this is the exact same thing that happened back in the day to my dads new 1994 V10 2500 4x4 ram,had to slow down to 30mph from 60 to stop it, only had 15k at the time, ended up needing upper and lower ball joints but still wasn't right.
Its not only dodge , its any make of vehical with aftermarket lifts or anything in that matter, the cause is a worn out or not strong enough track bar..i had the same problem then replaced it...problem solved thanks anyways for you bs comment on dodge.
what it is it the bar the holds your front axle. the factory one is junk. what the shaking is ,is your front axle assy. shaking around side too side. whitch makes your tires go from left too right . that is the shake you feel and see. i had the same problem with my o6 2500 cummind and installed a ne w bar(after market) and problem fixed
I HAVE A 96 2500 WITH DEATH WOBBLE ISSUES, I HAVE FOUND THAT THE NUMBER ONE FIX OR HELP WITH DEATH WOBBLE IS ALIGNMENT. CASTER IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF DEATH WOBBLE ALONG WITH A LOOSE OF FLEXING TRAC BAR. EVAR HAD THAT SHOPPING CART WITH THE MESSED UP WHEEL THAT JUST SHAKES BACK AND FORTH, THATS THE SAME THING THATS HAPPENING WITH YOUR TRUCK. GET YOUR ALIGNMENT CHECKED. :)
This needs to be brought to the attention of national media in the US so maybe they can pressure Diamler Chrysler into doing a recall and actually fixing this problem that is prevalent on so many of their vehicles.
This happens to me on an 06 but only when I break hard at highway speeds, I notice a small vibration while accelerating but straight roads no bumps or nothing, the vibration is probably just my tires I need new ones because i never aligned them, but the braking is just like this.
I have the same truck ('04 2500 4x4) stock with BFG all terains. I got the DW around 90k miles after I crushed the stabilizer on a rock. I replaced with a stock stabilzer, still got DW. I was told to replace the traction bar bushings, did that plus wheel alignment -no change. I got a Bilsteen stabilizer, a little better. Finally added a Top Gunz Customs bolt on dual stabilzer kit + left the Bilsteen on (3 stabilizers) - took care of the problem , not sure what caused it in the first place
Did you ever find out exactly what the problem was? My '03 has 90K miles and just started doing it. It have been lifted since day 1 so i dont see why it would take tires this long to do it.
New track bar will fix this. If you replace the track bar and also add a steering box brace the problem will be fixed for good. My 04 developed the wobble at 100k. Instituted these fixes and haven't seen the wobble for the 2nd 100K. Other than this problem and weak trannys these trucks are rock solid. Good luck
I can't see it being a pitman arm because the pitman arm is splined onto the steering shaft and most have a "keyed" position, which insures that the pitman arm is installed correctly or straight, best thing to do is have a buddy sit in the truck with it running quickly jerking the steering wheel back and fourth while u look underneath, you will be able to see what is loose weather it be
Have had a lift on my wrangler JK for 2 years and never had this problem because every 6 months I get it realigned, it happened on my Cherokee all the time like this put new tires on and steering stabilizer and the problem went away
I'm having the same problem on my Ram 3500 Dually..I have fixed the same things you have so far. I have been told by several different sources to change the track bar bushings. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.
I am currently fighting the same thing. New trackbar, steering damper and front shocks every 25-30 thousand keep it in check. I've also heard tires can make it happen.
This is the result of a piss poor suspension design and nothing more. I have heard of trucks as new as 08 with as little as 12,000 miles having this problem. when you hit a bump that unloads the suspension, it drasticly changes the caster. First of all I can't believe Dodge has not recalled these trucks. Second I can't believe They are using this same f@#ked up design.
start checking steering, balljoints wheel bearing for play, a steering damper will not cue it or help it, most it will do is act like a baindaid, is the truck lifted at all?

If only other drivers on the road could see that, you would get a clear path when other drivers take to the ditch to avoid you.

It cam only be 4 things,
1. Track bar mounts loose or worn
2. Balljoints
3. Tie rod ends
4. Wheel bearings,
I can't see it being a pitman arm because the pitman arm is splined onto the steering shaft and most have a "keyed" position, which insures that the pitman arm is installed correctly or straight, best thing to do is have a buddy sit in the truck with it running quickly jerking the steering wheel back and fourth while u look underneath, you will be able to see what is loose weather it be

Tie rod ends? had the same problem in a jeep... not as heavy duty as your truck but there might be something to it?

I fixed my Dodge, it was the Pitman Arm. It didnt seem to be bad but that was it. Since replacing the pitman arm the Death Wobble is GONE

DUDE!!!
My brother has a 2006 Ram 2500 diesel 210,000kms and it DID the excat same thing!!!!
After changing one ball joint, complete steering linkage, alingment and a couple other things the truck still had the same problem!
He complaint about the tires wearing out quick (probaly because of the wobble) sot he went to tire shop to get the tires changed.
Some one prevoiusly had put on passenger tires on.
Anyways the moral of the story is once he changed the tires the wobble went away!!!
