  • nice!

  • I listened to ur version and I can play this piecce without any mistakes.

  • Peter, that is fantastic!!!

  • How is Mr. Henry?

    I'm VERY worried about him.

Victoria told me that he had some problems, and that had a bladder infection. I told her to give him some cramberry juice, and he enjoyed it.

  • He's back to his old self again!

  • WOW!

    Ur music has changed me.

Before I knew you on YouTube I was endlessly searching for classical music.

I FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR ON JANUARY 20th, 2008.

  • Happy anniversary!

  • Thank you VERY MUCH!!!!!!

  • You are so full of information and brains! Thanks for including you playing the piece at the beginning. It was wonderful to hear you playing it.

  • You are totally right. It's great to start up a discussion like this. It really gets people thinking about these things!

Thanks for posting. You play "May, Sweet May" so sweetly. Love it 100%!

    Happy New Year.

  • You are amazing!

  • What a gorgeous educational miniature from Schumann - I've never previously heard this one although I've obviously taught a lot of Schumann in my time! He had a tragic life but a beautiful wife! Have you played any compositions by Clara Schumann btw - that might be a thought for you to consider. the question you raise about MMs is a really critical one for teachers. My keyword here is "flexibility". You have really contributed with this video - well done!

  • ThePianoStudio, thanks for the appreciation!

  • That was soooo good...thanks for this sage advice, it needed to be said!...♪

  • Thank-you!

  • You play this piece so beautifully! I TOTALLY, TOTALLY agree with your points about the tempo, and it is such a beautiful piece! You play it with so much feeling!

  • Good advice for pianists, flutists, all musicians.

  • you are such a great pianist!!!

  • pianolover94, thank-you so much!

  • Benita, you have such wisdom along with your wonderful piano playing!

  • piano50, thank-you!

  • Thanks for sending me this lovely video. Very enjoyable. This is universally useful knowledge...good with any piece of music really.

  • jannokas85, thanks for appreciating the video and participating in the discussion. Isn't it exciting to transfer information to other pieces? I think so.

  • Absolutely yes. What you learn with 1 piece can easily be applied to another...regardless of how different these pieces can be.

  • Awesome

    well said

  • dabiribd,thank-you.

  • Thanks Benita for all your great insight. I wish more teacher's would do video's like this! I love other video also, escpecially the Schubert Sonata Op.120, D.664, mvt.2. Thanks again.

  • LVB1770, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I have some more pedagogical videos planned. Thanks for appreciating my Schubert Sonata movement. It has always been one of my favorites. You play beautifully, too.

  • Benita, I total, but total!!! agree with you for tempo, I always teach so in master courses and also inparis. The righttempo bolong to each pianist who play with his heart, and even change in the life for the same piece. Each has to give the truthof his own feeling, and thenwhat is coming from soul cannot beso far from the truth! Isabelle

  • ioehmichen, we do think of music the same way. I could tell by your playing. Thanks so much for watching and participating in the discussion.

  • :-) Beautiful little piece!

  • PianistCor, I just discovered it when flutelearner12 contacted me for help in his performance preparation. I always knew of this collection, but not this piece in particular.

It's quite sophisticated for two little pages of music.

  • This song is quite inspirational, and I am the one who need support, hahaha

  • lokutube, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • You're great.

  • nikvill, thank-you!

  • Tempo is definitely an "INTERPRETIVE and SUBJECTIVE" element in any performance.

With that being said, There are definite "CUT OFF POINTS" on the fast or slow end, that are just plain "INCORRECT" for any given piece of music.

A lot of it depends on the "PHRASING" of the pitches / notes.

A performer just needs to use their ear in relation to their own skills to find what is "CORRECT."

    :`D

  • Edenmaze, you make some excellent points. Thank-you for contributing to the discussion, and thank-you for the 5 star rating.

  • In a nutshell...

I just basically agreed with what you stated in your video.

I will say this in closing though.

METER and TEMPO are VERY VERY IMPORTANT elements in ANY musical performance.

I'm glad you brought up the subject.

    Your CONTENT = 5 STARS!

  • I've been using metronomes for over 20 years.

Mostly in the form of being accompanied by a "DRUM MACHINE."

Thats really all a good drum machine is, it's just a fancy metronome.

I use a METRONOME everytime I record anything in my studio.

    Great Video~ 5 STARS!

  • Your comments on metronome markings are both rational and reasonable - in fact you sound much like my teacher on this - 'editorial markings' are not hard and fast - it's up to the performer most times. "Listen as you play it," makes so much sense. Thanks, as always, for this. It's great to hear the master's voice behind your wonderful recordings. 5-stars again.

  • Josh, thank-you so much!

  • I wish my teacher would dedicate a song to me :'( flutelearner12 is sooo lucky

  • Likui, thank-you for appreciating my efforts to flutelearner12. If you have any questions about any pieces, please let me know.

  • Oh my, I'm honored, thank you so much Teacher Rose! You're the greatest.

  • flutelearner12, you are most welcome!
