Because guys like me who grew up on CDB and The Statler Brothers as well as all the country stars since then. I was in Iraq when this concert was performed. As well as Montgomery Gentry and I will tell you what the bleachers were packed. As they are for all concerts. See it is the country stars who come over to play and they don't send them the performers volunteer. I think you might be surprised how many people know who Charlie Daniels is if for nothing else, The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
Kicked ole green teeth right in the knee....I called a radio station one night long time ago and wanted to hear this. I was pretty banged up and it was like 4:00 in the morning. I said to the woman dj(Alison Steele I think) I wanna hear this song but all I could remember at that time was Kick Ole Green Teeth Right in the Knee....So she played The Legend of the Wooley Swamp! LOL Just sharing:)
Man i was there for that,, it was definetly a spirit lifter, me and some other good ole boys hopped a convoy down from Balad Air base bout 70 clicks north of baghdad for this show... thanks charlie
@Kimlaugh -Good catch & you're right! The original version mentioned Mario Andretti, one of the most successful racers of the time (or any time for that matter). Hats off to Charlie Daniels, Toby Keith and all of the other entertainers who make time to visit our men & women in uniform for honoring the true heroes of our time. God bless & come home safe!
I forget the name of this - it was one of his first hits - way before all the great ones with the CDB. Charlie is the pride of Tennessee. He's an exceptional man, and an amazing musician.
Charlie daniels came and visited us on the USS Theodore Roosevelt in 1993 when we were deployed. He is a great man, and I love his performance. Thanks again Mr daniels.

He updated the lyrics. The original recording was in 1973.

1973 are you sure seeing as how he mentions Earnhardt senior who hadn't made a claim to fame untill 78.
