  • shelby actually didn't do anything on the daytona. It got the shelby name because they used the engine out of the omni GLHS which WAS done by shelby. still a rad car, I've got two.

  • @blakemcguire Hey, Blake! Thanks for setting the record straight on that! I guess Chrysler was definitely dedicated to using the Shelby name when it could! Congrats on your cars! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I still own my '87 Daytona Shelby Z that I purchased new. It still runs and drives just fine, but unfortunately does not look as nice as the one above...hopefully one day!

  • @Naturewxviews I'm glad you still have it...they are very rare these days! I had an 85 Laser Turbo back in the day! Good luck with the restoration! Thanks! :) Jack

  • You said car is from Canada, didn't happen to buy it From Rodney Burley did you? He had a Shelby stored for 15 years with 33k. and we could never make a deal on it. Are you the gentleman who flew up then got peeved because the brakes were siezd, strong armed Rodney to lower price, then drove it to Florida on twenty year old tires? You were one brave soul! I found another Shelby with 23k orig. miles and 70% complete with full restoration. Will have best original Shelby in US. We should talk

  • @skeens43 Hey, Brian! It's not my car, so I don't know the history of it....perhaps the owner will answer your question. Thanks! :) Jack

  • There was no such thing as a 4 speed Laser. Youre just remembering wrong is all haha.

  • @Shelbyzd You are correct, Michael...I should have remembered..it was a 5 speed...and I had the Dodge Shadow turbo too..and I had to have the linkages of both manual transmissions replaced...had a nasty habit of breaking! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Yeah definitely. The A555 that came out later definitely helped that situation.

  • @Shelbyzd Hey, Michael! I'm glad they had a fix for it....I had to drive about 50 miles in second gear! :D Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had an 87 Daytona Pacifica turbo...loved it

  • @sheersoxNC Cool! These cars were very underrated when they were new...having had an 85 Laser turbo and 87 Dodge Shadow turbo, I know from experience too how much fun they were! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @sheersoxNC mee too!! leather and t tops, mine popped the head, no intercooler on pacifica damn turbo1!! loved it anyway!! also ha a 90!

  • awsome car!!!!

  • These things are actually pretty good if you don't object to FWD.

  • @faffaflunkie I believe that...I had a regular turbo version. Drawback would be the torque steer. Thanks! :) Jack

  • They did something similar here. They would produce cars for Dodge but badge it with the Chrysler emblem even though it said Dodge.

  • @Magnuspire Chrysler Laser and Dodge Daytona in the mid 80's here in the U.S. differed only in slight detail...all had the corporation's Pentestar emblem on them. Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had an 87 Charger turbo that had a mild Mopar cam (don't remember specs) and a computer upgrade... I would always love going in to town and roping in the 5.0 boys for a good ol' 2.2 liter ass whoopin. i really miss that car and I surely miss the wanna be hot rodding 5.0 kids banging on their steering wheels when they got beat.

  • @catcourtney01 Very cool! I had a Chrysler Laser Turbo 85 and a Dodge Shadow Turbo 87...no specific performance upgrades though! As we know, appearances can be deceiving! LOL! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Not a huge fan of these cars, but all the same they have their place in automotive history, and this one is in very good condition, My Grandmother had a similar year non-Shelby Red Daytona from new, I ain't sure if it was a Chrysler? it might have been, I think we even called it a Dodge Daytona, its difficult to remember exactly, but it was a Canadian car here, so it may have been Chrysler, but she sold it while I was younger, so I don't have the best memory on it. Thanks for sharing Jack!

  • @BRENTHENRY1989 Hey, Brent! I can speak from experience that they were pretty good cars...I had the turbo version..you had to get used to the torque steer, but they were pretty fast. I bet your grandmother had the Chrysler labeled version! Thanks! :) Jack

  • My friend had one of those old Shelby Z's and his was turbo charged richt from the factory an in the center console it had a boost gauge Thanks for showing it I haven't saw one in years..

  • @tinydx95t2 Hey, Earl! Glad to oblige...I hadn't seen one in ages either! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Remembers these well Jack I wanted one too. I had just bought an 83 2.2 Charger Black with the Gold. Then this comes out. BUYERS REMORSE! It's ok I got a great deal on my little CHarger. I wonder what the horse power was on these Daytona's with the turbo. I know the 2.2 Shelby Charger Turbo was another car I wanted just before the Daytona's Thanks for the Memories Jack!

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! I looked up the horsepower via Consumer Reports of the era...non turbo engine hp was about 100...turbo version was 146. So it was definitely a boost from the regular K car powerplant! Glad you liked! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Thanks for looking it up. I was going to say 100 HP but I was afraid my memory wasn't working. Turns out it was. LOL. Isn't that too funny a 100 HP and it was suppose to be a SPORTS car. I will say this. I used to pop the clutch often and burn rubber. I even got a $100 disturbing the peace ticket one night in the center of town. You want to talk about pissed off. This was back in the day of $50 speeding tickets. Disturbing the peace was more expensive.Speeding is far more dangerous.

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! Glad to be of help....speaking of disturbing the peace, I used to rev the 64 Dart slant 6 in neutral, then press the "1" button on the Torqueflite controls on the dash! Used to get a good chirp of the wheels..that slant 6 had lots of low end torque, and the Torqueflite was bullet proof! Fortunately, no tickets! I was just incorrigible! Thanks! :) Jack

  • YES! DAYTONA SHELBY-Z!! Glad to see one of these, Jack! I've got an '86 Chrysler Laser XT in my buddies garage that we're working on 2.2 turbo I setup, 3 speed torqueflite, it's a nice little car, as soon as I'm done I'm going to lend it to my girlfriend until she buys her own car. These cars were QUICK!

  • @Ebaum744 Hey, Sam! Glad I could bring this one to you...it actually surprised me at the car show..didn't expect to see one! I had an 85 Laser turbo, manual 4 speed...only problem, the gearshift linkage broke! But it was none the worse for wear! Nice of you to lend to your girlfriend! Thanks! :) Jack

  • These are nice sporty 2+2s and that hatch back makes it more practical. A very nice sporty red. In Canada there were two Mopar dealerships - there was Plymouth/Chrysler and Dodge/Chrysler, so in order for Plymouth/Chrysler dealers to sell a Daytona they called it a Chrysler. As old Bill would say a rose by any other name is still a Dodge unless it is sold in Canada

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Yeah, I liked my 85 Laser...the interior was much better than earlier MOPARS...that I remember. Thanks for the rundown on the Canadian operation! :) Jack

  • @brians09challenger Hey, Brian! You seldom see these cars today..especially the Shelby versions! I can't remember the Spirits....but my Chrysler Laser was a cool car...and pretty fast with the turbo. Fortunately, I didn't have the talking dash! I remember when it came out, though! Thanks! :) Jack
