i know nothing about Chinese painting....but i can see the way you painted those leafs are quite different from traditional Chinese painting......quite western
@Maplepaw1 Thank you for watching my YouTube channel! To answer your question on how I have a steady hand, I have to say that I don't have a steady hand like you might think I have, so when I draw details or a calligraphic stroke I have to mobilize my whole body from my feet, which are always leveled on the ground when I paint, to my shoulder and arm, all the way to the finger tips, and adjust my breath so I can devote all my energy into the brush strokes. Shaking hand is OK or even better.(:
@chickenchan2001 Thanks for asking. Just add it into the water(about 10% depending your needs) and use the glue water instead of water to mix with watercolors or ink.

@kenthenoob Yes, I learned from master pieces first and from observation of nature second. Ancient art works or works by master artists are second nature to observe and after learning from them it become my second nature. If your reference is set high you might get to the middle level; if your reference is set to the middle you might only reach lower levels. So having great references is the key in learning art. After you mastered them then you know how to observe and establish your own style.
@TenyoChiisai I had a sort of mind image of the flower when I started with the light outer petals and then use dark color to cut in the shadows. You will paint with more confidence when you practice the same routine many many times until it become second nature.
Your painting style is quite extraordinary - you seem to pause with your brush over the paper then entirely commit yourself to your brush-strokes. For a moment it looks like chaos, then the picture begins to appear. Absolutely beautiful.
I have tried various types of paper but I am unable to paint the inside red strokes which help to shape the outside strokes without the red bleeding onto the outside lighter strokes. Could you make a suggestion?
@racy65 You need to use pretty thick colors(less water, more paints, or add peach sap glue) to avoid smearning. When you paint the inside petals, leave a hairline space between these strokes and outside lighter petals to prevent the colors from running into each other. Also you may try to use our triple Xuan(shuan) paper if you havn't.
I think its very relaxing to watch. Pure. Many of us have our opinions of what art should be or we as artists ourselves build up too much hype in ourselves. Building to much arrogance and ego would denigrate what otherwise would be something beautiful to trivial. Humbleness is advised.
Oh man, you get some really nice dimension in the flower. Great volume, was hard for me to see where it was going in the beginning but ended up looking awesome.
Scalier...it's called traditional Chinese brush painting and it's one of the oldest and most unique forms of art in the world. Its goal reaches far beyond pure resemblance of the outer looks of an object. Do a little research about it? You're slipping at the very surface my friend.
Thank you for this beautiful tutorial. It's a pleasure to watch your skill.

that is what I keep hearing. Still I cannot find any place which would explain the purpose of this way. That is why my analysis goes around the technique. Maybe you can give some site for me to give answers?
I'm sorry that I can't lead you to a site that would give you more of an insight about the art. Some things, and especially when it comes to asian culture and arts, are to be experienced not just visually. That makes it harder to appreciate and understand for people that belong to the western world. I don't mean to be racist by saying so - I am not chinese myself. That is why I could advice you to open your heart and mind and learn through your own experience. All asian arts share a common base.

There is nothing the chinese people do that they would hold mysterious themselves, and make them be that way. Western taiji practicioners have a reputation for going for metaphysics. This is not something a chinese taiji master would see necessary. I'm sure there's some sense in this way of painting as well, without having to wear their clothes and eat their food to understand.

You have no clue what art is, and this speech of yours is insulting every single artist in the world. Art has Styles, has it's own Way, and its own believe, that's why it's called Art. What you are regarding is a Print, not an Art.

When painting in a sketchy style like that, there's almost no chance of screwing it up. Very different from making clean and detailed public artwork.
Sure it's neat and all but not even near photorealism.
