioned. As an owner, this is accurate. A 4 cylinder in a 4400lb people mover is a dog. As far as fuel, the 2011 Ody gets the same mileage as the 2.4L Mazda5 w/manual transmission. And hybrids are shit because any emissions saved are more than made up for with the emissions required to build hybrids. If combustion engines became obsolete they wouldn't be around.
@soccermomd00d For what is to be carried in a minivan [essentially more interior volume means you can carry much more than in a large SUV] I would think torque is what really matters more, so my proposal is to put turbo diesels in minivans. 4 cylinder turbo diesels have either as much or more torque than some/most V6 gasoline engines today.
@banstaman Here's to that! There was all sorts of speculation as to whether Honda was going to go that route for 2011, and unfortunately they didn't. It seems that the Brits have the edge on North America in that sense.
I predict that Toyota will start experimenting publicly with diesel first, and when Honda's found a way to do it even better, with more efficiency, more power, more torque, they'll follow suit with the Ridgeline, Pilot, and Odyssey-perhaps even in that order.
We had to buy the dreaded minivan but I swear my Odyssey drives better than most cars I've owned and it can haul ass when it needs to.NO way would I buy a Dodge minivanif youmust buy a minivan go for the Odyssey you will not regret it plus they hold their value much better than any other van.
Damn!! Look at the body roll of the dodge to the honda in the slalom. the dodge looks like the suspension is already gone, where as the honda stays stable threw the whole thing....I'd say I'd buy the Honda
OK.. to be totally fair the Odyssey kicks ass and the Dodge is a rolling sardine can with seats. I mean it's not even a compitition, the Odyssey just whoops ass!!!
I own a 2007 Dodge. Bought it 2 months ago with just 30K miles and it's completely dead. We had to call a tower twice. Wish I went with Honda. I will never buy another American vehicle again.
Did i hear right? $4k more than the odyssey's $35k price? $40k is way too much for a minivan even if its fully loaded, hell even $35k for that matter.
Honestly folks, I own a 2000 Odyssey with 302,000 miles and the A/C's still ice cold, & the engine still runs quiet and can move on anyone on any highway. I test drove a 2010 Caravan last Nov outta curiosity, & I'll rather cut off both my hands than own a damn Dodge. The tranny shifted with uncertainty & the engine power loss with the A/C running was significant. Dodge has some major lessons to learn, especially since they basically invented the minivan in the 1st place. WTF???
@orangegold1 Yeah I might've been a little emotional in proffesing my love for Honda (lol) but I'm dead serious I dont fore see any Dodge's in my future EVER!!! By the way I still get up to 130 mph in my 2000 Odyssey (now clocking about 306,900 miles) stock engine, with 5 adults in tow. Hate to see you try that in a Caravan......
@Danexman I agree. My dad owned a 2001 Dodge Caravan and I told him to get a 2007 Honda Odyssey for his next car, and he did and he was shocked at how you could not feel any power loss with the A/C on. Its the same way with my Accord and thats a 4 cylinder, I feel no power loss with A/C on full blast.
@Seirei0417 Your dad's in good company, Honda's are the truth. People can get into all kinds of debate about the Dodge vs the Honda, but MY truth lies with the Honda. Most of my family have either owned Hondas in the past or currently own 1. No one in their right mind would actually test drive both cars & buy the Dodge. When I show mechanics the mileage they just shake their heads in disbelief. I'm actually in the market for an Accord Crosstour now & still plan to keep my Odyssey - TRUE STORY
I do like the dodge grand caravan, But everything on the car is very, very cheap. We have a 2005 and everytime you hit a bump the dashboard raddles very bad. The seals rear doors are very creeky. The chrome is falling off the back lettering. The auto-matic door and door locks are sometimes un-responsive. And the panels near the steering wheel are falling off. But the van is very quick. also the transmission isn't so hot it takes a very long time to shift gears, but overall the preformance is ok.
does anyone want the true reason why the forign cars have better stuff its because the union want money and the american companys cant stay open and built nice interiors at the same time the forgin companys dont pay the union thats why there "interiors" are nicer shut the unoin down and american cars will destroy forgin cars there will not be hondas our toyotas . DODGE 4 EVER SUCKA
@vinnie457 The UAW is mostly responsible for the collapse of detroit. America can build cars well, it's the UAW that destroys things. If I'm not mistaken Honda's plants in Ohio build our cars and are NOT unionized and match [or even exceed] the quality of the same models made in Japan. Same applies to other import brands such as Toyota and Hyundai-Kia. Let's not forget execs who only care about profits.
Look up recalls, that's a good start. Dodge brakes last 20-30k miles for FULL brakejob replacement. Even the stock tires last only 40k. I could go on for a while as a long time Dodge employee....cheap parts and design add up to a bad vehicle. There is a reason it costs thousands less than a Quest or Oddysey.
r u kidding me a fully loaded top of the line 2010 grand caravan is like maybe 30k a fully loaded top of the line odyssey is around 50k-55k nice try tho
@willowcairns DUDE MY FATHER-IN-LAW JUST WENT AND PICK UP A FULLY LOADED TOP OF THE LINE GRAND CARAVAN COST HIM $35,895 OUT THE DOOR CANADIAN !!!! AND A BRAND NEW ODYSSEY WOULD HAVE COST HIM 47,795 ..... SOO DONT TELL ME THE PRICING THE OTHER WAY U SHOULD CHECK THIS SHIT OUT !!!!!! FIRST BEFORE U POST SHIT ON HERE THATS NOT EVEN RIGHT ...

well we own a 2008 dodge grand caravan and sofar its been a piece of crap.
all of the other cars that we have had lets say a ford taraus and a f150,ford mustang ford windstar and chevy caprice.i cant have a minivan its not my style it shifts awful it has no power and uncomfortable.
i would rather have a ford escape or a ford anyways i have always liked ford and honda but i have always hated dodge.

I like the Odyssey more. More Spacious and last larger. Plus it got good test crash testing.

@YummyMusicCooking7 the only oddysey recall is the soft brake recall, but the pedal was just spongy. it would still stop...
chevyblows2001 1 year ago
Solution - don't push it hard then. Don't drive too fast around corners. The Chrysler van's interior is very plasticky and cheap though. I guess that's why it is priced low.
gordon777777 1 year ago
@gordon777777 uhm no...the dodge was actually more expensive than the Honda. And BTW getting just 250HP from a 4.0 is just embarassing.

Yeah and they forgot to mention that after that test Dodge had to install a New Transmission on the Test Van. Honda is Made to Last.
cream10451 1 year ago 26
@cream10451 honda has been plagued by reliability problems as well, old hondas were made to last not new ones.I have a 2008 dodge grand caravan with 35k and never had a single problem except some cosmetic weather stripping problem which was quickly fixed, edmunds has always been biased against favors american cars and always favors asian cars while other magazines praise cars edmunds is the only one who is biased against american cars. And btw the transmission is very reliable, check my vids.

SPADES6o6 8 months ago
@cream10451 i see there's plenty of honda fanboys here ready to bash the dodge minivan what did ALSO forgot to mention is this minivan belongs to the test fleet that companies give out to reviewers, and they torture the minivans to death, honda is not far behind for faliure.Honda today is a POS back then different story but today POS,and the transmission is strong and built to last my minivan has 34000miles and not a single problem like that cropped up, maybe they did on purpose///
Captainbob25202000 8 months ago
@cream10451 also one last thing if it wasn't for the dodge grand caravan there would be no precious honda odessey! or toyota sienna chrysler invented the minivan here in the USA(not talking about europe where they really invented the minivan), later on nissan toyota and honda copied so stop b.s.ing and dissing
Captainbob25202000 8 months ago
@Captainbob25202000 I like How You Mentioned the top 2 selling minivans in American, Honda And Toyota. Too bad you wont see any Japanese or Chinese buying this American made crap caravan.
cream10451 4 months ago
@cream10451 well if obama keeps going he wants to stop making those crap hondas here, and toyotas and hyundai's and start exporting our cars to the other nations that want to shove their cars to us, i admit hondas from today are POS compared to an old honda and toyota, im talking late 80's early 90's to about 1996 toyotas and hondas were reliable and indestructible!,today...they are just on par with american brands recalls everywhere, nice to see ford is has moved up the list in quality
Captainbob25202000 4 months ago
@Captainbob25202000 LOL! Ford Fusions have wheels that fall off...check out the recall. LOL! Your funny. Since most of Honda's are made here in America, you are still supporting American workers by buying a Honda. Plus resell value is way higher on a Honda than any domestic. It doesn't even make fiscal sense to buy an Domestic vehicle anyways. The parts are made cheaper and fall apart faster than Toyota or Honda. Mitsubishi quality is apples to apples with domestic's.

hmm the announcer feels like one of those honda fanboys that likes to bash on anything that's not honda... i have a 2008 it only has 30k miles its great..the braking problem occurs because of a problem with the brakes which were voluntarily recalled and braking power has improved alot..and hondas are not safe either toyota and hondas have declined () in quality up to worse than ford which has taken the crown of domestic automaker.

Tris51 1 year ago
Why does a MOM need a v6 engine? 4.0 LITERS? what. the. hell. Its a fuel cemetery. (oh almost forgot, it has to carry 6-9 obese elephants)
Switch to hybrid at least. Combustion engines became obsolete almost 100 years ago! Any electric engine can beat their performance
kaotik1981 1 year ago
@kaotik1981 V6 is needed for the loads they carry, as you've mentioned. As an owner, this is accurate. A 4 cylinder in a 4400lb people mover is a dog. As far as fuel, the 2011 Ody gets the same mileage as the 2.4L Mazda5 w/manual transmission. And hybrids are shit because any emissions saved are more than made up for with the emissions required to build hybrids. If combustion engines became obsolete they wouldn't be around.
soccermomd00d 1 year ago
@soccermomd00d For what is to be carried in a minivan [essentially more interior volume means you can carry much more than in a large SUV] I would think torque is what really matters more, so my proposal is to put turbo diesels in minivans. 4 cylinder turbo diesels have either as much or more torque than some/most V6 gasoline engines today.
banstaman 1 year ago
@banstaman Here's to that! There was all sorts of speculation as to whether Honda was going to go that route for 2011, and unfortunately they didn't. It seems that the Brits have the edge on North America in that sense.
I predict that Toyota will start experimenting publicly with diesel first, and when Honda's found a way to do it even better, with more efficiency, more power, more torque, they'll follow suit with the Ridgeline, Pilot, and Odyssey-perhaps even in that order.
soccermomd00d 1 year ago
We had to buy the dreaded minivan but I swear my Odyssey drives better than most cars I've owned and it can haul ass when it needs to.NO way would I buy a Dodge minivanif youmust buy a minivan go for the Odyssey you will not regret it plus they hold their value much better than any other van.

mileyrocks107 1 year ago
Honestly folks, I own a 2000 Odyssey with 302,000 miles and the A/C's still ice cold, & the engine still runs quiet and can move on anyone on any highway. I test drove a 2010 Caravan last Nov outta curiosity, & I'll rather cut off both my hands than own a damn Dodge. The tranny shifted with uncertainty & the engine power loss with the A/C running was significant. Dodge has some major lessons to learn, especially since they basically invented the minivan in the 1st place. WTF???

landyachtfan79 1 year ago
@Danexman I agree. My dad owned a 2001 Dodge Caravan and I told him to get a 2007 Honda Odyssey for his next car, and he did and he was shocked at how you could not feel any power loss with the A/C on. Its the same way with my Accord and thats a 4 cylinder, I feel no power loss with A/C on full blast.
Seirei0417 1 year ago

DODGE 4 EVER SUCKA
vinnie457 1 year ago 2
@vinnie457 The UAW is mostly responsible for the collapse of detroit. America can build cars well, it's the UAW that destroys things. If I'm not mistaken Honda's plants in Ohio build our cars and are NOT unionized and match [or even exceed] the quality of the same models made in Japan. Same applies to other import brands such as Toyota and Hyundai-Kia. Let's not forget execs who only care about profits.
banstaman 1 year ago
Look up recalls, that's a good start. Dodge brakes last 20-30k miles for FULL brakejob replacement. Even the stock tires last only 40k. I could go on for a while as a long time Dodge employee....cheap parts and design add up to a bad vehicle. There is a reason it costs thousands less than a Quest or Oddysey.
