30 yrs ago when i was 24 i had a female budgie that would let me do anything to her.
she got to the point where she never wanted to be anywhere except on/with me.she would go outside with me and fly to the backyard shed and fly right back.had her for
10 yrs cried like a baby when she passed.have never had another like her.
I have had my budgie for about 3years and he still doesnt like me ! wont let anyone near him apart from when he wants tobe fed and, you still cant touch him, but h wont try to bite you ^.^
Dude, you are a great owner, I just love to see the way how you care for Your Baby Budgie. I really want to hold my budgie, but i am not sure how to train her and how to get her the way you keep her. Please reply, and I amd pleading you if you can teach me on how to train the budgie.. ( like in your hand... Taming themmm.... ETC. thanks man Hope you reply
my budgie is very... well, feisty. i can hold her but she will bite if i try to touch her much (except for her one special itchy spot) and she attacks me when i get her out of her cage. she can bite so hard. i know she likes me because she talks to me all the time and flies to me when shes out of her cage. its like she loves me and hates me at the same time. when i see other peoples tame budgies, it makes me wonder, what did i do wrong?
:( i wish mine would stop fighting with each other when i stick my hand into the cage :( ..... they are mean too im begging to hate budgies and giving up!! >:(
This was a hand-fed baby. It thought of us as its parents and trusted us. Nancy has a habit of turning the babies on their backs and petting their bellies to calm them down when they get upset and this one was simply used to it!
It's not quite albino. Albinos have a particular mutation. I'm pretty sure this one simply had very large patches of white. You can see some stripes on the head if you look closely.
omg this brings back sad memories for me.... i used to have an albino budgie named cupcake..... THE best bird EVER!!!! he was sooo sweet, and he used to "clip" my nails with my beak. HE WAS THE SWEETEST LITTLE BUDGIE EVER!!!!!!!!
*sniff......waaahhhh!!!!*
-RIP Cupcake
2009 Died while I was right there by his side.... playing video games.... looked up five minutes later, he was still and lifeless on the cage floor..... but he was cute, even when he was dead..... sniffle....
I trained my own birds I got from a pet shop. They're not quite this tame, but they fly to my hand when I hold it out for them, and they kiss my nose. (Which, considering I got them as teenagers who were afraid of humans, is pretty good if you ask me.)
Aww thats really cute! I have a white budgies which is the same as yours , her name is snowwhite, but i cant seem to train her! IM CRAVING TO HOLD HER! and ya...
Don't feed her for a day, and then when you do feed her, make her eat the seed out of your hand. After they've eaten their fill, replentish their bowls and wait a day, then start over.
Do this for like, a week, and then make the bird fly out of the cage to get to your hand & the food.
After a week of that, start making the birds get on your hand in the cage on the days where you're not making them eat out of your hands.
This worked really, really well for my pet-store birds.
It can be a long process. Are you willing to give the time?
Start by sitting near the cage and reading something out loud, so the bird can get used to you and your voice. Then offer the bird a treat throgh the wire. This should always be done in a quiet, peaceful place. Once the bird happily accepts a treat from you, try offering the treat with an open hand within the cage. Once the bird is eager to perch on your hand and take the treat, try slowly removing the bird from it's cage.
hey ive had mine for 8 years and i started taming him 3 days ago :)
haha
when they bite just pretend it didn't happen because it dosnt realy hurt and they will stop soon enough
because i cant explain this all in one comment watch this video i found should help a lot in this video its a cokatiel but its the same techniques that i used to have my budgie sitting on my shoulder in less than 3 days :D
Nancy is my wife, the human playing with the budgie! Determining the sex of a young budgie is often difficult. Ceres can be pink for boys and girls at that age.
The ceres of baby budgies can be purplish or whitish. It has to do with hormones, which can change after budgie puberty. Adult females have a brown cere. The males have a blue cere.
The darker the cere on a female shows her estrogen level and can indicate her place in the reproductive cycle. It can be tricky to pick up on as budgies have a really short cycle. For the boys, the brighter blue indicates more testosterone. It doesn't fluctuate, except for dietary influences.
@KrispyApplez actually when males are young their ceres are pink, trust me, i have a male budgie and when he was young his cere was pink and then changed into purplish-blue when he got older. and my female budgie, when she was young her cere was white and now it's brownish-tan.
Even 2 budgies are not very loud. You will be able to hear the chirping but if you live in an appartment and have nighbors they will not be able to hear them. The stop chirpping when it gets dark so just cover their cage with a blanket at sunset.
Budgies are on the lower end of the noise scale when compared to cockatoos. You can have a dozen budgies and so long as there isn't too much light, they will make far less noise than a single dog at night.
Ok, my 2 baby budgies are super tame now!! they know lots of tricks and love me and my family. They know this kissy sound and it's so cute lol!! the first week i got them they knew step up command, 5 stars ***
its so cute how do you get a budgie so tame?wow good job on taming it:)i have 2 baby budgies i had them for 2 weeks now there getting used to stepping up on my finger.
Germs of course. But goddammit. If it wasn't for the fact that it would kill them and be cruel, and I would never harm an animal, I'd either want to eat one or squeeze one *O* (Just a little bit )
Your budgie is a parrot. Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot is a great reference for taming your budgie. The basic technique is to get your budgie to not see you as a threat, but as a source of rewards. Millet should only be given to the budgie when you are there, and you work toward having the budgie stand on you when it gets the millet. Budgies also love celery, btw.
Managed to get one of my birds to do that once. He ended up falling asleep in my hand. HAven't gotten him to do that in a while. this was back when he was younger though.
walk past the cage several times without som1 else walking past.look for the bird with white feathers or so and still young and smaller then the others. the one that flys or stands close to you when you stop will make a perfect choice!
It's too bad almost all the breeders flight breed, because I want another but I won't purchase a baby that will die after a few years. Breeding like that just produces unhealthy babies!
If only breeders would breed them a pair to a cage like your supposed to. *Deep Sigh* If I could have a baby whose parents were paired together because they were healthy and {s}he was raised in a large flight cage with he{r} two parents I would be so happy.
Makes me miss my little one. We lost him last year, and I held him as he passed. After that heartwrenching experience I just cannot have another budgie in the house.
I've tamed many budgies over the years. It's very easy for me.
That last little guy though he was a heart-stealer! Gosh, I loved him. He gave kisses on command. He said all sorts of things:
YOu mean that you could tame thtem like the one on the vidoe? how do you do it?
is it necassary to have they're wings cliped off because by the sound of getting them clipped off sounds terrible. They say it doesn't hurt them but it would be like you getting your arms chopped off :P
i used to own budgies when i was very young, i never clipped ther wings we used to lock all the doors and windows and give them some extra room in the bathroom :P, they would still trust me and sit on my hand or something.
E-mail me if you want to know the whole taming process. It's too long to write on here. The part I put is the most essential rule. I'll add the part on how to pick your baby on here, but the rest is just way too long.
How To Pick Your Baby :: When you walk up to the cage the birds will scatter that is almost normal. Look for a young baby. Choose the baby that comes over to you, and looks interested in you, even when your hand is near the cage. Pick the one that is the calmest baby!
Wing trimming is like clipping your fingernails. If you cut down to the quick on a human it would hurt, yes? If you clip a birds wings wrong it will hurt.
Note: A bird MUST have the feathers fully grown in Before you trim, or else the blood supply is Not cut off.
A budgie/ parakeet is a very Strong flyer. Can you keep an unclipped bird tame? Yes, but to tame you Must clip first. I wish I had a camera to record the process to show you. It's easier than explaining...
To Tame A Budgie: First you need a baby bird that is newly weaned. A bird under 3 months has "bars" of dark feathers in zebra-like stripes above it's cere (nose). Albino (pure white w/ red eyes) are impossible to age. Lutino (yellow w/ red eyes) are also extremly difficult, as are heavy Pieds. Pied have white feathers in the blue based birds or yellow in the green.
Now that is one chilled out budgie! My longest living bird (Charlie) was the most tame overall but would never let me handle him like that.. The other birds were ok w/that but not him which was strange as I could stroke his chest, he'd run on my hands - everything but handling. In fact he used to let me kiss him (I say!) and 'groom' him - that was so sweet, he would always have his 'hair' messed up and have a put-out expression on his face but his mate would tidy him up afterwards! :) Nice vid!
I had my budgie Chippy for 16 years and he just recently passed away.. But he was the most beautiful bird. I could do absolutely ANYTHING with him. It didnt take long to tame him up either, all it takes is patience and time. ;]
its good to get your birds wings cliped so they cant fly and then work on taming them but it takes alote of work to tame them probley a week or 2 but since u have had them for that long then it will take awhile
Don't clip them! That is cruel! Start slowly by putting your hand in the cage, and getting him used to you. Allow him to jump onto your hand and keep your hand steady, so that he trusts you. Then maybe he will start to go on your finger like a perch. When he really feels comfortable, he will come with your hand out the cage. It takes time and lots of patience!
should i like take these two pieces of wood out my parakeets usually stand on and should i like get another cage cause sometimes they keep fighting when they get close to each other =(...
I would - seperate the buggers if they can't get along, let them talk to each other, keep them close by but yes, have a seperate cage.. Sometimes they do fight sadly but absense makes the heart grow fonder - let them interact when outside the cage every now and then and they may get along eventually!
thats not crule it only prevents the bird from flying away !!! but doing the way you do it could take a very long time take them to the bathroom in your house and leave the tap water running and then slowly let him out of his cage a bird will insticly take a bath when he hears running water and then pet him and hold him tou your chest and bet him lightly with this methoud it should take al least a week !!
However, learning to fly pretty much erases any chance of them flying into things....mine is out all the time and I don't remember when she last flew into something. After a couple of times, she got the point, just like baby birds. They certainly don't take off and and deliver perfect results! It's also a lot of fun if they can fly! :-D
I guess there are pros and cons of each. My parakeets wings are not clipped. But one, time he got startled and flew and hit the ceiling fan when it was on. Somehow he was unharmed and just got up and flew away to the bathroom (he feels very safe there). We were very fortunate he was okay.
Lol, he's so cute. I can almost do this with my budgie - she'll let go with one foot and close her eyes, but I've only gotten her to let go of her other foot once.
my mom bought me 4 budgie and i cant tame them except for one but when i almost got him out of the cage with my finger the others start yelling and he flew off help me
You need to separate the budgies into two cages, with the tamest one by itself for a bit. You can work with it in a different room to get it to be tamer! The other budgies won't bother it that way.
Put the cages near each other when you're not home and paying attention to the birds, though.
I don't know how much the bird is scratching or if it's really sneezing or just imitating human beings sneezing.
A visit to an avian vet would be the best thing, to make sure your bird isn't sick. I know it can be expensive, and the bird might not be sick, but it really is the safest thing to do.
A budgie breeder near you might be able to tell you if the bird is sick, too. Don't take the bird to their house!
take him out of the nest when it is at least two weeks old and then handfeed it. just be sure you know how to do it so that accidental asphyxiation will not happen.
Yeah,if i cut my birds wings it would be tame as well. Cruel

my version of picking a budgie:
---------------------------------------------------------
walk past the cage several times without som1 else walking past.look for the bird with white feathers or so and still young and smaller then the others. the one that flys or stands close to you when you stop will make a perfect choice!

what a sweet, divine, lovely budgie.

Alas nobody breeds like they're supposed to!

I love you.
It's cheap; like the budgie.
Give us a kiss.
Cheeky little bugger!
Where's the baby?
I'm Lex Luthor!
He was so sweet.

YOu mean that you could tame thtem like the one on the vidoe? how do you do it?
is it necassary to have they're wings cliped off because by the sound of getting them clipped off sounds terrible. They say it doesn't hurt them but it would be like you getting your arms chopped off :P
jav109 3 years ago
i used to own budgies when i was very young, i never clipped ther wings we used to lock all the doors and windows and give them some extra room in the bathroom :P, they would still trust me and sit on my hand or something.

10thousand1blossums6 3 years ago 2
Yes, my Lex was just as tame as this bird.

I got my budgie 3 weeks ago and now he is 11 weeks old and he already sits on our shoulder and stuff. Im trying to get him used to being held

:) Nice vid!
andy7666 3 years ago
My budgie lets me do that and I can sometimes groom him on his back :)

A hand-fed bird that gets a lot of time with the owner will do that.

my budgies like that too for a whole 10 seconds and then it'll attack my fingers

Aww.
I had my budgie Chippy for 16 years and he just recently passed away.. But he was the most beautiful bird. I could do absolutely ANYTHING with him. It didnt take long to tame him up either, all it takes is patience and time. ;]

How do you tame your budgie? I have had mine since december and he is not tame at all!! I cant even take him out of the cage!!!
XShadowlegendX 3 years ago
its good to get your birds wings cliped so they cant fly and then work on taming them but it takes alote of work to tame them probley a week or 2 but since u have had them for that long then it will take awhile
animalCOP76 3 years ago
Don't clip them! That is cruel! Start slowly by putting your hand in the cage, and getting him used to you. Allow him to jump onto your hand and keep your hand steady, so that he trusts you. Then maybe he will start to go on your finger like a perch. When he really feels comfortable, he will come with your hand out the cage. It takes time and lots of patience!
happydaisy72 3 years ago
should i like take these two pieces of wood out my parakeets usually stand on and should i like get another cage cause sometimes they keep fighting when they get close to each other =(...
xehanort66 3 years ago
I would - seperate the buggers if they can't get along, let them talk to each other, keep them close by but yes, have a seperate cage.. Sometimes they do fight sadly but absense makes the heart grow fonder - let them interact when outside the cage every now and then and they may get along eventually!
andy7666 3 years ago
Thanks =D
xehanort66 3 years ago
thats not crule it only prevents the bird from flying away !!! but doing the way you do it could take a very long time take them to the bathroom in your house and leave the tap water running and then slowly let him out of his cage a bird will insticly take a bath when he hears running water and then pet him and hold him tou your chest and bet him lightly with this methoud it should take al least a week !!
animalCOP76 3 years ago
Clipping their wings is cruel. You just have to make sure you don't leave any doors open or windows open that don't have screens.
blueblob4 3 years ago
it would provent the bird from flying into things and hurting him self so no its not crule..
animalCOP76 3 years ago
Okay, you've got a point.
blueblob4 3 years ago
However, learning to fly pretty much erases any chance of them flying into things....mine is out all the time and I don't remember when she last flew into something. After a couple of times, she got the point, just like baby birds. They certainly don't take off and and deliver perfect results! It's also a lot of fun if they can fly! :-D
ElyshaFields 3 years ago
I guess there are pros and cons of each. My parakeets wings are not clipped. But one, time he got startled and flew and hit the ceiling fan when it was on. Somehow he was unharmed and just got up and flew away to the bathroom (he feels very safe there). We were very fortunate he was okay.
blueblob4 3 years ago
Lol, he's so cute. I can almost do this with my budgie - she'll let go with one foot and close her eyes, but I've only gotten her to let go of her other foot once.
Barcode711 3 years ago
my mom bought me 4 budgie and i cant tame them except for one but when i almost got him out of the cage with my finger the others start yelling and he flew off help me
rasenganenergyball 3 years ago
You need to separate the budgies into two cages, with the tamest one by itself for a bit. You can work with it in a different room to get it to be tamer! The other budgies won't bother it that way.
Put the cages near each other when you're not home and paying attention to the birds, though.
unspace 3 years ago
thank you it works but there is still something im wooried about . my bird is scratching itself alot and he sneazes
do you think he is sick
rasenganenergyball 3 years ago
I don't know how much the bird is scratching or if it's really sneezing or just imitating human beings sneezing.
A visit to an avian vet would be the best thing, to make sure your bird isn't sick. I know it can be expensive, and the bird might not be sick, but it really is the safest thing to do.
A budgie breeder near you might be able to tell you if the bird is sick, too. Don't take the bird to their house!
I wish I could help you more.

megacoolboy1 3 years ago
how do u tame it?
yellownapeamazon2 4 years ago
take him out of the nest when it is at least two weeks old and then handfeed it. just be sure you know how to do it so that accidental asphyxiation will not happen.

how cute, i like how the budgie is resting on your hand!
