if i were you, i'd focus on fixing one thing at a time, starting with the easiest and most obvious steps.. for your glide, one thing i wouldn't do is cross your left leg behind your right calf, because you want your body and power to travel STRAIGHT across the ring, not sideways.. just remember, your legs and your kickback will be your path to get to the powerthrow position, and unless you line up sideways i wouldn't do that
huh... sophmore, i threw 47' 1" last weekend from a power throw... and 49' 0" in a glide. i only bench 225 and i squat 365. form is everything. everything else is nice.. but form form form.
1. your right foot could be dragged under you a little more - meaning have most of your weight loaded on that right leg for more power.
2. try to sit back more when you start the glide. it seems too rushed to begin with. the key is to accelerate the shot, not to go fast in the beginning, but gradually get faster as the throw progresses.
my form is worse then this, and i my farthest this year is a 47'2" im hoping to bust 50 by the time for regionals, and place in the top 8 with bout a 52 for state.
i was just there 3 weeks ago or so and though i didnt throw my farthest i won 4th place and got a medal, PI this year is 52'4, i threw 48'9 at that invintational
not bad man. your form sucks but your still launching it. get that for to par youll be hitting high 40's. i suck this yeat im only thowing 40 as a junior but as a soph i threw 45
he needs to keep his shoulders back as longer, he lost most of his power when he started turning when he glided. I went from 41 feet, to 46 feet in just two weeks by practicing this
Just some constructive criticism: You might want to work on your quickness across the ring. You have the size and strength part down, but a lot of shotputting is how fast you can rocket into that power position. I'm a 5'10 210 lb thrower. Fairly small. Definitely not your size. I bench around 325 lbs, and squat about 500 lb. Not big weight. My PR is 45'1" with glide. I'm telling you this because everyone tells me I would be throwing 30 feet if I werent so quick across the ring, its important.
dude you bench 325 you should get throwin it past that....even thou yer that qucik across the ring..thers a kid whose 185, and benchest mayb 225, but throws 65 sme feet.
bull shit bench press has nothing to do with throwing you opne up your chest at the end to throw useing all of you chest and shoulder muscles you should be launching it out there around 65
Not true, read ANY article or ask ANY good coach and they will tell you the excercises that help you to control your weight in the ring (IE. cleans, jerks, snatches...) are the most important lifts by far.
yeah control your weight.... for balance and can help develop proper technique but honestly you ask any coach if you can 325 you should be able to het at least 60 in highschool unless your form is that shitty
@DWah40 yea im with you man. my max bench this year was only 260 but i threw 56. speed is a big factor. but bench doesnt matter much at all. its more about legs and hip power.
lies, lol I've never met a shotput with all those stats combined with speed and throw that short distance with a 12lb shot. Im 195lbs 225 bench and 315 squat and I throw 47ft
dammit, I'm almost exactly your size. 5'11 195. I'm 15. I bench max 225 "healthy" but no where near beastly. I squat 435. I pr'd 40 ft 9. It was my second meet after 3 months training. I'm working on the spin.
@PewPewLazerViking hahaha i loved how you said "not big weight" thats funny cuz like your sort of downplaying it making it seem like you could do more its funny its funny i shit my pants literally laughing and also made urine
what helped me alot when i was stuck at 45 was to focus on keeping my shoulders back as long as possible. i jumped from 45 to 48-49 after a couple of weeks of working on that
Get back with me, and we'll talk more. I threw in hs-jsut graduated. I got up to the low to mid 50's my senior year, and threw 160-ish in disc. Went to state with an injured ankle and didnt do so well, but it happens. I plan on throwing in college next year...I love throwing, and I think its great that you are throwing.
And yeah, keep your chest up when you go to release, it was down...try picking a focal point before you get set that is realtively high, like a cloud or other land mark, so that when you pop your hips out and release, your chest and head are high, and it will give you a few feet more.
You stayed low starting outyou were all over the place though-get set when you get in the cirlce right off, dont over adjust your self and bounce around a lot-be solid. Your main problem is in your gather/transfer phase. You dont really glide, you are supposed to land with your left foot hitting first and not drag your right foot and lose all that momentum and power. You threw off your back foot.Stay low, then a powerful kick, land square-dont drag, then hips,chest,arm,reverse-in that order. Help?
nice throw....keep your chest up and out, and swing your free arm through the air as high as it will go as you are throwing, and whip it around at te end. you should get an extra few feet.

Shot put and discus both have very little to do with bench and squat strength.
Mainly it has to do with: A. Technique (obviously)
and B. Power clean, jerk, and snatch strength which i happen to to have none.
My cleans are around 185-200 lbs, and I have never done jerks or snatches.
PewPewLazerViking 3 years ago

power=/= speed. For shot put you need speed in your snap not power. NYC is pretty shitty i think since the last winner put 49. He benches 350.
llennroy 3 years ago
power in regards to biomechanics is the ability to gather as much strength in the shortest amount of time, or just plane pyshics work/time.
