What a fascinating man! I couldn't care less for the politics as he was only doing what he thought was right at the time, so have an amazing respect for people like him. Wish I'd had him as a high school teacher instead of the dry, boring ones I got.
These guys are amazing. I had the priviliege to interview a Royal Artillery veteran who escaped the beaches of Dunkirk and served in Burma with the 11th east Africa Div this week and last week it was a Scots Guard who fought in Italy.
The most excited thing is(in my opinion)He is a VERY old man.He fought in WW2.Which is about 70 years ago.He still can recall those things And most amanzingly he can tell that in english. He knows words like motion, consciousness, can explain usingdifferent tongue than his mother tongue what happenend. I wish I would be able to do that if I'm ever to get that old. Btwy: I would like to know an american pilot from the european theatre speakin german or 1 from the pacific speakin english that well
@respinK Hi. Just wanting to say that I find it very respectfull the way that you comment this german pilots part of life. They had a very hard time back then beeing vastly outnumbered on all fronts, but having to do their duty anyway. It doesn´t really matter if they where in the party or not - in those days you just had to follow orders, or you would be shot because of treason to your country. You just had no choice, if you wanted to keep on living.
Thanks for posting your video. There were more who fought for the reason of country than for the criminal leader. Sad he passed, but he sounds to have lived a good life. Not all Germans were Nazi and this goes some way to prove that.
I always thought I was born about 38 yrs to late. To be a pilot of the second World War is a time that will never come again. The sheer numbers of airplanes from all sides going at it is mind boggling. And the planes are going almost the perfect speeds for incredible airmanship. Piston power refined to a science. Well done Herr Boost.
This man followed orders, just like his adversaries did. It's sad that we look back and wonder; why? Nothing good comes from war, it's stupid. We're very fortunate to have this brave man's testimony of the ordeals he endured. Thanks for this fantastic upload.
You are a hero in my book for having the presence of mind to do this. This is very important. His amazing story is on the record forever thanks to you.
Just amazing...its hard for us to realize that even though he was on the nazi side during the war, he is still human. I think some of the stories from the germans during the wars are some of the most interesting stories because they are so often looked over while they still hold such amazing encounters such as described here
Very cool, these old war stories are obviously getting few and far between as years pass. Loved the part about the P-51 pilot going past waving before he shot. Good for your friend that the P-51 pilot shot for the wings instead of the fuselage!
i really wonder if you put a German ex soldier with a soviet soldier, are they gonna start to argue after so many years LOL ???

I am glad he survived the war. You can feel the humanity in him.

Why is it that humans don't recognize how pointless war is until they are old?

Fascinating archive of a real life lived.
Many thanks for your foresight in recording his testimony.

They talk about the few but i would have thought it a lot more risky being a german fighter pilot and surviving the war.

The uniform in question is not SS, it is a panzer uniform from the Hermann Göring Division

Why a ss uniform in the back? He was a fighter pilot, the luftwaffe's uniform looks quite different.
