Was not the rule of this match made public in the United States? Suplex, pinning techniques, and standing kick were prohibited to Inoki by the ali side. So it was natural that Inoki used only the sliding kick. If a present Mixed Martial Arts rule, Inoki might have been able to win ali easily.

The reason this fight isn't aesthetically pleasing is because some of the rules implemented. For example, Inoki was not allowed to throw a kick without at least one knee on the mat. Now, when fighting someone like Ali, the first thing you want to do is take away their mobility: Usually with leg kicks. If these two had engaged in a fight closer to modern MMA it's highly unlikely that Ali would have won. This doesn't take away from Ali as a boxer however and if Inoki had stood up with him... KO

This fight did not do Ali any good, i read in a book the leg kicks gave Ali some really bad deep tissue problems and because he was doing this as an exhibition and was inbetween exhibitions he didn't seek medical help before flying back to America to his next one. @Trashfished actually Ali is a hero not just to the Boxing world but to the real world. he stood up for rights, was one of the best boxers of all time. he was right about the Vietnam war he was right to fight against going there. Ali was rated in time magazine in the top 10 of greatest people. he was a hero. and to call him a weak coward because he has parkinsons is cowardly on your half picking on people with diseases and conditions one day you could get sick, but Ali wouldnt call u a coward.

@ruffrhyder21213 Whether or not the rules of this "exhibition" were changed is of no consequence as it is staged. This was a debacle in 1976 and it is a farce now in 2011. What Antonio Inoki is doing in this clip bears little to no resemblance to martial arts of any form. This is clearly one of the many Inoki staged fights the world has born witness too. Nobody wins here, Inoki or Ali. It was a waste of everybody's time. Thanks for sharing though.

Ali promoted this match as a "no hold bar" match, and then, a week before the fight, demanded a no grappling match. Who's the coward there? Ali changed the rules after the contract was signed to benefit him, and then, when he got his legs messed up, complained.

This fight did not do Ali any good, i read in a book the leg kicks gave Ali some really bad deep tissue problems and because he was doing this as an exhibition and was inbetween exhibitions he didn't seek medical help before flying back to America to his next one. Also he was an ageing boxer by this time so recovery was taking longer. Silly fight to be honest.

@SyedAliShah It's boxer vs wrestler. Wrestlers don't normally wear gloves, boxers do. Most boxer vs wrestler matches have the boxer wearing gloves and the wrestler bear handed. Inoki was in a boxer vs wrestler match where he had to wear gloves for the first three rounds and then was allowed to take them off and grapple. I agree, they are stupid matches.

The only thing he could not do is grapple and hit while down. I mean Ali did have gloves on he could use his hands.....it was for show people
