  • A beautiful rendition of this old song second only to deanna durbin

  • THE BEST.

  • fantastic you dont get singers like this anymore

  • @bjoanpope25 Very true! Bravo!

  • God, she has a nice voice! So many emotions in every 2 or 3 notes.

  • This is gourmet music. I too wish I could have heard her at a live concert. I am 66 and was brought up on Jo Stafford and the Mills Brothers. Theirs was a music that inspired one and engendered a degree of serenity.

  • Driving home from work at the Nevada Test Site in the late '80s a local AM station would play Jos' music. I'm still in LOVE with her. Sorry dear Wife.

  • This is where it all BEGIN THE BEGUINE!!!!!

  • Pure Jo!! Exquisite!! So smooth....so sweet and lovely! She was the very tops of all female vocalists...bar none...from my viewpoint..... An older gent who remembers those great WWII songs and singers. What a great era for music!

Not to be seen or heard again...sorry to say....bye...bye...

    BRH

  • Never heard this version before. Love it!

  • Read her imdb bio & quotes. Awesome!

  • No one does it better.

  • I miss you, Jo!

  • Who is that soprano singing" Begin the Beguin" in the Joseph Cotton film and what movie is it?

  • @is1531 Deanna Durbin in 'Her's to Hold'.

  • @JR1960actor Thank you so much for answering my questions. At age 58 this music is before my time, but a person always has a chance to catch up when it comes to music. It's so easy to hear that Jo Stafford is one of the all time greats. I will always love her. It's sad that I will never get to see a live concert of Jo Stafford. I feel the same way about Judy Garland,Jane Morgan, and Jane Morgan.

  • @is1531 Minor correction, the title is actually 'Hers to Hold'. It was just an extra apostrophe, but it didn't belong.

  • Jo Stafford is like Apple Pie. How can you lose?

  • I love this song

  • What a absolute enjoyable treat. What a songbird

  • That voice...! They don't make 'em like Jo anymore. I came almost to tears the day she died, and I am not generally an emotional man.

I was working on a field assignment with a woman from the office. I am old enough to nearly be her grandfather. "Hey, Bear! Got any tunes we can play?" was asked of me on our way home. I thought 'this will drive her nuts!' and I put some Jo Stafford in the car player. My young friend was captivated! "Who IS that?!?"

  • @FriendlyGrizzly good music is good music i'm only 33 and i can't get enough of jo and patti page .. henry hall

  • @thelaughingman79 Jo Stafford, Patti Page, and Doris Day -- they were the cream of the crop for me. A little older here (50) but I was lucky to have parents who introduced us to these amazing artists while I was growing up. Good taste in music, my friend!!

  • Good jo

  • Jo Stafford was a versatile singer and did a wonderful job on all the different types of songs that she sang throughout her career. Jo is one of the Greatest!

  • favorite

  • Jo is the only singer that 'owns' this song .

  • I would'nt say, the only one but she sure is the greatest. many thanx for posting.

  • she is the only one that catches this tune GREAT

  • Wonderfull

  • I wish My Grandmother were here to see this uploaded to youtube.....it was her favorite song

  • reminds me of k.d. lang. I would love to hear her sing this.

  • is she the one doing the high line in the chorus? rare that a soloist would sing with her own chorus.

  • Sparle psarklers eh?:) spar sparkelers sparklers...

  • Thank you so much for the music. Jo Stafford was great, even though she was before my time.

  • Pete Townshend's version is also beautiful...

  • Wonderful song!!

  • Much better than Sinatra. From Japan!

  • Wonderful! Anyone have Tony Martin's version of this classic?

  • tks for posting

  • @SuperGintamaFan

No, I think it was June Knight in 1935 (wiki) on broadway, but Artie Shaw did the instrumental in 1938.

I like this and the version from "The Rocketeer" by Melora Hardin. I like the slow smooth ones.

  • Are the band and the singer having a race.

  • Although Jo sang with the Pied Pipers, with Sinatra during the Tommy Dorsey recordings.Thanks.

  • prefer sinatra.but still good.

  • This is certainly the best version on youtube of this song. A million times better than some one named Crow. (God knows who she is). We all know who Jo is and love her talent.

  • Out all the recording of this song this the best and Jo at her best too i have this on the org UK 78rpm

  • Absolutely stunning.

  • I really love it when the sardine begin the beguine.

  • I see one thumbs down. What's there not to like. I think the only other singer to have a voice like Jo's was "Mary Ford". Jo probably had the most clear voice - ever. I love this song.

  • @Bob10123456 check out vice of Joni James clear as a bell

  • "....brings back the memory evergreen......".

  • julie london mops the floor with her fat ass!

  • Splendid, sheer joy to listen to this wonderful voice, thank you for making this available, Isabella.

  • What a beautiful version of this song!!

  • lovely :-)

  • HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY TAMBOURINE???

  • she is amazing, fantastic vocal

  • this is awesome, and an inspiration to my niece to sing at her recital on BARDAVJOHN 's youtube sight. Jo is a sultry mezzo, and out of sight! Meg sings it coloratura, and contemporary.

  • swings like it should. many other versions have no soul. this is just great

  • What cd is this on???? I've been searching for it for quite some time and can't find it. This is my favorite version of this song and would love to have it on my ipod!!!

  • This is one of my favorite versions of this song, the other is The Andrew Sisters(Chesterfield Broadcasts with Glenn Miller), their voices blended together so well, and we hear the same type blending here with Jo, but ina smoother more relaxed way. Beauty personified.

  • This is so cool. Singers in those days had a relaxed no frills delivery. This is the way music should be sung.

  • this is my favourite version!

  • Absolutely one of the best versions, excellent performed by Jo

  • A rich mezzo-soprano voice. She could put across a ballad like nobody else!

    5*****

  • A champagne cocktail of a ballad. And Ms. Stafford's vocal is like honey.

  • Just sublime.

  • JO STAFFORD WAS MAGNIFICENT THANKS

  • Always a big fan of the great Jo Stafford but no one has ever sung this song as brilliant as the Chick Henderson version from 1939. He put more feeling into it that any other singer has.

  • I have always thought that Jo Stafford was extremely under-rated as a singer. Perfect pitch and musicality. Never lets you down. Marvellous!!!

  • great song, immaculately performed by one of the best--thank you

  • she's pretty :)

  • I appreciate your comment

  • Nice one Olafdavila
