Just read this on the Pixar wiki site: "Lotso was originally conceived as a teddy bear from the early 80's Care Bears toy line."

Lotso may not have existed back then in real life, but him, Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and I'm sure some other toy characters ARE products of inspiration of real toys from the past.
