When Yankee Stadium and CitiField were in the planning stages, the economy was is great shape. No one could forsee the economy turning as bad as it did. The reason the stadium was knocked down was Michael Bloomberg and his deputy mayors. He wanted the stadium gone and it is all part of his plan to make the Bronx the premier borough in New York, all while getting richer. Sad to see this happen for so many reasons. In the end, NYC could care less. They never did and never will.
Hate the yankess but its sad when a piece of baseball history is destroyed. I wish someone could have at least saved gate 2 or listed it in the registry of historic places so they couldnt mess with it. Its a shame when corporate America can destroy something so sacred to people
Gate 2 was the ONLY authentic section of the stadium from 1928. It was not modified during the 74-75 renovation. This was the one piece that was not altered. The City blew it and destroyed history!
That really sucks they couldn't save Gate 2, and would doing so have really been too much to ask? What they're doing to Old Yankee Stadium is exactly what Barack Obama (Bin Laden) is currently doing to our now sorry country!
did you see the ominous clouds above while the heinous demolition of one of america's great monuments occurred? Possibly portends bad things for the franchise after they knocked down the House that Ruth built. This is the first year they will play after having demolished Ruth's "House"....the yankees may be cursed for doing this. I hope not, of course.

why do a lot of people think that the yankees are synonymous with the USA? most of the USA can care less.

@gcastro44
That is because most of the USA is not that bright, proven over and over again.

@ beatlebrian: The agreement was that the stadium would be razed to provide parkland. I'd rather have that than another housing project...

I would like to know what the hell NYC was thinking after what has happened to Ebbetts Field and The Polo Grounds?
