  • I want to learn this art...... u r amazing...

  • You are amazing!! This is truly beautiful.

  • thank you....I like your work

  • That's some crazy avant garde trumpet you have going in the background ^.^ Fantastic tutorial though; I look forward to seeing more of your art in the near future.

  • Aweesome

  • i know nothing about Chinese painting....but i can see the way you painted those leafs are quite different from traditional Chinese painting......quite western

  • Can you do a video on qi baishi painting on his shrimps

  • wow........

  • 

  • I have always admired your paintings! The details and brush strokes are very nice! Question, how do you have such a steady hand?

    (:

  • @Maplepaw1 Thank you for watching my YouTube channel! To answer your question on how I have a steady hand, I have to say that I don't have a steady hand like you might think I have, so when I draw details or a calligraphic stroke I have to mobilize my whole body from my feet, which are always leveled on the ground when I paint, to my shoulder and arm, all the way to the finger tips, and adjust my breath so I can devote all my energy into the brush strokes. Shaking hand is OK or even better.(:

  • @blueheronarts

Wow! That's interesting, I guess I'll have to get into the habit of doing that ;)

  • This is unbelievable, your so talented!! thanks for sharing.

  • @melanieannlopez Thank you! You may find more Chinese painting demos in my channel.

  • how to add and whre to put peach sap glue ? >.< erm maybe stupid question but me :D wonder

  • @chickenchan2001 Thanks for asking. Just add it into the water(about 10% depending your needs) and use the glue water instead of water to mix with watercolors or ink.

  • Прежде чем рисовать что-то, надо посмотреть на этот предмет вживую! А у вас цветок ненатуральный! Какой же вы художник? Одно название! Лучше не позорились бы!

  • this is something not any artist can do.

  • The technique is ill son, master brushwork there!

  • This painting inspires me.

  • I love watching this, or stuff like this. It's relaxing and it's an awesome art to learn.

  • i love your work. do you use reference at all, or is it all from long-term observation?

  • @kenthenoob Yes, I learned from master pieces first and from observation of nature second. Ancient art works or works by master artists are second nature to observe and after learning from them it become my second nature. If your reference is set high you might get to the middle level; if your reference is set to the middle you might only reach lower levels. So having great references is the key in learning art. After you mastered them then you know how to observe and establish your own style.

  • I cant understand how you are wokking, how do you Know where you have to draw the flowers shadow wen youre still starting to draw the Picture?

  • @TenyoChiisai I had a sort of mind image of the flower when I started with the light outer petals and then use dark color to cut in the shadows. You will paint with more confidence when you practice the same routine many many times until it become second nature.

  • thass some MADDD!!!! Brush control dude.... never seen that much control and restraint ever before... @_@

  • Your painting style is quite extraordinary - you seem to pause with your brush over the paper then entirely commit yourself to your brush-strokes. For a moment it looks like chaos, then the picture begins to appear. Absolutely beautiful.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • i want that brush xD

  • Hi Henry,

I have tried various types of paper but I am unable to paint the inside red strokes which help to shape the outside strokes without the red bleeding onto the outside lighter strokes. Could you make a suggestion?

    Thanks, Gail Racy

  • @racy65 You need to use pretty thick colors(less water, more paints, or add peach sap glue) to avoid smearning. When you paint the inside petals, leave a hairline space between these strokes and outside lighter petals to prevent the colors from running into each other. Also you may try to use our triple Xuan(shuan) paper if you havn't.

  • What colors do you mix?

  • there is no way i'd be able to paint using a brush like that, i have to have brushes that are easy to control. :')

  • Amazing!!!!This is talant and years of practice!!So beautiful!!...Can't wait to try and draw it myself;)

  • you have to watch somebody do the chinese painting to realize how hard it can be... there seems to be no rule for how you use the brush...

  • great!!!:x

  • I love this! Thank you! This is very helpful

  • I love this! Thank you! This is very helpful

  • this is wanderfull

  • 你著迷,我與他們的藝術!你是一個偉大的藝術家!

    好樣的!

  • I think its very relaxing to watch. Pure. Many of us have our opinions of what art should be or we as artists ourselves build up too much hype in ourselves. Building to much arrogance and ego would denigrate what otherwise would be something beautiful to trivial. Humbleness is advised.

  • Amazing :)

  • omg !!

  • WTF IM DYING! you are soo good :( !

  • amazing!!

  • wow , you are very talented...!

  • Oh man, you get some really nice dimension in the flower. Great volume, was hard for me to see where it was going in the beginning but ended up looking awesome.

  • Truly a master!

  • outstanding, simple but purely boss

  • Scalier...it's called traditional Chinese brush painting and it's one of the oldest and most unique forms of art in the world. Its goal reaches far beyond pure resemblance of the outer looks of an object. Do a little research about it? You're slipping at the very surface my friend.

Thank you for this beautiful tutorial. It's a pleasure to watch your skill.

  • I'm sorry that I can't lead you to a site that would give you more of an insight about the art. Some things, and especially when it comes to asian culture and arts, are to be experienced not just visually. That makes it harder to appreciate and understand for people that belong to the western world. I don't mean to be racist by saying so - I am not chinese myself. That is why I could advice you to open your heart and mind and learn through your own experience. All asian arts share a common base.

  • I am replying to Scalier's comment

  • Simply amazing!!!

  • me he quedado sin palabras buenisimoooooooooooo

  • I love your work with marvelous English translation. Red Dragonfly
