Gus G is humble and true to his craft. Ozzy handpicked the best guys around for the 09-10 tour.. Amazing musicians. If they roll into your town, don't miss these guys...
Whoever said Gus' sound comes from his ESP is not a guitar player or an idiot. Every guitar player worth anything knows that a players primary source of identifiable and signature sound comes from their hands. Sure, amps and effects make a difference, but seriously, the guitar is going to give the least amount of distinctiveness in sound to a player. Gus would sound like Gus even if he played on a $100.00 Starcaster guitar from Costco.
my band has the opposite problem, we all are pretty skilled on our instruments but we have sub par gear lol its so fustrating knowing how good we could sound with way better pro gear. but like you said, the real core of your sound/tone comes from yo hands! :D
you never truely understand how great of a guitar player gus g is untill you play one of his custom signature guitars. i used to think he was just some unworthy replacement of a amazing guitar player but since i riffed out and shredded some shit off a copy of the signature LTD he is playing i discovered he is a great guitar player and is a great replacement and his style is perfect for ozzy osbourne. HOWEVER ZAKK WYLDE IS STILL OVER THE MOUNTAIN! GUS G IS JUST CLIMBING FROM THE BOTTOM OF IT.

Great guitarist but with zero stage presence. He's introverted which equates to being a boring entertainer. Can play whatever Zakk can and then some but will need to work on building a rock star persona.
I have a DVD of Firewind, and I've seen plenty of his Youtube performances. Relative to Zakk Wylde he has zero stage presence, regardless of how good he may be on the guitar.
@steviemitch77 you're entitled to your own opinion but thrashing a guitar string and slamming in pinch harmonics does not make you a good guitarist, trust me i play. Honestly zakk is not even close to the prestigious rank of Gus G. Gus is versatile, he plays a solo on more than one string and only rarely plays with pinch harmonics, but at least when he does them he does not fuck them up like Zakk seems to do all of the time.

Your absolutely right. Randy was of the rarest of talents. Totally musical and totally charismatic. That being said, this is a talented young guy, and it's good to support people working hard to achieve great things. Getting a gig with Ozzy is no small thing!LOL.
I don't know, Randy Rhoads feel or not.....I put Mr Bob Daisley at the core of some of the best song writing that Ozzy had. Blizzard, Diary and Bark were all exceptional.. Ozzy has blown chunks since Ultimate Sin, and whoever is doing the actual song writing for him in the Zakk version also doesn't come close....Randy would make the guitar scream and wail between slick pentatonic riffs, listen to his sound check...tell me who you'd rather see....I'd be more excited if Jake was back and Daisley
I've been a Zakk fan since he first joine Ozzy...I don't think there is a better fit for Ozzy than Gus. Gus is the perfect fit IMO and has the song writing ability to take Ozzy into a new place. Let's just hope Ozzy doesn't think that the new Ozzy sounds too much like Firewind. BTW Firewind fucking rocks!
I was a Zakk Fan till i realized that he isn't actually a great player compared to people like John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert. Pentatonic is the scale for people who are afraid to venture outside the box. Pentatonic is all Zakk is. Give me thumbs down if you wish but the fact of the matter is that its true, oh its damn true!!!
just from this video you can here he's capable, but I think it's a bad fit for him. Ozzy is dinosaur rock, and this kid is too young to be playing dinosaur music. Hopefully he uses the exposure and runs with it, but I hope he doesn't stick with Oz. Oz can't hold a tune anymore - they have to autotune the shit out of everything in the studio.

@4everRock666 yeah but shredding, exotic scales, sweep picking, tapping, sweep tapping = any modern guitarist. He's clean and technical, but perhaps overly so. I like the new album, but the riffs are better than the solos. Nothing memorable I'm afraid.

@steviemitch77 you're entitled to your own opinion but thrashing a guitar string and slamming in pinch harmonics does not make you a good guitarist, trust me i play. Honestly zakk is not even close to the prestigious rank of Gus G. Gus is versatile, he plays a solo on more than one string and only rarely plays with pinch harmonics, but at least when he does them he does not fuck them up like Zakk seems to do all of the time.

I don't know, Randy Rhoads feel or not.....I put Mr Bob Daisley at the core of some of the best song writing that Ozzy had. Blizzard, Diary and Bark were all exceptional.. Ozzy has blown chunks since Ultimate Sin, and whoever is doing the actual song writing for him in the Zakk version also doesn't come close....Randy would make the guitar scream and wail between slick pentatonic riffs, listen to his sound check...tell me who you'd rather see....I'd be more excited if Jake was back and Daisley

I've been a Zakk fan since he first joine Ozzy...I don't think there is a better fit for Ozzy than Gus. Gus is the perfect fit IMO and has the song writing ability to take Ozzy into a new place. Let's just hope Ozzy doesn't think that the new Ozzy sounds too much like Firewind. BTW Firewind fucking rocks!

I was a Zakk Fan till i realized that he isn't actually a great player compared to people like John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert. Pentatonic is the scale for people who are afraid to venture outside the box. Pentatonic is all Zakk is. just from this video you can here he's capable, but I think it's a bad fit for him. Ozzy is dinosaur rock, and this kid is too young to be playing dinosaur music. Hopefully he uses the exposure and runs with it, but I hope he doesn't stick with Oz. Oz can't hold a tune anymore - they have to autotune the shit out of everything in the studio.
