It's actually illegal to take pictures of tape around the security area. He was lucky he wasn't arrested for it. It specified in my TSA class, that was mandatory for me to get a secure i.d. so I could work in one of the food concepts in the airport, that people who are caught recording or taking pictures of the security area are to be immediately reported. It's a damn safety violation to have pictures and videos like this public, which is why they were demanding he put the camera away.

What led to the photocopying of credit cards...I can envision where TSA would photocopy a credit card or govt ID depending on the situation and what the passenger did beforehand.

@Pafoofnik1 They can and do photocopy ID's and credit cards. I've only seen credit cards copied once when the guy didn't have an ID though.
The TSA does not prohibit photographs and video taping at screening locations, however, if the person passes certain threasholds of behavior the management has the authority to prohibit the photography or filming (I don't think that is in the blogs, but it is in TSA standard operating procedures.

I would look for the past leaked versions of TSA SOP if you can find one online or become employed by TSA so you can look at the current version. I've seen it, and it is in there, but there are only a couple criteria that is cause for TSA to prohibit filming. In this video I doubt any of those criteria were met and so they were wrong for trying to force the guy to stop recording.

It's actually illegal to take pictures of tape around the security area. He was lucky he wasn't arrested for it. It specified in my TSA class, that was mandatory for me to get a secure i.d. so I could work in one of the food concepts in the airport, that people who are caught recording or taking pictures of the security area are to be immediately reported. It's a damn safety violation to have pictures and videos like this public, which is why they were demanding he put the camera away.

The TSA does not prohibit photographs and video taping at screening locations, however, if the person passes certain threasholds of behavior the management has the authority to prohibit the photography or filming (I don't think that is in the blogs, but it is in TSA standard operating procedures.

I've seen it, and it is in there, but there are only a couple criteria that is cause for TSA to prohibit filming. In this video I doubt any of those criteria were met and so they were wrong for trying to force the guy to stop recording.

If you're going to document what is happening, then document it. Don't criticize them on camera. It's pointless to pick on the stooges when the real problems are with the policy makers. The second you begin to pass judgment you loose credibility in your presentation.
Let your viewers decide on what they are seeing. You may think that they are stupid, and those who are just posting mindless rhetoric are, but the ones you want on your side are not.

This is so wrong it's staggering. TSA stands for "Transportation" Security Administration. A credit card doesn't blow up a plane. Photocopying someone's documents is stepping way over the line of authority. I can only see one reason for it - retaliation later.

@taledarkside .... A credit card by law is NOT identification. It "MAY" be used to substantiate the belief of a legal form of identification but a credit card is NOT identification in any state or federal jurisdiction.
Now, lets go back to the issue. The question was "Where is it in TSA policy for them to photo copy peoples credit cards?" It's NOT....that is why they ran off without answering.

by law, but it is still a form of identification. You never had a job. Where you have a customer at a bank and they need several forms of ID to cash a high value check or other sitution.
it is easy to buy a fake ID. And a credit card help to verify if the name matches or not, and it is up to their discretion to verify if its really them or not.

@taledarkside - I know the government has it - that's my point. Since they already have this, why do they need to photocopy anything? They know who he is via drivers license or passport. My point is this is just more intimidation and them getting into our personal space to condition us to the eventual police state. And, let's consider any other papers he had that weren't credit cards - the government doesn't have those and he is entitiled to keep them private.

now you may possibly be starting to get an understanding of how fascism works. as you can see they are using the TSA screening process as a general police dragnet bypassing the fourth amendment. this credit card incident here as well as the ron paul supporter detained over 4,700 in cash neither of which were a airline security threat demonstrates that clearly. sadly as the state continues to consolidate its power these will be remembered as the good ole days when you were only semi-violated.

a simple solution to the t.s.a. copying a credit card, report the card stolen, don't cancell, don't say it was lost stolen, if that security guard tries to use it , they'd get nailed.
