  • Without John Mayall,,PeterGreen ...Without these guys so many of us would never have heard of the Blues

  • grOOvy R!ght on

  • 9 arseholes

  • Good grief, how could anyone not like this???

  • how do trolls and idiots even come across music like this,,the mind boggles.

  • I just realize that Peter Green singing is soooooo....soulful to me.

I'll sing and play his songs for my joy.

  • @valentineDD1 That's John Mayall singing.

He WAS the father of Brit Blues.

Clapton, Green, Bruce, Dunbar, Fleetwood, McVie, Taylor, take a look .

Working for Mayall was how you proved you were good.

  • @seankeane1000 THANKS for the info.

  • Just perfect!

  • lads, just head straight to 0:32 for a brucey bonus.

  • Peter Green is the greatest!

  • Heavy man heavy!

  • When Clapton played with Mayall, the "Clapton is God" graffiti started showing up around London. When Green replaced him, the graffiti became, "Green is better than God."

  • @seankeane1000 This may sound ignorant and naive, but is that true? Because if not, it certainly deserves to be, I don't mean to troll but it is my honest opinion, that Green, was 10 times the blues player Clapton ever was, and ever will be.

  • @xebec30 Yes, it is true. I worked at Fillmore East 1968/70. Mayall was one of my favorite BBB's (BritBluesBands)

I got the graffiti story from John McVie, who played base with both of them while with Mayall.

He did alright for himself later, too.

The first Fleetwood Mac (Fleetwood, McVie, Green, &Jeremy Spencer) was a great hard blue band.

  • Superbe♥.

  • Peter Green is the only blues player that ever made we want to cry. I mean actual tears flowing down my face. And I've heard a lot of great blues.

  • @belsiwelsi i am with you,,,peter was the best white blues player ever

  • Peter Green is the only blues player that ever made we want to cry. I mean actual tears flowing down my face.

  • Love him. There is no one close to him, and he wasn't even mentioned as one of the top ten of all time.

  • I still remember the liner notes on Yardbirds with Clapton: "on his best nights Clapton makes time stand still". Same for Green. But on these Mayall disks actually Peter Green was always a bit my favorite. Comparing mangoes with persimmons, all so wonderful, but I have to say it since Clapton is by far the more famous, Green needs his due...

Anyway both show it ain't about fast, it's about the feeling.

  • @lopezb I hope you're talking about the "old" Clapton. I can't stand the reinvented one...

  • @micanut48 i think nobody does

  • Peter Green has never filled anybody's shoes-he has his own fine Blue set!

  • Peter sounds a lot like clapton at this point.

  • I still have the original vynil album Raw Blues with this track on it

  • one of the greatest storys in Rock and Roll blues - Holy shit - Eric is leaving the bluesbreakers - damn - oh well - very hard shoes to fill indeed - in steps Peter Green and good god man - damn - would love to have been there that first night he played to an audience quite surprized to found taht there was someone else who could actually fill Erics shoes and then some !!!!!!

  • @bigbuzman Actually, it wasn't Peter who filled Eric's shoes until, concert after concert, Peter finally persuaded Mayall to give him a chance. "Why, that guitarist you have. He's no good at all. I'm better than him." Mayall, of course, just thought he was a crank until .... Once he got his chance, there was no looking back. That said, the crowds were cruel to Peter until .... they shut their prejudice and loyalty and opened up their ears. Listen to Fleetwood Mac Stockholm 1970. Oh, my!

  • I Knight Thee Sir Peter Green & Sir John Mayall

  • Peter Green's the most soulful Blues guitarist I've ever heard. I prefer him slightly more than BB King, Freddie King and even Rory Gallagher. YMMV.

  • @LarryRickenbacker

Well maybe not Rory, but Peter Green's tone is better. But to each his own.

  • John Mayall - the supreme master of British blues!!!

  • deux grands ,et en plus de belles images (un grand peter green )

  • il en a vu passer des grands le grand john mayall ) et le super son de peter green .

    michel ,france

  • This is excellent! Which album is this off of?

I do NOT have enough Mayall in my catalogue.

  • "John Mayall's Bluesbreakers: A Hard Road" & be sure to get the 2003 remastered CD with all 36 tracks! Because this isn't on the original CD or vinyl LP. My very favourite CD! Ever.

  • @doggzma - This album is called "Raw Blues", a collection of London Records B Sides from 1966 that is out of print.

This is the only Peter Green track - "Evil Woman Blues". Clapton appears on quite a few tasty cuts, including Champion Jack Dupree's (check him out) "Calcutta Blues" and "24 Hours".

There are a few sellers on Amazon who want over $30 for this CD - I have it somewhere in my collection.

  • @doggzma - Search "CHAMPION JACK DUPREE 1-CALCUTTA BLUES 2-24 HOURS" here on YouTube for a few RARE killer tracks from the "Raw Blues" album, featuring Clapton & Mayall.

  • Great song, never heard this what power, love the blues, thanks for posting this!

  • Man, the sound quality is just so good, I can't get enough of it. This is from an era that is now long gone and that's a real shame.

  • Stupendo Video ..incredibile musica ..io pian piano mi sto educando a queste stupende sonorità ..Non per merito mio ..ma per una " passione " si forte che ..che ..che non immaginavo di trovare in questo mio ultimo cammino ..

  • This is about as good as it gets. Peter Green at his best, with the master John Mayall.

  • @ringmansos I disliked by accident it at first because I thought it said John Mayer and I hate that fuck

  • @ringmansos You got that right!

  • Awesome. I love Green, I love Mayall.

  • Rag time piano + Green

Oh man, the sound bluesmen can only dream of.

  • mooie muziek ,met gevoel gebracht

  • Brilliant!

  • Damn right!

  • That piano, that guitar, those evil women.

  • ohhh ohhhhh hellloooooo

  • ¸.*..•*¨) .¸.•*¨) (¸.•¸.*..•*¨) .¸.•*¨che bel viaggio blues puro wow

  • Nipple......Wooooooo....... 0:38

  • thats a tough one their both great guitarists u cant go wrong with either although peter green doesnt have very much material what he does have is amazing

  • true. i just think peter green has much more emotion into his work. clapton with cream was great but after that it just started getting a little bland in my opinion

  • That tone! if anyone at this time could step in for Clapton it had to be Peter Green and he did one hell of a job following claptons departure from john mayall

  • In my opinion Green's better than Clapton (by far)

  • Hi JRR951

I wouldn't be without the recordings which Clapton made with John Mayall, or my vivid memories of seeing them 'live' but it is Peter's playing which I need to hear constantly. My current favourite is the work he did with Eddie Boyd, which spans two albums. The first was with The Bluesbreakers, the second with Fleetwood Mac.

No doubt you know this already - I clarified it for those who don't know.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • I'm only familiar with Eddie's guest appearance on The Pious Bird of Good Omen. What song did he do with Green during the Bluesbreakers period?

  • There's five or six tracks, all excellent. Peter's tone was never sweeter, in my opinion.

If you're going to investigate the CD, 'Eddie Boyd & His Blues Band', get the Gott Discs version, as the mastering is superb. Forget the Deram issue.

And 'The Big Boat', which you refer to, is ok but not the best of the songs which Ediie Boyd cut with Fleetwood Mac, which is on Blue Horizon, a patchy but essential album for Green fans.

    I hope that helps!

  • That's good to hear cause I really dig "The Big Boat". Thanks for the information my friend

  • You're very welcome. That's what YouTube is for as far as i'm concerned, not for slagging each other off because we don't rate Joe Bonamassa (for example) or whoever.

Both of the CDs I mentioned are first-rate treats for P.G. fans. Let me know what you think of them!

  • I can't seem to find that Eddie Boyd & His Blues Band album. Anyone way you could send it to my email. I was listening to it on Youtube and you're right. Green's tone is beautiful

  • Hi jRR951

Amazon have it. You must buy the Gott Discs issue. Beat Goes On have just issued it but the Gott Discs is superior

You'll find my review of it on Amazon.

    Keep me posted

  • well, one could not compare both of them.

EC played -based on all the standards, he learned in his youth - since then - he did not change a lot. He certainly is a highly talented guitar player; once he played with beatles he got the image... after all... Greeny is a much more better artist. His play was based on melody and harmonies. He had his "Layla" in 1967-1970. And he never had a hanky panky with his best friends wife.

  • incredible sound stage in this recording

  • ...strong duet...thanks for sharing along with great photos...

    Peg@

  • In which album is this song?

  • John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers

    A Hard Road 1

  • Yes thanks for replyin, unfortunatly I only have the 1967 version of this album and this song is in 2003 expanded version

  • blue and oh so true.

  • This is so nice..... big fan of Peter

  • this song is on the peter green 4 cd set i just bought that spans his career

  • Peter Green had the gift but he had been an artist / musician before this particular incarnation.

  • Hi PEA1010

That's an interesting comment. I agree with you but I'll say that current ways of thinking, based on Einstein's theories and other info., suggest that, as time is not linear - and it doesn't move, we move through it - then other lives must be concurrent, not past.

Therefore, maybe Peter is an artist in another life and has not suffered as he did in this life, in the other life - or lives!

I saw him play many times and I have vivid dreams about him still playing as well as he did.

  • In regards to time, referencing past, present, and future is just easier for people to understand. Saying a "concurrent life" as opposed to a "past life" would cause most folks to just scratch their heads and then you have to digress and explain the theory etc. :-)

Peter is a very interesting person with a compelling story. I love his playing and he has one of the most soulful voices I've ever heard.

  • Thanks for your reply. You're right of course. That reply was just for you and anyone else prepared to think a little deeper. I confess that it took me a while to understand it.

Peter has been a big part of my (musical) life. I contributed to his biography as I had seen him play so many times and I was a close friend of his close friend, Duster Bennett. Duster was careful not to introduce me to Peter (c 1971-2) as Peter sometimes had little time or regard for those who openly admired him.

  • Thanks for the reply. Wow, that's very interesting. I'd like to read that biography. I heard that a documentary about him recently aired in the UK. I'd like to see that too.

My brother was playing Green Manalishi by Judas Priest over and over one day so I played him the original and he forgot all about the Judas Priest version. Now, he's fascinated by Peter Green :-)

You obviously play guitar and harp. I wish I could play harp. I play lead guitar in a blues / rock cover band in Ohio.

  • The biography is good but it could have been better. Much of the detail - provided by John Mayall, Jenny Boyd (Patti's sister) and myself, was edited out, so for that reason and the fact that it sells for around $60 on Amazon, I am reluctant to recommend it unless you get the chance to read some first.

Peter and Duster inspired me to play harp. I love Peter's playing; it's the same as his voice and guitar work!

It's great fun and very satisfying to play harp, that's for sure.

    Best wishes

  • Bluesstormusic has the Martin Celmins bio for $10.95 new. The website owner is a huge Peter Green fan. Accoding to the Celmins bio, Peter had a "biker" phase, was that around '71-'72? It was also around that time Bob Brunning came to visit to play some material Peter did with his band in '69. Apparently Peter didn't want to hear any music whatsoever just go down to the local pub to drink. Such a shame.

  • Yes, it is a great shame, tragic.

Someone here mentions 'flashbacks'...I went to see Peter play in the early days of The Splinter Group and I had to leave because I could hardly see the man on stage for seeing him as he was between 1966-70. It was a very strange experience.

He seems happier these days, I'm glad to say. I wish him well. His music has given me as much pleasure as anyone's.

  • absolutely Peter Green singing!

  • Great photos . . .

    Just awsome !

  • Blues like showers of rain from the Raw Blues compilation as i recall. Must look out that old vinyl album. Superb.

  • Showers of Rain... that's good. You summed it up there. I think the blue-note (flat 5th) turns the clouds into falling rain. Whoever was that genius who found the blue note, and decided on playing minor scales over dominant 7th chords. I'm sure he did not think 'let's play a minor scale over dominant 7th chords' bye the way : ) Genius.

  • No... Comment... Good... Good...

    @Beppe

  • Ohhh God man, the memories and flash~backs hahaha.. this was when it was RAW.. the best. And hey guys this is clearly Peter singing!! Great photos, nice touch

    reddhottmama

PS. not to oversight John Mayal OMG blues and these guys my soul vibrates...

  • Lovely pictures and good song.

  • I read that Peter Green really wanted to give all his wealth away ,much to the dismay of his fellow band mates! Lot of talk in the 60's about sharing and not being rich, but only Peter actually wanted to do it.BEATLES and all the rest only paid lip service to "GIVE IT AWAY".JOHN LENNON A WORKING CLASS HERO ? RIGHT!!! LOVE YOU JOHN ,BUT ....

  • beautiful photography and excellent tune.

  • One of my favorites!

John Mayall (Piano), Peter Green (Vocal), Peter Green (Lead Guitar)

  • Yeah it's great. Peter Green is my all time favorite.

Just a note. Green replaced Eric Clapton in the Blues Breakers in 1966.He left in 1967 taking Fleetwood with him.J McVie

left BB and joined Green, Fleetwood, and Jeremy Spencer a

short time later and Fleetwood Mac was officially born. Danny Kirwan came on board in '68.

  • Well... Thank you for the info ! This should help everyone who asks questions about why he never performed this song in public. :)

  • Don't forget Bob Brunning!

  • Learning again ! :) Thank you very much ! :)

  • Good Memories.....I saw both John Mayall and

Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac at "Mothers" in Erdington Birmingham.. around that time...

    Good Blues..

  • You lucky bastard. I would give my left nut to see them shows. Good Blues is right.

  • Yes.......it was long ago now and John Mayall

tours seemingly only in North America.

Without these guys we would never have heard of the Blues.

  • Bluesmen of the world, unite!

  • Gawd! Where did you find this masterpiece? I never knew these two Gods performed together! Thankyou, thankyou!..........................elsullo

  • Thank you. A CD with rare songs was offered to me as a gift. It seems this one comes from before THE BluesBreakers time... :)
