It's not often that a song clearly influenced by a rock icon is actually sung by that icon...honestly makes me weep inside thinking of how epic it all is.
@KoalaOdder Yeah, he is. In case you didn't know, that guy is Win Bulter the lead member of Arcade Fire. He's got family in the band, too. The guy playing bass guitar behind the violinists is his younger brother, William. And the curly haired girl playing keyboard is his wife, Regine.
@joeswede89 Opps, I forgot. I was refering to the guy that hits his guitar with the tamborine at the end, that's Win. I forgot both Richard and Win use tamborines in this song.
@KoalaOdder My mistake. I thought you meant the guy that's hitting his guitar with the tamborine at the end, that's Win Butler.
You must've been refering to the red-headed guy with the bass drum and later the accordion. That's Richard Parry. Richard is a VERY talented musician who can play many different instruments! You might say it's genetic, his late father was a musician, his mother is musician and his sister is a musician(among many other things). I really like his style.
@merton510 I think Win's fellow member, Richard is the same height.
They used to have put another mic in front of the accordion so it could be heard. Since Regine usually uses the accordion, it's mic was always set up for her height but when Richard would use it, he always had to spread his legs apart and bend his knees so it would reach it's mic since he's a lot taller than Regine. Today, they usually have a mic attached to the accordion(like you see here) making it easier for Richard.
@Wretchedvideos Yeah, you know usually when a band has a guest, the guest seems to take over the performance, but it seemed David and Arcade Fire were sharing the performance EQUALLY which is another good part on both David Bowie and Arcade Fire.
@olj0 I think so too. I've heard that David Bowie is a big fan of Arcade Fire and so is Bruce Springsteen(who has also performed with Arcade Fire) and Arcade Fire are big fans of David and Bruce. David and Bruce's music and songs are similiar to theirs. It would be a big thrill for any singer/musician to be on stage with Arcade Fire.
My favorite song by Arcade Fire, my favorite band!
When my girlfriend didn't know who Arcade Fire was, this was the first song that I had her listen to and she liked it! She really likes their song, "Haiti" more.
They recently won the Grammy Award for best album!
@Kiwinil David Bowie isn't short, it's just that Win Butler is very tall. David Bowie is 5'10 and Win Butler is 6'5(I think Arcade Fire member Richard Parry is, too). David Bowie's taller than me, I'm 5'7.
I am so in love with this song. I heard it once where a back-up group of Native Americans sang with David Bowie and Arcade Fire. Does anyone know what that version is called??? Which concert or show was it???
David Bowie and Arcade Fire both put everything they've got (heart and soul) into this monumental performance. It doesn't get any better than this. Fantastic!
absolutely fucking AMAZING. tears in my eyes. arcade fire (and david bowie) have such incredible musical talent. i'm so glad there are artists out there that don't bullshit around in the music industry. I LOVE YOU, ARCADE FIRE.
@carouselambra7 Oh yeah, Arcade Fire takes their work very seriously and they work very hard on their songs. They own their own studio and they STRONGLY maintain their publishing rights, they don't allow different versions of their songs to be published(to be put on cd or itunes) by other singers/groups and they don't publish their own versions of other songs(to be fair, I guess). They don't allow corporations to sponser them and they usually don't allow their songs to be used in ads.
@pytko3 not to detract from what you were saying about the integrity or seriousness of Arcade Fire (which is my favorite band), but regarding cover versions: according to US (and most international) copyright law, anybody can create, publish and sell cover versions of any song they want, whether the original artists approve, don't, or don't even know. They just have to pay royalties. It's called "Compulsory Mechanical License" - you can google or wiki it.
I always thought that this song would have been fucking perfect at the end of like some eighties movie about kids that go on an adventure. Oddly enough, this song is in the new trailor for 80's inspired "Where the Wild Things Are."
80's??? the book was written in the 60's... but I mean I see where you could have gone wrong, seeing how the cartoon show re-appeared then (the cartoon began in the 70's)
I was referring to the visual style of the movie, which reminds me of the weird fantasy movies they used to make in the 80's. To be more clear I should have said, "The eighties inspired Where the Wild Things Are MOVIE TRAILER."
if it does get any better than this... i would have to kill myself 'cause it would mean that the world is coming to an end. life itself will self destruct from the sublime of music at its best. CAN YOU BEAT THE MEANING OF LIFE???? I THINK NOT!
Win Butler and David Bowie side by side. My life is complete.
