yes, you can take it... but, if you take it, there will be a hole in the guitar.. you will have to take the screw off, doing what, there will be the screw hole on the guitar, but thats ok, i took mine too, and i can barely see the hole

You started the solo out on the 6th string, it should be on the 5th, that way you don't have to jump way back when you go to the 2nd/1st string harmony part on the 5th fret.
